This Lich Requests More Remuneration-Chapter 132 - 123 This Lich Is Somewhat Special
Chapter 132: Chapter 123 This Lich Is Somewhat Special
Chapter 132 -123 This Lich Is Somewhat Special
Katherine arrived at Amberser’s castle, assuming she would see groups of skeletons and zombies, as well as cabinets full of human organs.
After all, it seemed only natural for a Lich to do so.
However, to Katherine’s surprise, the castle was austere but unexpectedly clean.
She hardly saw any hideous Undead, but instead, was greeted by a cute-looking human girl. Not an Undead in human form, a real, live human.
Although the human girl zoned out for quite some time upon seeing her, Katherine still appreciated the thoughtfulness Amberser displayed in arranging for the Elves.
At least, the Lich Lord had shown the Elves enough respect.
Isabel snapped out of her daze with Katherine’s reminder and, following Amberser’s instructions, showed the Elves to their rooms in the castle for rest. She murmured as she closed the door, “Could there be such beautiful Elves in this world?”
Isabel’s eyes only had Katherine, to the point where she had no recollection of what the other Elves looked like.
The wounded Elves were being treated, and without the disturbance of Demons, the Elf Tribe had no pressure in terms of healing. Drinking the healing Magic Potions and receiving a few healing spells later, the grievously injured became lightly injured, and those with minor injuries were nearly restored.
Yet Katherine noticed that the consumption of these healing Magic Potions was a bit too high.
Even though the wounded had already recovered, they couldn’t help but want to drink more, as if that would make them feel even better.
Katherine understood deep down that this was a precursor sign of potion addiction.
A growing craving for magic, to the point where even toxic magical materials would be dared to be consumed.
The Elf Tribe had strictly limited the export of materials precisely to be able to sustain themselves for a few more years when the addiction outbreak occurred.
But now, it seemed the outbreak was progressing faster than Katherine had anticipated, and the Elf Tribe might start to suffer from mass addiction before the war even ended.
With this thought, Katherine became even more worried.
To keep the other Elves from noticing her unease, Katherine had to find an excuse to leave the room.
Isabel, a diligent servant, noticed Katherine walking out alone and quickly approached to check on her.
Isabel said with a touch of nervousness, “Your Majesty, is there anything you need? Please command me.”
The girl kept her head down, not daring to look up at the Elf Queen, lest she gets lost in her beauty again.
Katherine chuckled lightly and said to Isabel, “I just want to walk around a bit. Perfect, why don’t you show me around this castle? It’s my first time seeing a Lich’s home.”
Isabel really wanted to say that there wasn’t much to see in the castle, with more than half of the rooms being laboratories and libraries, and the rest being empty, not even a bug or mouse in sight.
But Katherine had already started walking out, so Isabel could only hurry to follow.
“This is the master’s laboratory, mainly for concocting Magic Potions that need distillation. The room next door is specifically for centrifugal extraction… Oh, this is the library, this is the Undead magic bookshelf, the shelves for other magical subjects are in another library, and there’s also a place just for research papers…”
As they passed each place, Isabel tried her best to introduce them enthusiastically to Katherine.
Katherine wasn’t originally focused on the tour; she just needed to walk around to distract herself, but the more she listened, the more it seemed odd.
Katherine inquired, “This Master Ultraman doesn’t seem much like a Lich. As I understand it, a Lich’s Life Casket requires a large number of souls to maintain. Yet this castle doesn’t keep a large number of human slaves for his experiments. How does he obtain his materials?”
A Lich, as a monster of the evil alignment, isn’t disliked simply because of discrimination by other races; their habits of life are also a significant reason.
Vampires need to feed on living blood, and the blood of sapient beings like Elves and humans is considered even better, with the virgin blood of such races being the most valuable luxury for them.
But Amberser’s castle was very clean, and even though one could occasionally see some corpse materials in the laboratory, a careful look revealed they were from various animals, with human-shaped bones being in the minority.
Could this be an intentional deception?
But that would be pointless. If not for the Elves’ sudden attack, they wouldn’t have brought the wounded to this castle to rest, so why would the Lich go to such great lengths to put on a show?
Katherine became more curious about this Lich, from his illusory appearance to his terrifying spell casting ability, and this unusual castle… Was this Lich different from other Undead, or did she know too little about Undead?
Upon hearing Katherine’s question, Isabel explained, “The master can create a substance similar to a Soul in many ways, which can substitute for the Soul when necessary.”
This wasn’t a secret at all, for anyone who had dealt with him knew of this ability. Amberser himself had considered advertising the Pseudo-Soul in Alchemy City, but eventually gave up due to the overwhelming cheapness of human serfdom, which made his product uncompetitive in the market.
“Legendary Grace’s power?” Katherine asked with a bit of surprise.
Isabel nodded and said, “Yes, the master can synthesize Pseudo-Souls with some simple magical materials. He usually uses these blank souls for experiments and has even tried to create new life with this ability.”
Katherine was hearing about such an obscure ability for the first time, one that could even create new life. Was this still a Lich?
She was skeptical, but just as she rounded a corner, Katherine saw several cute little creatures hopping about in the hall.
The two largest were of a silvery-white hue, looking like plump mercury, with golden threads on their surfaces marking contours resembling eyes and mouths, appearing exceedingly adorable.
