Chapter 1401: Section 1402: Strange Incidents Occur Frequently

Angel hardly had any investment in this trade at all, from start to finish. The White Light Bullets were transformed from undead, which belonged to Black Castle, and so did the Infant Spirits.

Of course, it wasn’t fair to say there was no investment whatsoever.

Without his concoction of Samsara Overture, none of these subsequent events would have been possible.

Angel continued to move forward, and not long after, the second and third White Light Bullets were successively loaded into the magazine.

Having been caught by surprise once by undead suddenly burrowing up from the ground, Angel this time also included the underground in his surveillance area to prevent a recurrence of the previous situation.

But sometimes, crises don’t necessarily come from unchecked corners—they might also stem from negligence.

The surrounding wizards were basically just stopping the undead conglomerates, while other souls were allowed to approach Angel, for Angel to deal with using Samsara Overture.

Many times before, there had been no issues, but this time, a significant oversight occurred.

An army of undead swarmed out, with nearly a thousand surrounding Angel completely.

This was the largest group of undead Angel had faced today. Normally, Angel would be calm and composed because, no matter the number, if there were no Special Undead or bizarre beings like the Infant Spirits, it would be a simple matter of cutting them down.

However, when he actually began to fight, he noticed something was amiss.

Some of the undead began to emit a bright light as they neared Angel.

Seeing this, Angel immediately realized it was the self-destruction of the undead conglomerates! And there wasn’t just one—there must have been at least a hundred charging into Angel’s range at the same time.

These undead conglomerates had already made their internal energy unstable, and even if Angel used Samsara Overture, there was no way he could reverse the explosion.

“Damn it, what kind of watch are you keeping? Why are so many undead conglomerates charging into the perimeter?”

“Careful!”

The explosion was immediate, and with hundreds of undead conglomerates detonating, it was too late for the surrounding wizards who noticed something wrong and wanted to come to his aid.

With a loud boom, the intense white light illuminated the entirety of Black Castle’s domain.

Dust flew, and the blinding light obscured everyone’s vision.

When the dust settled, people anxiously looked towards where Angel had been, only to see a huge crater with nothing—no person or body—inside.

“Phew—that was close.” A voice, sounding a bit shaken, came from the distance. Turning their attention there, they saw Angel standing by Sanders’ side.

Sanders tapped his staff into the air, and a strange pattern radiated out from the tip of the staff. Everyone faintly heard a shrieking sound.

“Nightmare Substitute!” Realizing what had happened, everyone understood the sequence of events.

Presumably, Sanders had noticed something wrong and immediately used Nightmare Substitute, breaking through the void to extract Angel from the spot.

Seeing this, everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief.

However, although Angel was saved, another problem remained unresolved: How did these undead conglomerates appear, and why hadn’t they been detected?

Reflecting on the previous circumstances, all the wizards frowned.

They all seemed like ordinary undead without any signs of being undead conglomerates… Where had the problem arisen?

They couldn’t help but turn their gaze towards Isabel.

Isabel was a leading figure of the Soul Sect a thousand years ago; perhaps only she could provide an answer.

Isabel pondered for a moment before saying, “Their aura seems to have been concealed by some specific trait.”

While others were still puzzled, Angel, the person concerned, furrowed his brow, pondering another incident that had occurred earlier—

“I encountered a rather odd undead,” Angel conveyed to Sanders beside him through the Mind Ribbon.

Amidst Sanders’ confusion, Angel explained the situation he had encountered.

Remembering the moment not long ago, Angel understood what was happening as soon as he saw the surrounding undead burst into white light—numerous undead conglomerates had broken through the encirclement.

With everything happening so quickly and time running short, even if he performed Astral Projection and left using the Gravity Meridian, he might still be affected by the blast. Angel was about to open a door for spatial transposition.

But just then, an undead appeared behind him, disrupting the rhythm of his door opening.

Angel was taken aback at the time; this undead had appeared silently and launched an attack on him.

“…And then, I was extracted from the center of the explosion by the Mentor’s Nightmare Substitute,” he finished.

“Listening to you, the oddness you’re referring to is the undead’s silent appearance behind you?” Sanders asked, puzzled.

“No,” Angel pondered for a moment, seemingly considering something before saying, “I have a strange feeling that when she appeared behind me, it wasn’t to attack me.”

He paused, and Angel added, “Or rather, her main goal wasn’t to attack me.”

“Then what was her goal?”

Angel pointed to the revolver in his palm, “It’s likely the Samsara Overture.”

