Chapter 83: Concerned Friend

Eira chuckled softly. "I think you’ve seen for yourself—I can handle myself. Besides, Reed is more than capable, and in some ways, he’s better than me. There’s no need to worry."

Malia sighed, still unconvinced, but she stepped forward and gave Eira another brief hug. "Alright. Be careful," she said reluctantly. "I’ll call you later."

"Okay."

"Bye, Ephyra. See you on Monday," Cyran added, stepping in to give her a quick hug as well.

Orla, who had remained silent, let out a resigned sigh before patting Eira’s back in a rushed hug. "Take care," she muttered.

With that, the five of them climbed into a car. Lance shoved the restrained attacker into the trunk, muttering something about questioning.

Eira watched them drive away before turning and heading to the car where Reed was waiting in the driver’s seat. She slid into the passenger side, shutting the door behind her.

"To the hospital," she instructed as she opened the glove compartment and retrieved a syringe. Turning in her seat, she grabbed Myra’s limp wrist, pulled the cap off the syringe, and inserted the needle into her vein. She drew blood with practiced ease, watching as the syringe filled.

Once it was full, Eira pulled the needle out, capped it, and leaned back into her seat. She dropped the syringe into a small disposable bag, sealing it tightly before tossing it toward Reed.

"Give this to Jania," she said coolly, closing her eyes.

"Yes, Miss Ephyra," Reed replied, his tone steady as the car smoothly pulled onto the road.

Eira exhaled softly, letting herself relax for the first time since the fight.

Twenty minutes later, they reached the hospital. The bright lights of the emergency entrance reflected off the car’s glossy black surface as Reed pulled up to the curb. Eira opened her eyes, her expression calm but calculating.

"Stay here," she instructed Reed as she unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out of the car.

Reed gave her a curt nod. "Understood, Miss Ephyra."

She rounded the car and opened the back door, leaning in to check on Myra. The girl was still unconscious, her pale face a stark contrast to the chaos she’d unwittingly caused. Eira’s lips twitched in irritation as she adjusted Myra’s position to make it easier to pull her out.

Two nurses rushed toward them, one pushing a wheelchair, the other carrying a clipboard.

"What happened to her?" one of the nurses asked, her tone professional but urgent as she crouched beside Eira.

"She fainted during a confrontation," Eira replied briskly, leaving out the details of the attack. "She might have minor bruising, but I’m not sure of the extent of her injuries."

The nurse nodded, her hands moving quickly to check Myra’s pulse. "We’ll take her from here."

Eira stepped back, watching as they carefully transferred Myra into the wheelchair. The girl’s head lolled slightly.

"Do you have her identification?" the nurse with the clipboard asked, looking up expectantly.

Eira reached into Myra’s jacket, pulling out her wallet. She handed over the ID card. "Here. Let me know if she needs any further assistance."

The nurse nodded, glancing at the card. "Thank you. Are you a family member?"

"No," Eira replied smoothly. "Just a concerned friend."

The nurse didn’t press further, giving her a polite smile before wheeling Myra through the automatic doors.

Eira returned to the car, closing the door behind her. "Let’s go, Reed."

"Yes, Miss Ephyra."

As the car merged onto the road, Eira stared out the window, her expression unreadable.

A few minutes later, Reed’s car glided into the Allen’s mansion’s sprawling driveway just in time for Eira to catch a glimpse of Marianna’s sleek black sedan pulling out.

Eira turned her gaze away as the two vehicles crossed paths. The hospital must have called her already.

She stepped out of the car, smoothing her jacket as Reed gave her a nod and drove out of the mansion. Without pausing, Eira strode through the grand front doors and up the marble staircase, heading directly to her room.

Once inside, she kicked off her shoes and tossed her bag onto the desk with a sigh, her fingers brushing through her hair as she tried to shake off the lingering tension. Just as she began to relax, her phone buzzed loudly from her pocket. She pulled it out and saw Malia’s name flashing on the screen.

"Ephyra, are you home?" Malia’s worried voice greeted her as soon as she answered.

"Yes, I just got to my room," Eira replied, leaning back against the edge of her desk. "What about you?"

"We got home a few minutes ago," Malia said, a hint of relief in her tone.

"And Cyran?"

"We dropped him off already. His mom was waiting for him in front of the house," Malia explained, her voice softening slightly. "She looked so worried. You should’ve seen how quickly she hugged him."

Eira chuckled lightly, the sound almost surprising herself. "Well, that isn’t surprising."

"You really scared me today, Ephyra," Malia admitted after a pause, her voice trembling slightly. "I thought... I thought something awful might happen to you."

"I’m fine, Malia. I promise," Eira reassured her gently. "I wouldn’t let anyone hurt me."

"But how can you be so calm about this?" Malia pressed, her voice rising slightly in frustration. "You fought like—like you’ve done this a hundred times before! And those men... they weren’t just ordinary attackers, were they?"

Eira hesitated, her fingers tightening slightly around the phone. "It’s complicated," she said finally, her tone carefully neutral. "But I’ll explain everything once I know what’s really happening. Trust me, okay?"

Malia let out a reluctant sigh. "Fine. But don’t think I’ll forget about this. You owe me a full explanation."

"I know," Eira said, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Now get some rest. Today was a lot for all of us."

"Alright. Goodnight, Ephyra," Malia said softly.

"Goodnight, Malia," Eira replied before ending the call.

She set the phone down on the desk and started taking off her clothes.

Eira woke up to the sound of her phone’s ringtone. Sitting up, she picked the phone on the side table and glanced at the time.

7:08 PM

Then her eyes went to the name flashing on the screen, Jania.
