Chapter 51: Unconscious

Riven stood over the golem. He raised his sword, and in one swift move, he cut off the head of the golem.

He saw several notifications pop up, but he didn’t pay attention to them. He turned, looking at his brother that lay there, weak and unmoving.

He sheathed his sword and walked toward Noel, stood above him and pulled out the healing potion. He slowly fed his brother the potion.

After feeding Noel the potion, he helped him up. He noticed that the golem had dropped a red crystal like that goblin before, so he picked it up.

Immediately he picked it up and started helping Noel. The twenty seconds ran out, and all his pain came flooding in like a tsunami.

He felt like his entire body had shattered. His eyes started getting hazy, but he knew that he couldn’t stop now, or no one would find them until they died. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

He bit his tongue, sending a sharp pain to his mind and started pushing himself. Every step was heavy, as he bore not just his weight, but that of his brother too.

He dragged his feet along the ground, pushing himself slowly. His blood stained the floor with every step, his body screamed at him to stop.

But every time that he wanted to just collapse, he bit into his tongue again and kept pushing. He hoped that when they made it out of the dark cave, he would be able to see someone that would help them.

But fate was messed up, and he didn’t see a single adventurer. He kept pushing on his own, tears dripping from his eyes as he walked. Finally, he made it out of the dungeon.

The skies were pitch black. The warm glow of camp flames around the dungeon filled his eyes. He saw people sitting, and as if it was a cue, his body shut down. He and his brother fell to the ground, both unconscious.

’I made it.’ His final thoughts as everything went black.

"How is he doing?" A voice reached Riven’s ears in his unconscious state.

"He is much better. We used the best healing potions and magic that we can find, but the damage he suffered is something that a low-level healing potion can’t fully handle," a voice replied.

"Will he be waking up soon?" the first voice asked.

"Yes, definitely. We can hope for that very soon," the second voice replied.

"Good, go and ensure his brother is recovering fine," the first said.

Riven heard footsteps departing from him.

’Was that my father? Urghh, my body aches.’

He tried to move his body. He got a little reaction from his fingers and toes. He tried again, and this time his body responded more.

He slowly opened his eyes. The soft bright light of the day seeping through the windows poured on him. It was not harsh, but warm and peaceful.

Immediately after opening his eyes, his gaze landed on a figure seated next to his bed, watching him intently. He recognized that face even though all he could see was blurs.

"Amber, why are you staring at me like that?" he asked. His chest ached as he spoke every word, but it was something he could ignore.

"You are awake!" she said in surprise and shock.

"Huh? Didn’t you see my eyes opening?" he asked. He looked around slowly, trying to move his head. He was in his own room, on his own bed.

"You worried me, brother," she said, pouting angrily. "Father said you were found outside a dungeon, you and brother Noel. Both of you were beaten up really badly," she said, folding her arms.

"Yeah, I guess that’s what happened," Riven said.

"What do you mean you guess that’s what happened? What happened to both of you inside the dungeon? Noel told father, but they don’t want to tell me," she said, her expression pissed.

"You mean Noel has woken up? I guess the potion helped. Sorry Amber, if father didn’t want you to know, then it’s probably for the best I don’t tell you," Riven said.

"Huh?" Her face changed into a very pissed expression and she started throwing her hands on his body.

Pain shot through all of his body immediately. "Argh, ouch ouch, Amber please stop. I’ll tell you after I speak with father," he said.

She stopped, still pouting, but she agreed to it.

"Amber, how long was I out for?"

"Uhm, three days. Noel was out for two days," she said.

"Three days? Was I beaten up that badly?" he asked.

"Yes, you were." His father’s voice suddenly sounded. They both turned and saw him standing inside the room. Riven didn’t even notice when he entered.

"The healer that took care of you said if they hadn’t found you at the time that they did, you would have died from many different things," he said, and then walked closer to the bed.

"Amber, give your brother and I some time to talk."

Amber immediately nodded and left the room for the both of them. His father took a seat on the chair. He folded his arms and spoke.

"I know you just woke up a few minutes ago, but I need to speak to you before I leave for the dungeons.

Noel told me everything that happened, and what led to you guys being in that state," his father said.

’Everything? Did Noel also tell him about the crazy man?’ Riven wondered.

"You looked out for your brother and fought for him, and dragged him to safety. Facing and killing a golem is no easy task. You both were faced with death and you survived.

As a father and as the baron, I couldn’t be more proud of you two. And beyond that, you two found a mana crystal mine connected to the dungeon. High-quality crystals.

It’s wise to say that your pain and your sacrifice brought something that I as your father am undeniably proud of."
