Low-Profile

In the Rolls-Royce, Old Liu respectfully addressed her as “Sixth Miss” and informed her, “We are approximately 30 kilometers away from Jin’an Garden, your residence. If you’re feeling tired, you can take a rest.”

Fang Yuan’s long eyelashes fluttered. So her home was located in Jin’an Garden, the most prestigious villa area in Jing City?

“Could you please take me to Renyi Hospital first?”

Renyi Hospital was known for its top-notch medical resources and reputation as the best hospital in Jing City. It was conveniently located not far from Jin’an Garden.

“Sixth Miss, are you feeling unwell?” Old Liu asked anxiously. “I’ll take you to the hospital immediately!”

Fang Yuan replied, “No, I just want to visit Grandma Fang before I leave.”

Among the entire Fang Family, only Grandma Fang had treated her with sincerity. When Fang Yuan had discovered that she wasn’t a biological child of the Fang Family, Old Mrs. Fang had fallen ill and spent the entire month in the hospital.

Old Liu hadn’t expected his Sixth Miss to be so filial, which improved his opinion of her.

Twenty minutes later, the car stopped at the entrance of Renyi Hospital. Fang Yuan stepped out and spoke gently, “Uncle Liu, please find a place to wait for me.”

Old Liu agreed, saying, “Okay.”

Inside the inpatient department of Renyi Hospital, in Ward 201, an elderly woman with white hair lay on the bed.

Due to the pain, her face appeared gaunt and pale.

As Fang Yuan pushed the door open and entered the ward, her grandmother remained unconscious. Her eyes were shut, and she lay motionless. The wrinkles on her face accentuated her aged appearance.

Approaching the bed, Fang Yuan felt a lump in her throat. How had this once vibrant old lady deteriorated to such a state?

“Fang Xiaoyuan!” The doctor entered the room, saw her, and made a few notes in the medical record. “You’ve come at the right time. Let’s have a chat.” He put away his pen, his face showing no ill intent as he turned to face her.

“You know very well that all heart medications are ineffective for Old Madame Fang. Even when the dosage was increased, it no longer had any effect.”

“You’re aware, more than anyone else, that at the stage of heart failure, the heart’s life is nearing its end, and it’s an irreversible condition. Frankly, it’s already a miracle that she has survived until now. What is this?”

Before the doctor could finish his sentence, Fang Yuan tossed a small bottle toward Old Madame Fang.

“Heart-strengthening pills?” Chen Yang exclaimed in shock as he examined the bottle. “Fang Yuan, where did you get these?” Weren’t these the highly sought-after and scarce miracle pills that had been causing a frenzy in the black market lately? They were rumored to be incredibly effective in treating heart disease, and just a single pill cost over 10 million yuan… Not only were they exorbitantly priced, but they were also extremely rare, with only one being auctioned off each month! How did Fang Yuan manage to obtain such a rare item?

“You’ve done enough for the Fang Family to deserve this treatment. There’s no need for you to…” Before Chen Yang could finish his sentence, Fang Yuan shot him a warning glare.

“What? What did I say wrong? Even her own son doesn’t visit as often as you do…”

Six months ago, Chen Yang had graduated from one of the country’s top medical universities and started his internship at Renyi Hospital. He had been conceited ever since, owing to his family background in medicine. However, it wasn’t until he encountered Fang Yuan that he realized there was always someone superior out there.

On one occasion, he had spent several nights grappling with a particularly challenging medical case, yet none of the treatment options seemed suitable. However, with just a cursory look, Fang Yuan devised a brilliant treatment plan with a few simple words. On another occasion, Fang Yuan happened upon a patient’s chest scans and CT scans, immediately detecting that the patient had lung cancer. Chen Yang had initially diagnosed it as pneumonia. Numerous instances like these had left him in awe. But what he admired most was Fang Yuan’s repeated ability to save Old Madame Fang, whom all the doctors had given up on.

Fang Yuan was merely a high school student, and yet each time she appeared, she delivered a profound shock, shattering his arrogance and ignorance, compelling him to adopt a more humble demeanor.

During their time together, Chen Yang had witnessed how Fang Yuan was disliked by the Fang Family. As they got to know each other, they became friends. Chen Yang was well aware that the best chance for Old Madame Fang’s survival was to undergo a heart transplant. However, due to her advanced age and high blood pressure, her heart condition had deteriorated to the point where she couldn’t even move. Fang Yuan had given him a heart-strengthening pill in the hope that it would improve her condition, making her less frail and ensuring she wouldn’t perish before making it to the operating table.

But the Fang Family remained oblivious to this. They believed that the exorbitant fees they paid would ensure Old Madame Fang’s safety.

“The Fang Family would never understand the true value of this,” Chen Yang said emotionally.

“Alright, please take good care of Grandma for me,” Fang Yuan cast a final glance at Old Madame Fang reluctantly. “I have to leave now.” It wasn’t advisable to stay too long, as if Old Madame Fang woke up and saw her, it would trigger strong emotions and worsen her condition, leading to complications they wanted to avoid.
