This was a dark-red centipede, over four meters long. Its body was thicker than a grown man’s waist with hundreds of large legs continuously moving across the ground. Just the sight of these legs was enough to dazzle one. From the centipede’s head, a pair of fist-sized compound eyes protruded, and the bulging eyes reflected countless fragments of light. Near the mouth, a pair of huge jaw feet resembled powerful steel pincers. The hollow carapace around these jaws was also dark red. It got brighter towards the sharp ends of the jaws, which were vivid like fresh blood.
The huge centipede was advancing fast, its extraordinary momentum aimed straight at the gate. It seemed intent on breaking their defence line with its speed and weight.
To make way for the centipede, the magical beasts at the gate temporarily halted their attack, offering a brief respite to Pannis. And yet, Pannis remained calm, watching as it approached ever faster and ever closer. In the blink of an eye, it traversed the few dozen meters that separated them. And just as it was seven or eight meters from the gate, Pannis suddenly broke into a gentle smile, showing the incoming centipede the utmost friendliness. Despite this cordial smile, Pannis didn’t move. He merely leisurely stepped back.
The gate quickly closed. The pressure sensors had failed to detect anything, and naturally controlled the gate to close automatically.
With a loud "BAM", the giant centipede slammed its tremendous weight into the heavy metal gate. But one had to admire the goblins’ smelting technology. The alloy gate of unknown composition had extraordinary strength, enough to survive such a powerful blow virtually unscathed, barely even deforming, save for a slight indentation at the point of impact.
Feeling the pressure, the gate opened again. The giant centipede had lost its intimidating aura. One of its compound eyes had been crushed, green insect fluid was splattered across the ground in front of the gate, and its two formidable jaw feet had snapped off. One was completely gone while the other had spiked a Silver Rank magical beast. After it was pierced by the broken jaw foot, the formidable looking beast gave off a mournful cry, fell limp, spasmed for a bit, and then fell silent forever.
After the impact, the giant centipede was sprawled on the ground, completely stunned.
"Tsk tsk, that must have hurt." Pannis, with movements synchronized with the gate closing, swiftly pulled out several parts from different pockets on his body and speedily assembled them. Within a few seconds, a Crystal gun over a meter long occupied his hands. The black mouth of the gun barrel and the frosty barrel was the first thing appearing in the slowly opening door.
The thick barrel of the gun was already forced down the throat of the stunned centipede by the time the door was halfway open. The centipede, which was quite helpless, didn’t even know what had been shoved into its mouth before it felt the energy of a Crystal converging in front of it.
"Bang, bang, bang", the gunshots were ear-piercing. Ten shots each of Energy Bullets and physical bullets shot into the centipede’s mouth like raindrops, easily tearing apart its soft internal organs and digestive tract. A jet of dark green fluid sprouted again as the stunned centipede finally felt the intense pain and began to squirm violently.
The pain drove the centipede to rear up on its forelegs, shaking segment by segment as though it was going to spew something from its body. As if unaffected, Pannis casually threw away the Crystal gun, the barrel of which was scorching hot and nearly wrecked. Seeing the centipede’s actions, he maintained his composure, calmly taking out two Tael Crystals from his pocket and a peculiar tool. He focused on fiddling with the Crystals for a few seconds before glancing up again just before the centipede could spew anything. He revealed a mysterious smile and tossed one of the Crystals high into the air. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
The Crystal traced a curve in the air, precisely landing in the wide-open mouth of the centipede. About to puke, the centipede felt a foreign object in its mouth and reflexively swallowed, devouring the Crystal.
Pannis nonchalantly clapped his hands, "Well, you see, even though I can’t perform a successful Crystal Synthesis, at least I can fail at it, right? The first axiom of Crystal Synthesis is, once it fails, it will definitely explode."
Before he finished speaking, a muffled noise came from the centipede’s body. Several segments of its body near the head weirdly distended and then shrank back to their normal size. A large amount of stinky dark green liquid mixed with a lot of tender flesh spewed out like a fountain from the centipede’s mouth which was twisted to its maximum, falling densely to the ground like raindrops.