Angel could still recall that at first, the opponent hadn’t attacked him; instead, she tried to snatch the Samsara Overture. However, Angel sensed the malice behind him in time, discovered her, and that turned her focus from snatching the Samsara Overture to attacking Angel.

“Do you still remember her features?”

“It’s of no use to remember them; when the Nightmare Substitute took me away, I saw her whole body begin to glow.”

“An undead aggregate?”

Angel nodded. It was indeed an undead aggregate, but its appearance was completely indiscernible.

Upon hearing this, Sanders’s expression changed slightly, “I feel like there’s something off about this. I need to discuss it with Isabel.”

No sooner had Sanders finished speaking than a female voice came through the Mind Ribbon, “If it’s about those undead aggregates, I’m sorry, but I actually haven’t figured out the specifics.”

The speaker was none other than Isabel.

“It is indeed related to undead aggregates but it’s another matter.” Sanders paused, “Angel, you should be the one to tell it.”

Because of the hundreds of undead aggregates that exploded simultaneously, the intense white light obscured the situation within, and only Angel knew what had happened.

When Isabel heard what Angel had to say, her eyebrows knitted together suddenly.

“The one that appeared behind you, was it really an undead aggregate?” Isabel mused, “I’ve studied these undead aggregates before. They are actually formed through some special means, weaving together fragments of different undead.”

“The so-called undead aggregates have only one function, which is to be consumed. Because they are even less logical in their behavior than ordinary undead.”

As a Soul Witch, Isabel could also control undead for a short time if she was willing to expend significant effort, making them carry out simple tasks.

But not the undead aggregates. Even the simplest of tasks were incomprehensible to them. Their minds were filled with nothing but chaos, madness, and killing.

And such an undead aggregate, when it appeared behind Angel, chose not to explode immediately but to… whether it was to attack Angel or to snatch the Samsara Overture, there was something very wrong about it.

“Speaking of strange occurrences, those Infant Spirits earlier were also peculiar.” Sanders also remembered something odd, “With so many wizards around, why did that female undead with the Infant Spirits target you?”

Indeed, with so many other wizards nearby, who couldn’t kill the female undead quickly, it would have been most sensible for the Infant Spirits to go to them. Yet, they specifically targeted Angel, which was rather strange.

“What would have happened if I had turned around and the Infant Spirits saw me?” Angel asked.

“You would have been cursed. But the abilities of the Infant Spirits vary, so for the specifics of the curse, you’ll have to ask Isabel.” Sanders replied because those two Infant Spirits were now with Isabel.

Isabel, who had been pondering the matter of the undead aggregates, replied offhandedly upon hearing Sanders’s remark, “Bewilderment of the mind.”

Had Angel turned around at that time and made eye contact with those two Infant Spirits, it was highly likely that his mind would have been bewildered, or even worse, he might have come under the control of the Infant Spirits.

After receiving this information, Sanders raised his eyebrows.

This series of odd events must have a purpose.

The undead aggregate going after the Samsara Overture seems to have that as its goal. But if those two Infant Spirits were also targeting Angel, then their purpose is not just the Samsara Overture, but possibly Angel himself.

After sharing his speculation, Sanders said that Isabel suggested, “If it is as you say, no matter the intent, the Origin of Chaos has certainly set its sights on Angel, and she will definitely make another move.”

Isabel admonished Angel to be extremely careful.

But at that moment, Angel was reminded of another incident. When he had just come out of the Black Forest node, he had encountered a strange undead. At the time, he didn’t pay much attention, but now, connecting it with these other incidents, it also seemed to be off.

That undead also approached Angel, and only then did Angel notice her.

Angel had pulled out the Samsara Overture intent on shooting her, and at that moment, she immediately fled. This behavior pattern was actually very out of character for the undead because the undead wouldn’t know the consequences of the Samsara Overture before it was fired.

Her turning and fleeing indicated that she understood what the Samsara Overture could do to her.

Yet, at that time, Angel had just left the Black Forest node and hadn’t used the Samsara Overture. Even when he had helped Natasha, he had used the Samsara Overture, but memory, fear, and the flight response, this chain of thinking, is not something a regular undead could manage, right?

This caused Angel to think of another undead.

King Gumman’s thirteenth daughter.

Back then, when Angel used the White Light Bullet, turning King Gumman’s daughter into a Semi-Undead, her reaction was to flee upon facing the Samsara Overture.

This was similar to the previous situation.

But then, that undead didn’t have the face of King Gumman’s daughter, did she?
