World-saving Plan: The Only Savior-Chapter 612 - 470
Chapter 612: 470
Half an hour later, in a storage room beneath the Wildfire Tavern.
"Your Excellency, this is where we temporarily store monster corpses."
Paul said as he approached a row of cabinets.
As he reached out and opened one of the cabinets, a cold draft spilled out.
He carefully placed the three giant rat corpses inside, one by one. The scene looked quite eerie, almost as though one had stepped into a morgue, with the refrigerated cabinets adding to the morbid atmosphere.
"Your Excellencies... there’s something I’ve been curious about for a long time, and I was wondering if I might ask..."
After he had finished, Paul turned around, looking somewhat nervous, as he asked.
"Go ahead."
"Well, it’s about the Mutant Beasts, where exactly do they come from... and what use does the organization have for collecting their corpses...?"
After saying this, he quickly added:
"That is, I’m just asking out of curiosity. If it’s not convenient for you to say, then never mind, I don’t really need to know..."
Hu Peng looked at him and thought that this guy’s curiosity was quite strong, but since it wasn’t a secret, there was no harm in telling him.
He immediately replied, "It seems you’re quite interested in these matters, but since you’re one of the Wildfire Tavern’s people it’s alright to tell you a bit. As for the origins of the Mutant Beasts, the organization is still investigating, which you can tell from the missions we have.
"One thing we can confirm is that these creatures have definitely been artificially created, as the traces of genetic modification are too evident. This is the finding given by the professional research personnel within the organization."
Hu Peng paused, amused by the look of someone intently listening to what seemed like classified information.
Yet his expression remained unchanged, serious as he continued:
"As for the use of these corpses, that involves some internal matters of the organization which you do not need to know at this moment."
"What I can tell you is that they are very important to our related research and possess great value in the hands of the organization, so when you are storing them, you must be very careful and take good care of your own safety as well."
His words excited Paul, giving him the sense that he was privy to a significant secret.
However, this excitement was only at the same level as when he had first met ’X’, still fresh and exhilarating.
If he calmed down and thought about it, he would realize that despite Hu Peng’s extensive explanation, most of it was just the obvious stuff that he could have guessed on his own.
The truly crucial information wasn’t divulged at all.
"Thank you for your trust, Your Excellencies. Rest assured, I will work diligently and protect the organization’s assets with my life!"
Paul said with conviction.
Hu Peng and Xun You just smiled, naturally not taking his declaration too seriously.
"Alright, we’ve got a basic understanding here. Where is Weiss? He requested us to come today, claiming there was important information to share. Why hasn’t he appeared yet?"
Xun You asked, puzzled.
No sooner had he finished speaking than someone burst through the entrance door of the basement. As the group turned to look, it was as if speaking of Cao Cao and Cao Cao arrives; the newcomer was none other than the former member of the Wildfire Team, now the ostensible owner of the Wildfire Tavern—Weiss.
Weiss was leaning against the door frame, still catching his breath from what appeared to be a strenuous activity.
"Hey, Cheng Huang, Huo Dou, so you’re here..."
He said in not-so-fluent Chinese:
"I’m terribly sorry for being late. I never expected to get stuck in a traffic jam on Ero’s streets; who would have guessed there would be so many cars today!"
Xun You chuckled, "It’s almost winter; this is peak season for tropical beach tourism, so it’s normal for there to be more people. Weiss, you were in such a hurry to get us here, what’s the matter?"
"Oh, it’s like this—I found something strange. I can’t make out what it is, but I think you might be interested in it."
...
Ten minutes later, in an office on the third floor of the tavern.
Hu Peng was crouched on the floor, scrutinizing a small box placed on the coffee table in front of him. Inside the box was a bizarre-looking fragment.
The fragment resembled a piece that had fallen off a building, conical in shape with a black core, adorned with red lines.
"There are Dark Energy Fluctuations. Weiss, where did you find this?"
Hu Peng turned his head to look at Weiss.
"It was provided by a Solo Hunter named Sizar, who also delivered a Mutant Snake corpse. According to him, he spotted this piece among the scales of the snake."
"Between the scales? How big was this snake?"
"Smaller than the one we encountered last time but uglier. It could have easily swallowed me whole without an issue."
"You said the guy is a Solo Hunter?"
"Yes," Weiss shrugged, "Honestly, although Sizar is a bit of a loner, his strength is undeniable. But I’m surprised he managed to take down a beast of this Level on his own."
"And the Mutant Snake’s corpse? Did you ask him where he encountered the snake?"
"The corpse is now stored in a warehouse. As for the location of the snake’s appearance, we investigated, but nothing unusual was discovered."