An explosion of a Tael Crystal would not break through the hard shell of a Gold Rank centipede if detonated from outside. However, an explosion from the inside easily destroyed all its body tissues in the first few segments of its body, effectively snuffing out the life of the giant centipede.
The centipede, having lost its head and some parts of its body, began to instinctively squirm and struggle. Its long body scraped back and forth along the ground like a whip, causing the other magical beasts in the vicinity to momentarily clear the entrance, avoiding unintended harm from the flailing body.
"Well done." Lina, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly spoke. "I’m prepared. How many are left?"
"Forty-six, oh, no, forty-five. It accidentally killed one of its own." Pannis grinned and turned to look at Lina, then jumped in surprise.
Lina was still Lina, but she had completely changed.
Pannis looked at Lina in astonishment. His surprise was not from Lina’s glamorous new look, nor because the divine light that normally covered her hands now enveloped her entire body. Rather, what truly astonished him was the unique scent emanating from her, a blend of blood and killing intent. Lina’s figure was still as delicate as any spellcaster, but at that moment, her slender limbs seemed to be on the verge of unleashing a destructive force.
Their gazes met.
Pannis narrowed his eyes, as if he were looking at a beast teetering on the edge of reason and madness amidst a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood, its bloodthirsty eyes scanning its prey.
"Interesting," Even Pannis felt a hint of danger from Lina. It was fleeting, but with Pannis’s perception, he was able to detect it immediately, indicating that for a moment there, Lina had felt an impulse to kill him. "This time, is it a berserker on the verge of frenzy?"
"Bloody Lady, Berserker, you can just call me Blood Girl." Lina stared at Pannis with her slightly reddish eyes, a cold smile on her face. "You seem to be an interesting person. We should meet more often if we get the chance."
"Ssshh." Pannis sighed deeply, saying, "A Berserker, how troublesome."
Berserker is an advanced profession for warriors. It’s an extremely rare occupation, even rarer than Magic Swordsman. After a long period of frenzy, a Berserker will enter a near-death state and fall into a state of perpetual madness. Only those who survive this near-death state are considered to have successfully advanced. Among the successful advancements, some with strong willpower overcome their frenzied instincts and ultimately regain their humanity, becoming cool-headed Berserkers who are no longer affected by the frenzy state, while others, lacking strong will, become animal-like Berserkers completely dominated by their instincts. There are also an extremely small number of Berserkers who are naturally bloodthirsty and combative — whether in a frenzy or not makes no difference to them, and the only reason they retain their sanity is to enjoy the pleasure of combat. These people only need to survive the near-death period before advancing, as permanent madness doesn’t concern them — they’re already mad, impossible to go mad once more.
This last, very small group of madmen are known as "Berserkers". They toss aside their cumbersome weapons and armor, even most of their clothing, and charge near-naked onto the battlefield, using their fists, limbs, and even teeth to attack the enemy, bathing in fresh blood and death, whether their own or their enemies’.
Ignoring Pannis’s struggles, Lina -- or Bloody Lady -- let out a strange, low chuckle, and gave a light shake of her body. With the motion, continuous crisp sounds began to pop from her joints, ringing out in harmony.
"The body is too weak. Even using the Sacred Power to augment my entire body, I can only muster the strength of an Upper Gold Rank." Lina regretfully shook her head, flexing her limbs. "I have five minutes of battle time. I’ll kill as many enemies as I can. After five minutes, you’re up."
"Please go ahead." Pannis let out a bitter laugh and cleared the entrance, trying his best not to upset this potential ticking time bomb.
Lina, or rather Bloody Lady, seemed to have grown used to people’s fearful and repulsive gazes or perhaps, in her eyes, she didn’t even see those weak and powerless looks of disgust. Looking at the gradually calmed entrance and the magical beasts once again stirring near the entrance, she ran her tongue over her blood-red lips, her frenzied, murderous reddened eyes emitting a dazed look resembling that of climax, letting out an excited roar. Suddenly, her body shot out like an arrow, flying straight out of the entrance.
