What not to expect: Magic to follow science and reality based on quantum mechanics. There will be some skills that will have some relation to quantum mechanics in the much later books of the story, but definitely not at the start, and not too deeply related. Do not expect magic to follow laws of science. The world that the main character is in prior to the Reset is not a modern world. It is more similar to a fantasy world with swords and sorcery in terms of the morals and ethics of the people just with modern technology. Furthermore, Alexia is twenty years old. People from a technologically advanced society are thrown into a world where they can't maintain their tech. They are forced to rely on what the world provides where they have to make do with the limited resources they have and what little of their old technology is still working. Their gene manipulation allows them to have something akin to superpowers, but that doesn't help much against the monsters of their new world. Not sure yet whether sufficiently advanced technology will be discovered later on to count as magic.It turns more political between the various clans later on.
