Chapter 114: War

Time went by quickly and without realizing it, it had been two days since Ren had found out about the situation in Nightshire City.

At this moment, he flew to Nightshire City as fast as possible.

Whenever he only had little mana left, he used the Mana Replenishment feature. He didn’t care about the expensive price.

He had lost his hometown once, so he didn’t want to lose it again, especially when Scarlett, Lexie, and Luna were in Nightshire City.

’I hope I can make it on time.’

As he was flying fast in the sky, General Georgia talked with Scarlett in her office.

She and her subordinates had obtained information about their enemies, so they returned to prepare for war.

"Their leader is from a dragon race, and his name is Julzreon." General Georgia said Julzreon had one hundred and twenty thousand subordinates. "Even though most of them are only at 1-star, he has around seventy 3-star magical beasts under his command."

"When are they going to attack us?" Scarlett inquired.

"Tomorrow morning." General Georgia answered.

"General Georgia, activate the barrier and send food to the underground hideout," Scarlett commanded. "We will hide children and old people in the hideout tomorrow morning."

"Understood." After saying that, General Georgia walked out of her office.

After her work was done, Scarlett left her office and took a walk around her city. Complicated feelings arose in her heart as she saw the buildings and her people.

Juzreon and his underlings would attack them, so she didn’t know whether her city would still exist tomorrow or not.

’I must protect my city and my people tomorrow.’

----

The following morning, Scarlett ordered Captain Noah to ring the bell. Everyone instantly stopped what they were doing and headed to the underground hideout.

Scarlett had told them what to do when she rang the bell, so they went straight to the hideout.

"Mother, is our city going to be destroyed? Are we going to die?" a kid who was heading to the hideout with her mother asked.

"Don’t worry. City mistress and the others will kill all the magical beasts." Her mother responded as she smiled softly as if there was no fear or anxiety in her heart. "Let’s walk faster so that we can pray to God immediately."

"Un." The kid nodded her head.

"Auntie Lexie, you must not die. You must survive and kill all the magical beasts." Luna didn’t want Lexie to die because she was her only family in this world.

"Don’t worry. I won’t die." Lexie would try her best to survive because she didn’t want to leave her alone in the cruel world.

Luna skimmed her surroundings before finally asking, "Is big brother still not back?"

"He will arrive soon." Lexie believed Ren would arrive on time later.

"If you meet big brother, tell him to keep his promise." Luna spoke and paused for a second before she continued, "Tell him to protect the city and the citizens, too."

"Alright. I will deliver your words after meeting him." Lexie responded as she smiled.

"Then, I will wait in the underground hideout." Luna could not suppress her sad feelings because there was a possibility that she might not be able to see Lexie’s smile again after this.

Lexie caressed Luna’s hair gently before finally looking at the babysitters. "Protect her well."

"Understood, madam." The babysitters responded in unison.

Scarlett shifted her gaze to her subordinates, who were tasked with protecting the children and elderly in the underground hideout. "If we don’t open the door today, take them out of the city through a hidden path."

"Understood, city mistress." Her subordinates responded in unison.

Then, Scarlett and the others headed to the entrance gate.

----

"Everyone, remember what I taught you in the past two days." Colonel Aidan, who was standing in front of non-awakener group, shouted.

"We remember it, Colonel." The citizens responded in unison.

"Brendan, Kai, Their lives are in your hands, so think before you do anything. Do you understand?" Colonel Aidan split the non-awakener group into two groups yesterday.

Brendan was the leader of group A, while Kai was the leader of group B.

"Understood, Colonel." Brendan and Kai responded.

"What do we take up arms for?" Colonel Aidan shouted.

"To protect our city and our families!" Brendan and the others answered.

"Who is our enemy?" Colonel Aidan shouted again.

"Magical beasts!" Kai and the others answered.

"What are we going to do to them?" Colonel Aidan shouted.

"We are going to kill them and make them regret attacking our city!" The citizens answered in unison.

"Follow me to the gate now. We will regroup with the city mistress and the others." Colonel Aidan said, "We will show them the consequences of attacking our city."

"Show them the consequences of attacking our city."

"Show them the consequences of attacking our city."

"Show them the consequences of attacking our city."

They kept shouting the same words as they headed to the gate, as if they were chanting a magic spell.

After reaching the gate, Scarlett ordered everyone to stand by in their positions.

She and the archers were on the gate wall, while the four big families and the rest were before the entrance gate.

Not long after they were in their respective positions, the ground shook with the footsteps of countless magical beasts.

These magical beasts didn’t attack Nightshire City immediately; instead, they stood several hundred meters from them without doing anything.

They even lined up neatly as if they were not magical beasts but soldiers.

"So many!"

"How many do you think there are?"

"I think it’s around one hundred thousand."

"I heard it was more than one hundred thousand."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Well, it doesn’t matter. No matter how many there are, I will kill them all."

"That’s right. We will kill them all."

"Hey, look! A dragon!"

"What?! A dragon?"

"What a huge dragon! Is that dragon their leader?"

The citizens were shocked when they saw a dragon flying in the sky.

Like these magical beasts, the dragon didn’t attack Nightshire City immediately; instead, it flew toward the magical beasts before finally descending from the sky.

"Welcome, young lord."

"Welcome, young lord."

"Welcome, young lord."

The 3-star magical beasts greeted him while the 1-star and 2-star kept lowering their heads.

Just as the black dragon was about to land on the ground, its body transformed into that of a human.

"How is the preparation?" Julzreon inquired.

"Everything is ready, young lord," Laiex responded politely.

Julzreon’s lips curled up into a smile before finally stepping forward. "Human."

Even though he spoke in a normal tone, Scarlett and her people could hear him clearly because he infused his energy into his voice.

"I will give you two choices." Julzreon spoke and paused for a second before he finally continued, "Surrender and become my slave or die?"

"Go fuck yourself!"

"Fuck you!"

"Eat my middle finger, little dragon!"

"Who do you think you are, asshole?"

"Bastard, do you think we are afraid of you?"

One by one, the citizens yelled at Julzreon.

Even though he was from the mighty dragon race, there was no sign of fear in their eyes. They even treated him like an ordinary delinquent, as if the dragon race was nothing in their eyes.

As the war was about to break out, Ren was close to Nightshire City.

’Hold on a little longer. I’m already close.’
