To His Hell and Back-Chapter 162: Midnight’s Glow-II
Chapter 162: Midnight’s Glow-II
Only then could she saw a smile stretched between Cassius’s red lips. Not the kind that was gloomy and filled with malice. Also not the one that looked pretty but bleak inside. It was the kind of smile that felt boyish. That felt like sunset glow between the horizon, as blinding as a cracked fresh egg with orange golden shine. The smile was warm and even though his face always exuded a frightening air, now it had looked so boyish, like a man of his age still trying to figure out what life could be.
Now that she realized it perhaps Cassius never had a childhood. If he was told to fight since a young age and kicked to war, when had he ever felt life? Just like her, always so busy to amend their parent’s life when it was in reality their own life for them to lead on.
At times like this, she could understand Cassius better than anyone else and that made her feel closer to him than ever.
"You will be sad," he repeated with a smile, "Arabella if I ask whether I could drink your blood, would you let me?"
A request. A Cassius’s request.
She thought about those fangs sinking on her neck and wondered how painful it could be. Usually vampires drinks until the human is dried up but Cassius seemed like he was going to take a sip. If she consider his small sip like a mosquito’s bite, it shouldn’t be too painful right?
"I thought you don’t drink blood," she told him and he shook his head.
"It’s a little true but at the same time incorrect. I can drink blood I just refuses to since some blood could be laced with poison. The scent of blood usually mask with poison, making it more difficult to detect. I only drink when necessary and choose animal’s blood as they are far cleaner than a human’s."
Arabella frowned as she had thought it was some kind of an illness as vampires like humans should have illnesses too. But it seems she was still lacking with her knowledge and turns out the source of Cassius’s choose began with his fear of being poisoned.
She thought about Queen Morgana who would pull all kind of tricks in her book to make sure that Cassius would die and perhaps she had done something similar in the past.
"Did she ever laced a poison?"
"Oh of course she did," Cassius chuckled as he stared at her adorable face. Her plump skin looked healthier with the sleep and food he had provided to her and he didn’t think that this was a waste either. He wanted to make her plumper and for her to gain the lustre of her glossy hair again. Without stress and with full attention. Not to make her fatter so he could devour her but a kind of joy in simply finding someone was living well and healthy.
He poked her cheeks which she raised her eyebrows at.
Was he poking at a chick?
She puffed her cheeks by blowing air inside her mouth only for him to squeeze her cheeks together while speaking, "She once told a human, who was supposed to give her blood for me to drink, to drink poison. She stupidly forgot that the human would have died first before the poisoned blood could enter my mouth. Since then I didn’t bother drinking human blood, they have became my weakness after all."
"Really?" Her green eyes watched his expression that seemed to momentarily looked back to his own past and reflect, "Was that all you felt when that human died?"
"Hm, yes. What did you expect me to feel? Pity that the human had died because they were told to kill me?" Cassius questioned her, "But was it my order that they have to act upon? No, it was Morgana’s."
"A little," Arabella answered and she could see for a moment how his face was unreadable. But she could tell he was thinking of something deep, something he didn’t use to reflect upon which he had due to her presence. She looked around and back at him, "Maybe not pity but anger?" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"I don’t know," Cassius answered her, his tone was at a loss as he said, "I don’t quite remember such an old tale."
"I heard that you aren’t that much older than me," Arabella then changed the conversation and he looked at her grinning.
"Must have been Marissa. She talks a lot."
"She knows a lot about you," she answered, "I don’t think she despise you. You protected her from the danger she wasn’t aware of."
"I did protect her from danger by becoming danger and killing a lover," then he sighed which she noted. "And yet like a squirrel who had forgotten the hole where it just fell into a second ago she had fallen in love again with another human man. At least this one is less dangerous and more decent."
Curiosity brimmed into Arabella’s mind as she took his hand that was still poking her cheeks as if it was steamed buns, "Princess Marissa is in love again? But the person-"
"You and I know how scary humans could be but don’t worry, I have been keeping an eye on the man. He works in the castle and though she likes him they are friend for now ah or maybe enemies?"
Arabella frowned while Cassius sound lighthearted. She was worried that this relationship would only end up in doom which would break the princess’s heart even further. After all she was someone who has a feeling more humane than most humans. Besides "enemies" doesn’t sound good and it only increases her worries.
"I have another question-"
"Not for free," Cassius shushed, "I know you are trying to make me forgot what I had said earlier but I can gladly repeat it for you if you’d like. I need the answer."
Arabella furrowed her eyebrows and taunted him back, "So my blood for an answer?"
"Your blood and I would grant any wish you have."
"But why?" She crossed her arms, "You don’t seem hungry. You don’t look shriveled up."
And he hummed for a moment while she felt his red eyes drinking in her appearance, devouring her features as his eyes trail over her face, her eyes, her nose, and then downward to the curves of her waist. His eyes hadn’t touched her but it left all the part he had looked burning with an intangible heat that left her skin scalding.
