This Lich Requests More Remuneration-Chapter 217 - 198 Entering the Dreamland

Chapter 217 -198: Entering the Dreamland
The Druids’ banquet was quite nice, the food prepared was much to Katherine’s liking.
But even the best of banquets must end, and Brandir ultimately failed to find the opportunity to chat with Katherine, left only to watch the goddess of his heart return to that exquisite Treehouse Castle.
Once back in her room, Katherine couldn’t wait to get out the gift Amberser had given her.
A hefty little wooden box, wrapped up quite tightly.
Upon opening the box, she saw an exquisite hourglass inside, along with a letter written in cipher.
Katherine hastily took out the latest issue of “Legendary Spells” from her little bag, then began to translate the ciphered letter by comparing each symbol.
After translating, Katherine was shocked by the content of the letter.
She hadn’t expected that inside this Divine Artifact was hidden the Heroic Spirit of that Saint King, only that Arthur Laine was now extremely weak and had entered a state of slumber.
With both hands, Katherine reverently placed the hourglass on the table, then said to Naomi, “This is the Time Dragon’s Divine Artifact. I’m entrusting its safekeeping to you. He’s told you to familiarize yourself with it quickly; you might be able to find the Time Dragon’s essence within it and achieve your transformation.”
Naomi quickly grasped the hourglass and started to study it in detail.
This was just the first item mentioned in Amberser’s letter; there was another even more crucial and dangerous task.
Tonight at midnight, Katherine needed to cause a major commotion to attract the Druids’ attention.
As for why, Amberser didn’t make it clear in the letter, only telling Katherine to make as much noise as possible—the bigger, the better.
This kind of mischief was certainly not her forte, she needed to grab the Druids’ attention without causing too much trouble, to avoid bringing trouble to the Elf Tribe—this was not an easy feat.
Complaining, Katherine said, “What a nuisance, just having to draw the Druids’ attention, why not simply tell me how to do it? Now I have to come up with a plan myself.”
Now, with some time before midnight, all Katherine could do was to try to recall the days spent with Amberser and see how the Lich usually operated.
Time was rapidly passing, and Amberser was waiting in his room for midnight to come.
Whether or not Katherine succeeded, he was not planning to waste any more time.
However, to Amberser’s surprise, it wasn’t even midnight yet when a terrifying dragon’s roar came from afar.
A dragon on the continent?
No, that was a Druid transformed into a dragon.
A single dragon’s roar shook the entire Emerald Dream Forest. Even the remote tribe where Amberser was located was startled.
Once again, Saress, flushed and disheveled, rushed out of his home, but this time it was nobody’s fault. He needed to immediately calm the tribe’s emotions and also arrange for people to keep an eye on the envoys from the Fury Tide Kingdom.
Nobody knew what had happened, but it was certainly significant. Nobody knew whether it had anything to do with those envoys from the Fury Tide Kingdom, but putting them under watch was definitely the right move.
Waiting for this moment, Amberser directly walked out of his room to find Saress.
“What’s this dragon’s roar about, has Laine attacked?” Amberser asked with a pretense of panic.
Of course, Saress did not know and could only offer words of comfort, “There’s no need to worry. With the Dreamweave Barrier, Laine can’t possibly attack us. Perhaps there has been an accident, but I trust that the Grand Druids can handle it. You don’t need to be nervous, just stay in your room and wait, we will ensure your safety.”
Amberser said anxiously, “I hope you do as you say, and by the way, send a Druid to my room for protection. Someone skilled, they must ensure my safety.”
Saress looked at Amberser with some disdain—was this man really a Child of the Storm? Such a coward. Wasn’t he afraid that the Lord of the Storm would strike him down with lightning?
But this worked out well; Saress was worried about Amberser wandering around. It was better if he wanted to be watched.
Saress chose a young Druid from the tribe to “protect” Amberser and followed him directly into his room.
As soon as he entered, Amberser locked the door behind him.
The young Druid glanced at Amberser contemptuously for his cowardice, indeed worthy of disdain.
But Amberser, as if oblivious to the other’s scorn, asked with a grin, “Young man, what is your name?”
The young Druid answered, “My name is Talind.”
Amberser probed, “Elder Saress mentioned that only the most talented among you Druids are qualified to enter the Natural Dreamscape. Do you have that qualification? I wouldn’t want anything to happen later and you be unable to cope on your own.”
Holding his head high with confidence, Talind replied, “Of course I’m qualified. I am the strongest Druid in the tribe.”
“That’s good to hear, good to hear…” Amberser rambled on, and then suddenly Talind felt his head spin as if he had had too much to drink.
Talind struggled to shake off this strange dizziness, but before he could cast a spell to dispel the feeling, the dizziness disappeared, and there stood Amberser in front of him as if nothing had happened.
