Chapter 169

The next few days, whenever Chi Yan had free time, he would go to the library to study with Chu Yang, or they would go out for meals together. In the two days before the break, Chi Yan even invited Chu Yang to watch a movie. "Yang Yang, want to watch a movie? I have tickets for tomorrow evening." Chi Yan held up two tickets.

Chu Yang saw that he had already bought the tickets, so of course she would go. "Let's go then."

Chi Yan smiled. "Great."

The next day, after finishing their last exam, Chi Yan came to find Chu Yang. Today, Chu Yang was wearing a puff-sleeved blouse with a black plaid pleated skirt, boots, her hair tied in a half-bun with a little yellow duck hair clip, and a small bag on her back. She had a bracelet on her wrist, looking youthful and beautiful.

She stood under a tree, waiting for Chi Yan. He drove over, and as soon as he stopped the car, he spotted the figure under the tree and felt his heart beating rapidly.

Recognizing his car, Chu Yang hurried over and got into the passenger seat, fastening her seatbelt. "I'm ready, let's go!"

Chi Yan let out an "mm," not daring to look at her. He turned the car around and headed towards the cinema downtown.

The two first went for a meal. After eating, they still had time before the movie started, so Chi Yan took Chu Yang to an arcade. Since some schools had already started their break, the arcade was quite crowded.

Chi Yan exchanged for some game tokens, then they played shooting games, bumper cars, basketball hoops, and more, until it was almost time for the movie to start. Only then did they reluctantly make their way to the cinema.

Chu Yang actually had no idea what movie they were watching, since Chi Yan had kept the tickets with him. However, as soon as the ominous sounds started and the blood-red title 'Village Ghosts' flashed across the screen, she shuddered and looked at Chi Yan. He blinked innocently at her. "Hmm?"

Chu Yang pinched his side.

Chi Yan grimaced in pain. "It was... Wei Feng who bought the tickets."

Chu Yang let out a "humph" and turned to watch the movie.

But soon, Chu Yang wasn't calm anymore, for the opening scenes were terrifying: a pitch-black desolate village, gaunt elders occasionally flashing through dark doorways, burning joss paper in house corners, and the wailing of a child... The atmosphere was truly chilling.

Girls with boyfriends had already hidden in their partners' embrace, while groups of friends held each other's hands tightly.

But Chu Yang's hands were clenched into fists, despite the fear in her eyes.

Then, the climax hit, and the whole theater erupted in screams. Chu Yang also let out a "wah" before burying herself in Chi Yan's arms.

Chi Yan hurriedly held her close. "Don't be scared, don't be scared."

After that, Chu Yang didn't leave his embrace. She was still terrified, and Chi Yan suddenly regretted his decision. He shouldn't have listened to the others about watching a horror movie: Chu Yang was so frightened. What if she blamed him?

Chu Yang clutched at Chi Yan's shirt tightly, her usual cool, aloof demeanor nowhere to be seen. Now, she was just a poor, frightened thing, tears welling up in her eyes from fear.

Chi Yan gently wiped her tears away. "Don't cry, it's not real," he soothed in a low voice.

Chu Yang glared at him, though with tears still in her eyes, it looked more like a pout.

Chi Yan inwardly berated himself, then said in a coaxing tone, "There's a way to stop you from being scared."

Chu Yang looked at him with wide, innocent eyes, unaware of the trap she was falling into. "What way?"

Chi Yan closed his eyes briefly in self-reproach, then opened them and covered Chu Yang's eyes with his hand. "Close your eyes."

Chu Yang obediently closed her eyes. As terrifying sounds continued from the movie, her lashes fluttered, but then her chin was tilted up, and her soft lips were pressed against...

Then her mouth was pried open, invaded...

Chu Yang immediately opened her eyes to screams all around them. Her hands, previously clutching Chi Yan's shirt tightly, released, leaving creases. She tried to push him away, but her hands felt weak. After another feeble push, her hands were caught, and she was pulled firmly into his embrace as he fervently continued his assault.

When it ended, Chi Yan murmured huskily in her ear, "Still scared?"

Chu Yang pushed him away and turned back to the screen, which happened to show a ghastly face at that moment. She quickly hid in Chi Yan's embrace again, able to hear his racing heartbeat, almost as fast as her own. Listening to the rhythm, Chu Yang gradually stopped feeling afraid. This person... seemed quite nervous, actually.

Chu Yang looked up at him, and Chi Yan covered her eyes with his hand. "Don't look at me..." He was afraid she would see the desire in his eyes.

"You..." Chu Yang's mouth moved, but in the end, she didn't say anything. Instead, she turned her head, pushed his hand away, and watched the screen.

Chi Yan leaned his head on her shoulder, also watching the screen. The movie was nearing its conclusion, but he hadn't really paid much attention.

When the movie ended, the two walked out of the cinema hand-in-hand.

Only after checking her phone did Chu Yang realize that it was too late to return to campus that night. She didn't believe that this wasn't intentional on Chi Yan's part!

Although it was quite late, the streets were still crowded. The two slowly made their way hand-in-hand towards the parking lot. Just as they reached it, they saw in a corner a girl being pressed against a car by a guy kissing her fervently. Chu Yang turned her head away, only to catch Chi Yan staring at the scene. She immediately straightened his head. "What are you looking at?"

Chi Yan was just envious. "Nothing... nothing."

Chu Yang got into the car. "Let's go."

"Oh, okay."

Chi Yan drove back to the residential area and led Chu Yang into that familiar room. As soon as they entered, they took off their shoes, then Chi Yan went to the kitchen to get Chu Yang a glass of water. He also brought out a full set of sleepwear for her from the bedroom. "Pajamas. You'll sleep in the other room tonight." He busied himself, afraid that Chu Yang might suggest going to a hotel instead. He even forgot that if she really wanted to stay at a hotel, she would have said so when they were driving back, not wait until now.

Chu Yang didn't say anything. She drank some water, sat for a bit, then took the clothes and went to the bathroom. After about half an hour, she came out, grabbed a book from the study, and went into the bedroom.

Chu Yang read for a while, then lay down to sleep when it got late enough.

Meanwhile, Chi Yan paced around the living room after showering, glancing hesitantly at the bedroom door but ultimately returning to his own room.

Chu Yang was in a daze when she felt a presence by her bedside. She opened and closed her eyes, thinking she was seeing things, but when she opened them again, she almost screamed. "What are you doing?"

Chu Yang was now fully awake and quickly turned on the light.

Chi Yan was also startled, then immediately apologized. "Sorry, sorry."

Chu Yang asked, "Are you a pervert?"

Chi Yan replied dejectedly, "I was just scared." He had had another dream where she disappeared.

Chu Yang felt his forehead, which was damp with sweat. Understanding dawned, and her voice softened. "What's wrong?"

Chi Yan lay his head on Chu Yang's lap. "I dreamed that you were gone."