Next to one of the mercury droplets were several tiny, sparkling clusters that seemed to be composed of crystal shards. Leading the others, which looked like they were made of sand and were a bit less presentable in appearance, was another mercury droplet, but these moved more lively.
It appeared that the two mercury clusters were commanders, directing the crystal and gravel clusters to arrange themselves and battle against each other.
At first glance, it looked like simple collisions, but upon closer observation, one could detect a significant level of skill in the clusters’ movements, hinting at some unique combat techniques at play.
The small clusters clashed together, mingling into one another.
It all looked not the least bit stimulating; instead, there was something quite endearing about it.
As soon as Katherine and Isabel were noticed by the clusters that were previously engaged in their mock combat, their movements halted abruptly. Then they bounced over to Katherine, encircling her and hopping around cheerfully.
Isabel was quite envious. She interacted with these little beings sometimes, but the creatures created by the Lich Lord were usually indifferent towards her. She hadn’t expected them to be so eager to fawn over Katherine upon just meeting her.
Even these little ones couldn’t resist the charm of the Elf Queen.
After observing them closely, Katherine exclaimed in surprise, “These are… elemental creatures? No, that’s not right, they feel more like undead… still not right.”

Katherine, as the Elf Queen, had seen many wondrous creatures, from heavenly beings to visitors from other planes, and all manner of bizarre things, yet she couldn’t quite identify what these clusters were.
The High Elves are highly sensitive to magic, and Katherine could distinctly discern the dark magic power within those crystal and gravel clusters. This was a typical undead trait; however, their bodies were elemental, bearing no resemblance to corpses whatsoever.
Could it be that the Lich had mastered a technique to turn the corpses of elemental beings into undead?
The more Katherine thought about it, the less she understood. This Lich seemed different from anything she’d ever known.
“He is quite the exceptional Lich; I’ve never seen such interesting beings. He must be a very learned scholar,” she mused.
Isabel agreed heartily, “Although the Lord is an undead, he is the smartest and most knowledgeable person I have ever met. Moreover, he is incredibly kind towards the living. He has sheltered many human refugees, allowing them to live on his land—a much better life than serfs elsewhere could ever hope for.”
Isabel meant every word she said; Amberser had been far superior to her previous Lord.
The more Katherine heard, the more she wondered if such a kind-hearted Lich could really exist.
Although she was skeptical about the truth of Isabel’s words, Katherine nonetheless had a good impression of Amberser.
After walking around the castle with Isabel for a while, Katherine suddenly asked, “By the way, do you know where the jail… where the prisoners are held in this castle?”
“Prisoners? Oh, I see, Your Majesty wishes to visit your kin, right?” Isabel responded.
Katherine hadn’t expected Isabel to be so forthright. Indeed, she wanted to see Cicero and the other captives—and not because she planned to stealthily whisk them away while Amberser was absent, although she at least wanted to ensure their safety. Of course, she would take the opportunity to rescue them if it presented itself.
After all, as the Elf Queen, it was natural for Katherine to try to free her people from an enemy Lich who had brought her to his home.
To Katherine’s surprise, Isabel was quite blunt. If the girl was unwilling, Katherine would have to knock her out and search on her own.
Yet to Katherine’s astonishment, Isabel said, “Very well, please follow me.”
Katherine was half-doubtful. Was this young girl really not afraid of her staging a jailbreak?
Isabel was but a mere human, and Katherine would hardly need to exert much effort to render her unconscious with a flick of her finger.
Despite her suspicions, Isabel was already leading the way, so Katherine had no choice but to follow.
What Katherine didn’t know was Isabel’s reasoning—of course, Isabel wouldn’t lead her to the elves on her own initiative. All of this was at the command of Amberser. The Lich Lord had returned home unexpectedly the previous night, not only instructing her to receive the envoy from the Elf Tribe but also telling her, “If the Elf Queen wants to see the prisoners, just take her to them.”
Therefore, without any detour, Isabel led Katherine straight to the dungeon within the castle, where they encountered Cicero and the other long-captured Dusk Guards.
Cicero was the first to spot Katherine, and he exclaimed in shock, “Your Majesty?! What are you doing here?!”
“I’ve come to rescue you. Cicero, are you…” Katherine was about to ask if they had been mistreated when she noticed the strange patterns of energy on their chests.
Seeing where Katherine’s gaze had fallen, Cicero quickly explained, “These are seals placed by the Lich, completely locking our magic inside and preventing any chance of escape.”
After a careful observation, Katherine said in astonishment, “No, this is more than just a seal. This magical construct also completely isolates…”
Katherine did not finish her sentence.
The elves before her, except for Cicero, were all enveloped by the magical construct, an unusual anti-magic space, that cut off the Legendary Power shared with them by Katherine.
Not even an Anti-Magic Field could block Katherine’s “Selfless Share,” yet this small magic seal had accomplished it, and Katherine couldn’t understand the magical construct at all.
“If this seal could be applied to all Elves suffering from mana addiction, wouldn’t that mean they could be saved?”
Katherine felt her heart race at an unimaginable speed, as if it was about to leap out of her chest.
Saving the prisoners was no longer the priority—this magical seal was the key.
The Elf Tribe might be saved!
