Chapter 76: Type of Pitches. (1/2)
Lukas was happy hearing that he could sit with the captain, but he was smart enough to avoid any places that could just make him feel like he was taking advantage, so he just sat tight inside the plane.
After five to six minutes everything was ready, and Lukas was just seated in the first seat he was given. Many girls of the staff were waving at him, but he just nodded his head with politeness and just sat there quietly.
As he was seated in the first seat, which, if this was a normal plane, would’ve been a business class seat, the legroom was very good, he was kind of hoping the flight would be smooth.
A very beautiful girl walks to him, she was wearing a Phillies jersey and got extremely close to Lukas. He was smiling, although this much closeness was creeping him out a lot.
" Sir, I will help you tie the seat belts as the plane is about to take off." The girl told Lukas, but Lukas still felt like she was too close for his comfort, so he smiled and, nodding his head, locked the belts.
" Thank you," Lukas said in a tone that was almost like , ’Get lost.’
The girl went back to her seat, the plane started to move, and Karl, who was watching Lukas from afar, smiled because this was also a test from the manager, he wanted to check if Lukas was a lustful person.
As Lukas was a teenager, they had to do a lot of secret testing before putting him as their team’s face on billboards, and with his natural gift, utilizing him was a double-edged sword, if he goes down whole team goes down with him.
Karl was happy so far with how Lukas was behaving, he was taking opportunities that were given to him, and if he wasn’t comfortable, he was standing up for himself.
The plane felt long for Lukas as they were flying for one hour, and there were still one hour and twenty minutes left to land.
Lukas unfastened his seat belts and walked up to Karl, he needed to book a taxi or car service from the airport to the practice ground.
" Hello, Karl, Just wanted to ask you if you can book a cab for me real quick, as I am not that familiar with Florida, and you know I don’t ...." Before Lukas could say anything more, Karl smiled widely at him.
" Don’t worry, there will be an extra car for you to go into the practice field. You are going to Carpenter Complex for pitching, I guess. Don’t worry about anything from now on." Karl smilingly said, and he then pulled out his clipboard and started writing something out of the blue.
" A...alright, I guess." Lukas, saying this, returned to his seat and was offered a sandwich. Seeing it was almost lunchtime, he took it and ate it.
The plane landed smoothly, and people started to do their things. As Lukas got up, the pilot came in a hurry and stopped him before he could go downstairs.
" Hey, sir, I am so sorry about stopping you abruptly like this, but can I get your autograph, please? My son really liked you, and he is five years old. I can’t say I met you without your autograph. Pilot asked very politely, and there was a certain accent in his voice.
" S... Sure, what is your son’s name?" Lukas asked, then picked up the pen and the paper Pilot was handing him.
The paper looked like some kind of ticket, so Lukas confusedly looked at the man, who just smiled widely and told Lukas this was a ticket to Michael Jackson’s concert and he would love to have it autographed by Lukas.
Lukas just shook his head and signed it, he wrote Bobby and left the plane.
Going down, he saw a black-colored Toyota waiting for him at the airport, and it took him to his practice center, where the fields were almost empty, as today there was no match and only a couple of players doing exercises and training.
Lukas walked inside the field, and seeing there was a middle-aged man showing the younger guys how to pitch, he understood this must be the pitching trainer or coach, whatever.
He directly walked up to him. Seeing him, many young guys were quite shocked, but they behaved.
" Alright, try the one-two formula. I have something to discuss with this young man here," Steve said to the person he was teaching the ball and looked at Lukas in the eyes.
" Coach, you called. Sorry for being late, I was not here in this state at all," Lukas said. He apologized as he was not responsible enough.
"I thought you wouldn’t show up, so you have already passed, ahahaha. Now then, look at you. Did you come here to attend a wedding? Go change into something that you can run around and be comfortable with, and anything expensive, don’t leave that in the locker room. The official players are not training today, so security won’t be that tight," Steve said, then pointed in a direction and went back to training the rookies.
Lukas, nodding his head, found a way to the locker room, but he does not have any comfortable clothes to wear, so he went out to buyuy a pair of trousers and a plain white jersey so that he can at least train.
He went outside and found a good-looking store called DICK’S Sporting Goods. The store looked nice, and they accepted cards, so it was a win-win.
He purchased practice trousers for $35 and a replica Phillies baseball jersey for about $60 and returned only to see the coach gesturing to him to get gloves and a ball.
Lukas ran back again and purchased a Rawlings MLB-grade baseball for $12 and a Wilson A2000 pitcher’s glove for $130, then returned.
"Alright, everyone, Today’s practice is over, go home," Steve said to the players who were practicing. As they were leaving, the players glanced at Lukas.
