Chapter 985 -341: Still Driven by Salary
Aleister was currently in the high skies.
After receiving a message from the small crow, Aleister planned to take a car to the Spirit Summoning Tower. But she unexpectedly discovered a huge advantage of her child—
—Leviathan could fly right after birth!
Though its carrying capacity was not high, its speed was quite fast!
So for this trip, Aleister couldn’t bring anyone along… She had to leave Selene and Honey Badger here. She reverted back to her own form, mounted the Night Fiend on Leviathan, and prepared to head to the Spirit Summoning Tower to fetch someone.
The situation at Alice’s end was clear—the other party had already planned to leave, but someone was unwilling to let go. Thus, they took the initiative to invite Aleister over, planning to use Pope Evas to exert some pressure.
Even Aleister herself didn’t expect that the bait she casually threw out would hook something so quickly.
She had never really expected Christina to truly do something for her, nor did she seriously put all her hopes on Christina to help her poach someone.
Evas, after all, came from a personnel background, knowing what qualities were needed for this line of work—cold hearted, ruthless, and cunning. Aleister knew, naturally, that with Christina’s simplicity, it would already be good if she wasn’t tricked.
The main reason Aleister recommended Christina to study Necromancy was actually because she truly had a talent in this area.
Of course, Aleister also knew… Christina’s Path of Balance level was definitely understated. As a civilian Alchemist, without a patron’s sponsorship, it was difficult for an Alchemist even to pass the promotion ceremony.
But conversely, if she truly had talent, she would have already found a patron. After all, this is Leipzig, the City of Knowledge.
Count Leipzig was able to put together this world-renowned Transcendent team thanks to his good reputation for being willing to give money and sponsor. A patron willing to spend money, who doesn’t need to be accredited for results, doesn’t care about the return rate, and doesn’t interfere with the direction of research, is an angel that scholars can hardly encounter.
And his funding couldn’t possibly cover all scholars, nor could he be the only rich individual in the entire city.
After all, Valentine I was a great Alchemist. In Star Antimony, Alchemy is a highly noble art.
You may look down on Necromancy, consider Demonology brutal and evil, even think that Transcendents on the Path of Love are insane, or believe that the Son of the Moon is just a foreign race parasitic on society… but Alchemy cannot accept any discrimination, studying Alchemy is absolutely politically correct.
In such an environment, those nobles whose own children had low levels of Alchemy skills, would basically support several Alchemy groups to show their high support for Alchemy. The academic level of these Alchemists, their scientific achievements, and their Path of Balance energy level, would become topics boasted about at noble banquets.
In a way, this also belongs to a kind of pokémon battle. Those talented children simply wouldn’t wait until graduation; they would have their personal information sold by mentors and be noticed by related rich people.

And Christina hasn’t even reached the second ability level… Whether it is due to lack of money or not, this definitely indicates a problem with her talent in the Path of Balance.
Conversely, in the Path of Dusk—being a resurrected individual, she naturally has an affinity with the Path of Dusk. At the very least, she could be promoted to the Third Level.
Extraordinary abilities undergo a qualitative change starting from the Fourth Level. Without talent, even if one maxed out on mystic knowledge and read everyday, one cannot max out the level, and hoping to chance upon a promotion would be impossible. Not to mention that advancing from three to four already could be life-threatening.
From this perspective, the Third Level is already the ceiling that mortals can reach. If equated to the academic circles on Earth, it’s roughly equivalent to being at the doctoral level—though it’s the lowest level doctorate, it would still be respected and called an expert; and wanting to advance further, is not something one can achieve just by effort alone.
Aleister’s willingness to point her to this clear path also had something to do with Alice. Although Christina needed Alice to bond her soul, Alice also similarly needed a body that could house the Dusk Power to inhabit outside.
Alice is not a wandering spirit but an Earthbound Spirit. Without an “anchor,” she cannot exist independently.
This is essentially like after children are married, their parents treat their child’s other half well, which is also hoping that the other parents will treat one’s own child similarly well. Coupled with Christina actually being quite unlucky, this somewhat stirred Aleister’s compassion.
…Unexpectedly, Christina really gave Aleister a big surprise.
On her very first day at the Spirit Summoning Tower, she poached two talents for Aleister.
Albert Lorey, and Aurora von Goethe.
