181 If You Think I’m Not Energetic, I Can Work Harder

Sun Mingtao put his arm around Li Zexuan’s shoulder. “Superstar, are you joking?”

“Then you can stay here and keep yourself occupied. I seriously have to go and pack my things.” Li Zexuan pushed away his friend’s hand and walked to the living room.

Sun Mingtao was stunned at first. “Are you chasing me away?” he asked in anger. “When Lu Wenqian returned to school, she told me that she felt something was wrong with you. Are you blaming me for bringing her here?”

Li Zexuan pursed his lips. Sun Mingtao knew very well that he wanted nothing to do with Lu Wenqian but he still brought her here. Li Zexuan’s doubts and dislike were getting stronger.

“You know that Uncle Lu knows both your father and mine. Xuanxuan, when he came back last month, I overheard my dad talking to him. He was stressed and hiding in his study. He was asking Uncle Lu for help. Wenqian put in a good word for my dad. The three of us are very close so we should make plans for the summer break. Besides, who else is more suitable for you than Wenqian in the whole of Yun City?” Sun Mingtao was really on Lu Wenqian’s side because he was very grateful.

The more Li Zexuan heard about this, the more his rage increased. “I thought we were friends, but it seems you guys have different interests. I am not interested in anything of that sort.”

Sun Mingtao knew that Li Zexuan didn’t care about the Li family’s property at all. He was a big star who didn’t lack for money. But Sun Mingtao was different. He had an older brother. Since junior high, his mother had been telling him that if he didn’t study hard, his brother would inherit the Sun family’s company.

Probably because he had been nagged for a long time, Sun Mingtao was very concerned about the family property even though he was only in his first year of high school.

“You’re my friend, and so is Wenqian. Wenqian is so good to you. She is always looking out for you.” Sun Mingtao was willing to start a fight with his best friend for the sake of Lu Wenqian.

“Always going on about Lu Wenqian! If she matters to you that much, just hang out together. Why do you always have to drag me along? I am very busy. I’ll see you when school starts.” Li Zexuan was really getting annoyed at Sun Mingtao for always mentioning her whenever he wanted him to do something.

“Also, if she is so good to me and looks out for me, maybe she could respect my privacy when I have made it clear that I am not interested.” Li Zexuan really didn’t want to be polite anymore.

In the end, Sun Mingtao left Li Zexuan’s house in anger and threatened to cut all ties with him. When Auntie Huang brought the green bean soup, Sun Mingtao was already gone.

Li Zexuan told Auntie Huang to lock the door behind her as he entered his living room. The children went to their respective rooms to pack their luggage.

At noon, Li Yanchen found Lin Wan by the cornfield at the foot of Mount Qiping. He noticed that Lin Wan and Yang Ruoxi’s eyes were reddish. He understood that they had been crying for a long time.

When Yang Ruoxi saw Li Yanchen approach, she smiled brightly. She whispered in Lin Wan’s ears, “Your husband isn’t bad.”

Lin Wan opened her arms wide and hugged Li Yanchen and Yang Ruoxi on each side.

“Thank you for taking care of my best friend in the world,” said Yang Ruoxi. “We are so close that we even wear the same pajamas.”

“You don’t even like to share my pajamas,” said Li Yanchen pretending to be miffed.

“Apart from wearing the same clothes, we also eat the same bowl of noodles,” Yang Ruoxi added.

Li Yanchen pulled his hand away. “Really?” He pretended to be offended.

Lin Wan gestured for the man to lower his head. She whispered into his ear, “I have never shared a bed with Yang Ruoxi.”

He was happy as though he had found a powerful weapon that could work in his favor to defeat the opponent. “Lin Wan and I share the same bed every day.”

Lin Wan and Yang Ruoxi were stunned. “Wanwan, you said your husband is introverted. He isn’t introverted at all.”

Yang Ruoxi asked Lin Wan if she was happy. Lin Wan had praised Li Yanchen for a full half an hour. She mostly talked about how calm and caring he was.

“Wanwan, Yang Ruoxi is indeed very noisy.” Li Yanchen didn’t want to be outdone either.

“Wanwan, what did you say about me?” Yang Ruoxi pretended to be offended.

It turned out that best friends and husbands didn’t really take well to each other’s faults.

“You’re both good in your own ways.” Lin Wan assured them.

“Mr. Li, let’s have a chat.” Yang Ruoxi let go of Lin Wan’s hand.

Lin Wan was left behind as Yang Ruoxi and Li Yanchen quickened their pace to talk with each other. Lin Wan was baffled.

After a while, they slowed down until Lin Wan caught up with them. They held their hands from each side.

“Wanwan, I feel that Mr. Li is a decent man.”

Li Yanchen nodded his head happily. “Wanwan, I am glad you have someone to protect you. I don’t have to worry if I am not around.”

Li Yanchen and Yang Ruoxi thanked each other for protecting the person they both treasured most.

Lin Wan suddenly started crying. “Should I really have let you two meet? You guys won’t let me down by cheating on me, right?”

Yang Ruoxi hugged Lin Wan’s waist. “Lin Wan, you ungrateful wretch. Don’t worry. I don’t like Uncles.”

Li Yanchen was speechless. “He retorted, “I am not an Uncle!”

“I like young, fresh meat in their twenties. Is that enough?”

“Xixi likes her partners young.” In her original world, Yang Ruoxi’s boyfriends were all younger than the previous one.

Hearing Lin Wan’s words, Li Yanchen was even more depressed. Were they implying he was old?

“Wanwan, I’m not that old either. I’m only in my thirties. If you think I’m not energetic, I can work harder,” he teased.

Lin Wan shook her head in embarrassment.

“Wanwan has been drinking goji berries since she was twenty-three.”

Lin Wan had only said it as a joke. Why were they taking it very seriously?

“You’re both right. I was wrong. Forgive me. Now, can we go?” Lin Wan begged.

In the cemetery’s duty room, Uncle Yang wiped the chairs and tables clean.

“Wanwan, let’s go pack some food and have lunch here. I am home for a few months and I want to spend time with Dad, but I also want to spend more time with you.” Yang Ruoxi looked at Lin Wan with anticipation.

“Alright, Yanchen. Let’s head to the old residence after we’re done eating. I’ll accompany Xixi to pack some food.” Lin Wan agreed without hesitation.

There weren’t many restaurants at the foot of Mount Qiping. Most of them were noodle shops. Yang Ruoxi packed some noodles and toppings. The noodles were very similar to the ones on the holy mountain in her original world.

For a moment, Yang Ruoxi felt that she and Lin Wan had returned to their own world.

Lin Wan carried a bag in each hand and walked briskly. Yang Ruoxi promised Lin Wan that she would return to China in a year, and they would have dinner together every three to five days.

They were looking forward to the life they would have a year later here. The children would be in school, Li Yanchen would be on business trips, and Yang Ruoxi would find an easy job in Yun City. During their breaks, she would drag Lin Wan out to shop.

Lin Wan wanted to introduce Xia Mo to Yang Ruoxi and their team would grow from two to four.

Yang Ruoxi was riding her father’s bicycle, facing the sun with a bright smile. Behind her, Lin Wan raised her chin and squinted her eyes, enjoying the beauty of this moment.

...

After lunch, Lin Wan invited Yang Ruoxi to the Lin family’s old residence with her, and Li Yanchen’s jealousy was triggered once again.

He didn’t know that Lin Wan and Yang Ruoxi weren’t just best friends, they had moments they shared from another world they lived in. They wanted to figure out their relationship between this world and the other.

Li Yanchen followed behind, feeling like a third wheel.
