'What the hell is this, how is she so strong?' Zaroth's mind raced. He was considering if he should summon Luna, but in the end decided against it. His mana core was almost empty, so if she transformed, she would not be able to keep her form for long. It appeared he had no choice but to speak with the elf.

"Relax, there is no need to feel alarmed," the elf reassured as she let go of his blade.

While his weapon was back in his control, he didn't feel even a little reassured. Just now, this woman showed him that she could overpower him with ease.

Even if he was wearing a mask, the elf was able to see that Zaroth wasn't calm in the slightest.

With a sigh, she parted her lips. "I assume it is rude for me to ask you questions without introducing myself first. My name is Sira."

With a nod, he spoke, "Zaroth." He assumed it would be a bad idea to lie to her, and as such, he used his real name. "Now tell me, what do you want?"

Sira scoffed. Like always, by showing that she was able to overpower the person before her, he was willing to answer her questions.

"It's not that complicated. I mostly want to learn about the affairs in these lands," she replied.

Zaroth found it odd why she was interested in human affairs, but with a sigh, he gave her a brief overview of what was going on between the empires, how there was a war, and why it was started in the first place, though he didn't share the most sensitive information.

Sira put a finger over her lips and gazed to the side. She was deep in thought.

While this was happening, the sounds of battle and cries were heard all over. 'It seems that Eldros and Nightshade are doing their job at least,' Zaroth thought.

"Then what is your goal in all this?" she asked, her beautiful, piercing eyes locking onto his.

Zaroth gulped. He almost forgot how mesmerizing her appearance was. The only one that could rival her was probably Luna, but even this was different. It was like Sira was giving off some kind of irresistible aura.

'Things have escalated up to this point already, so I guess it is fine to tell her?' he reasoned.

"To get strong and kill the gods," he spoke plainly. From what he knew, elves didn't rely on blessings, so they shouldn't really like them that much… hopefully.

"I see…" she sighed. "That is what I wanted to ask. Thanks for answering my questions."

"Wait!" he called out. "Why were you kept here as a slave if you could have broken free at any time? Were you looking for something? Are all elves as strong as you? What was the reason for this conversation?" He had many questions that he wanted answered.

"Reason…" she muttered under her breath. "When I came to this continent, at first I went through what you humans call the Graveborn Empire. Did you know that in their capital there was a giant tree? What caught my attention the most, however, was that it looked like it was dead. There was no indication that it was alive. Not long after, I witnessed a child eating a corpse of a man. As the child kept eating, it endlessly apologized, asking his father for forgiveness between bites."

"If you try to find reason in the actions of every being, you will go insane. In the first place, some things are inexplicable. If a god decided that it wanted to get rid of us, it could descend into the mortal land and destroy the continent with a flick of a finger. Would you ask what was the reason for its actions? No, you would be dead. The being could kill you on a whim, and it will not bother to explain its actions to you."

"The situation right now is somewhat similar. There isn't really a reason for doing what I was doing, and if there was, I will not tell you, as you are too weak to demand anything from me."

Sira stepped closer, getting an arm's length away from Zaroth, he stiffened, but didn't move.

"But," she added with a faint smile, "Out of the goodness of my heart, I'll share a piece of the truth. I was searching for something. I haven't found it yet… but you might be able to play the part."

Before he could react, Sira reached out and snatched his odachi out of his grasp. With swift movements, she put her finger on the blade and began to write something on it.

"You can count this as a gift from me. If you want to learn more and achieve what you have set out to do, then you have to get stronger and reach our lands. There, you will get your answers."

Finishing what she was doing, she buried his weapon deep in the ground. Zaroth stared at the weapon in trance. Strange, glowing green symbols shimmered on the blade—foreign, unreadable. But deep in his soul, he felt it. This was an enchantment.

Torin had once told him his weapon could hold one—and now, Sira had given him just that.

Would it make his blade even more lethal? It had to. After all, it came from a powerful elf. freёnovelkiss.com

After two seconds, he shook off his thoughts and yanked out the weapon from the ground. Just by grabbing it, he could tell that it had become even sharper.

Sira had her back toward him, already leaving from the doorway.

"Wait!" he called out again. "How will I know when I'm strong enough to reach the elf continent?"

Sira waved off her hand dismissively, not bothering to look at him.

"If you manage to cross the ocean… then you will be strong enough."

Before he could respond, she was already out of his sight.

'She is gone,' Luna spoke in his mind. 'The space around us isn't reacting strangely anymore.'

Zaroth didn't respond. He was still staring at his blade, lost in thought.

He had considered countless possibilities for how his meeting with the elf might unfold—but none of them came close to this.

For a fraction of a second, he wondered if there was even a point in coming here at all. Sira—the elf—had been able to break free of her chains at any time; she had never truly been captured. After he had "freed" her, she didn't teach him about how their runes worked...

But here, he met Eldros. He now had a powerful ally always by his side. He had seen how much strength a person could gain by looking at the elf, and he had been told there was a Fragment in him, whatever that was.

His eyes rested on the blade of his weapon for a few more moments, until the cries of battle broke him out of his trance.

A smirk appeared on his face. "Well, I have indeed gained a few things. Not to mention that now this city is pretty much done for."

He had single-handedly made the second-largest city of the Crimson Sun Empire fall, and he had even taken out one of the members of the council.

"Stretching lazily, he stepped out of the room. "Now that I've gotten a bit frustrated, I can vent some steam by killing slave traders."