Amberser even asked with concern, “Young man, what’s wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell? Do you want someone else to protect me instead? Can you really handle this?”
Stung by Amberser’s distrusting gaze, Talind said excitedly, “There’s nothing wrong, you just relax.”
“Forget it, seeing how unreliable you look, you’d better just stand guard outside.” Amberser drove Talind out of the room.
Talind could only curse under his breath at the doorway, not realizing that in the time it took for his brief exchanges and comings and goings, more than ten minutes had already passed.
Inside the room, Amberser revealed a smile. Just now, his young Druid had cast an enchantment spell.
Druids have strong perception and are not weak in resisting mind-control spells, but to Amberser, this was irrelevant. With the enhancement of the Golden Throne, Talind could only obediently be controlled.
The reason for having Katherine create a commotion was to make Saress nervous as a frightened bird, to ensure that a Druid eligible for the Dream Entering Ceremony would be alone with him in the room.
In Saress’s eyes, Amberser, with the bracelet on, was incapable of casting any spells and should pose no threat.
And the Oak Ring that Katherine had brought him perfectly solved that issue. Amberser hypnotized Talind, extracted the prayer of the Dream Entering Ceremony from his lips, and then erased that piece of memory by altering his soul.
Poor Talind was still unaware that he was being toyed with by Amberser.
Immediately after, Amberser summoned a tiny Alien Skeleton, an Undead made from the bones of a mouse.
He placed the bracelet that shielded the Dreamweave Barrier on the mouse Skeleton to keep it awake, and then gave it an order.
In a moment, he would take off the Oak Ring and begin to fall asleep.
The Skeleton would then hold onto the ring, crouched right beside Amberser’s palm. Should anyone enter the room, the little mouse would slip the Oak Ring onto Amberser’s finger to wake him up.
With all preparations complete, Amberser lay in bed, covering his body with the blanket, and discreetly covered the little Skeleton with it too. Then, he removed the Oak Ring under the covers.
The moment the ring left his finger, a wave of indescribable drowsiness washed over him.
After Amberser became a Lich, the act of sleeping had been eradicated from his life. He hadn’t experienced drowsiness in so long that it felt quite pleasant.
The Soul Fire simmered down to an inconspicuous spark, and Amberser’s consciousness completely receded as he recited the prayers praising the Oak Father in his mind.
In a befuddled state, Amberser felt a comfortable warmth and inhaled the fragrance of blooming flowers.
When he regained clarity, Amberser found himself in a small valley where birds chirped and flowers exuded sweet aromas.
What surprised Amberser even more was that here, he had regained his human body.
His heart was beating, his body warm, his eyes could see colors, and it wasn’t just sensing everything with his soul in a sea of explanatory texts.
This long-lost sensation of being alive brought tears to Amberser’s eyes.
Only after losing them did he understand how precious these sensations were—vision, smell, hearing, and touch. Memories made from these senses were vivid, while a Lich’s memories were just large chunks of narrative, and of the tiresome and lengthy kind.
An idea struck Amberser, “If I could create this barrier at home, wouldn’t the side effects of becoming a Lich be gone?”
The biggest problem with being a Lich was losing all sensations, gradually losing one’s humanity, and then swaying between extreme rationality and extreme paranoia, becoming either heartless or mad.
But if he could occasionally experience the sensations of being alive, perhaps that side effect could be mitigated.

Then becoming a Lich really would be the most profitable transaction.
Amberser tried to control the dreamscape with his will, and swiftly, a silvery, plump Slime appeared.
The Mercury Avatar was a creation of Amberser.
He reached out to touch it and indeed, it felt just like the real thing.
Amberser then tried another thought, and the Mercury Avatar swiftly transformed into a silvery Giant Dragon that seemed vibrant and alive, just like a real one.
Indeed, this Natural Dreamscape could conjure up all beings. As long as Naomi could enter the Natural Dreamscape and spend some quality time with the Dragon it conjured, transforming into a Dragon should be no issue.
Confirmed that the prayer was correct, Amberser had achieved his goal. Next, all he needed to do was to teach the prayer to Naomi.
Although the dreamscape was unforgettable, Amberser was a man of strong will. He was ready to use another prayer to leave the dreamscape when he was shocked to find the prayer for leaving the dreamscape ineffective.
Amberser frowned, “That can’t be right. If the prayer to enter was true, why is the prayer to leave ineffective? Could I have remembered it wrong?”
Then, a familiar feeling washed over him, and Amberser felt as if something was targeting him.
Turning around, he saw a cloud of dark gray mist behind him, with a pair of eyes emitting a pale glow within.
As Amberser locked eyes with the mist, it began to slowly morph, taking on a shape all too familiar to Amberser.