Aleister was too familiar with the former… Born from a family of Necromancers, he was the inventor of the Armed Gargoyles. His great-grandfather was the second Black Chancellor of Star Antimony, the chief disciple of the original Black Chancellor.
In later versions, he is the professional mentor for Necromancers, and also the first Black Chancellor after Star Antimony’s reconstruction. He essentially acts as Star Antimony’s local protagonist, his plot status equivalent to that of the Pure White Saintess.
The latter is even more high-profile.
— Because her grandmother’s brother is currently an Apostle of the Gemini Mirror; and although she herself comes from nobility, her entire family was killed by the Son of the Moon, and she has dedicated her life to finding the murderer and seeking revenge.
The murderer nearly killed her as well, but she survived by hiding inside the stomach of a stitched corpse, desperately concealing her breathing and heartbeat.
After that, she did not dare to come out, surviving by gnawing on the flesh and blood of the corpse for necessary nutrition… until the stitched corpse rotted and stank, and she, nearly unconscious, was discovered by police investigating the scene.
She can truly be described as a character with a strong protagonist aura.
Latter, after accomplishing her revenge, she became a student of the “Insect Amber” Master. After the Amber Master transformed into the arrival vessel for the Spirit Amber Celestial Marshal, she became the only person in the world who mastered the art of damage-free resurrection.
In the original game storyline, Pope Aiwass preserved Yulia’s soul because he wanted to find this legendary master and resurrect Yulia.
As long as one could find him and provide most of the deceased’s soul, he would be willing to help perform the resurrection ritual. His resurrection technique could replenish missing souls; if one could provide a complete soul, he could even perform a damage-free resurrection.
But this is extremely difficult.
The “Insect Amber” Master is from the Empire, born in the fifteenth century, older than the whole lifespan of Star Antimony… He is the same age as the original Black Chancellor, and the two are considered friends.
He was inspired by the Path of Beauty, becoming the world’s first Amber Artisan, and has lived until now by harnessing the life-extension abilities of the Path of Dusk.
Now, he conceals his identity, living quietly in Star Antimony as an ordinary Preserver. Only Transcendents of the Fifth Power Level of the Path of Adaptation or the Path of Beauty can sense his existence.
Furthermore, the two talents that Christina has recruited—both of their mentors are Count Fernando Bruzvik—a Fifth Power Level Transcendent, the dean of Spirit Tower’s First College, also an honorary colonel in the Army Department and deputy minister of the Star Antimony Railways Department. He is one of Avalon’s most vigilant enemies.
It can be said that Count Bruzvik is currently the most influential and powerful person in the entire Spirit Tower, aside from the Black Chancellor!
And the contemporary Black Chancellor is his mentor!
Aleister vaguely remembers that he even became the next Black Chancellor – but unfortunately, he encountered the worst of times.
Before he could make a significant impact, he was personally killed by the Fallen Celestial Marshal. Aleister remembers him because he was the one used in the new version update to highlight the oppressive aura of the Fallen Celestial Marshal, serving as a combat power buffer for the game.
In terms of strength, social connections, political status, and misfortune, he is equal to Avalon’s Great Guardian—as if the loading CG for the previous version was the Great Guardian’s death charge, the next version’s loading CG protagonist was him.
Surrounded by various high-level undead, the air flickering with dense runes and arrays — and a black lightning easily pierced through a large stack of barriers, undead, and shields, then rushed forward to pierce his chest, producing a huge explosion sound that immediately made one want to turn down the volume of their headphones.
The next scene showed the thin body of Count Bruzvik being thrust high by the sword of the Fallen Celestial Marshal.
The subsequent parts Aleister isn’t too clear about, for he went into the game about then. If the internet speed was faster and with a solid-state drive, perhaps he could have attempted to save the vice-chancellor… maybe he could have entered before his chest was pierced.
Star Antimony’s future native protagonist, the sole inheritor of resurrection technique in the world, who can even be considered a formidable foe capable of assassination by the Fallen Celestial Marshal personally traveling a long distance to slay.
With these three masters and disciples, all high-value targets of the Spirit Tower have been completely monopolized and cleared out by Aleister!
“Still driven by salary, my brothers!”
Riding on this Shark-Dragon, Aleister lamented.
With enough salary, even fishing bait can be entirely automated…
…wait.
Speaking of automated fishing bait…
Aleister suddenly fell into deep thought.
…Could it be that the Lord of Scalefeather sees him in the same way?
