Chapter 65: Battling the wolf

Riven saw the glowing eyes and the bone-chilling bloodlust. He slowly got up on his feet and took a few steps back until his back pressed against the cold walls of the room.

His hands slid across the wall searching for the door, but he found nothing at all. There was no door, only the cold stone walls.

He looked around, trying to find Noel, but there was no one there. He was alone.

’Did we get separated? This isn’t good.’ He had known that when that notification came up, there was surely going to be an issue, but he had no idea it would be something this crazy.

As he watched the red eyes, a deep growl came from it, so deep that it caused the wall of the room to tremble.

Without hesitation, Riven pulled out his sword and got into a stance, his eyes locked on the eyes and his feet ready to move. His life was on the line here, and he knew that if he didn’t give it his all, he would become dinner for whatever was in there.

The figure in the darkness finally stood up, and as it did, a stronger wave of bloodlust and killing intent blasted off it, suffocating Riven.

His mind immediately started sending him images of him dead in gruesome, terrifying manners, like being mangled to death, having his head chopped off, and more.

His heart rate spiked as he saw all of this. The images kept shooting into his head regardless of how he tried to concentrate. Nothing was working for him, the images of his death kept on playing and playing until it started making him tremble.

The creature in the dark seemed to know what it had done, and it knew the right time to attack. And so, it slowly approached, coming out of the shadows.

And there it was, a two-horned wolf standing at over two meters tall. Its grey fur was thick and stuck out like spikes. Its blood-red eyes made it look like a demon from the depths of hell.

Riven looked at the beast, and his hands trembled subconsciously. He had no control over it. He looked down at his hands and tried to stop it, but his hands kept trembling.

’What’s this feeling? It’s like this wolf is in my head. I can’t seem to get it all out. How will I fight like this? How will I manage to win?’ Riven asked, but the wolf was already approaching. His time was running out.

Seeing that his worries and fears were aiding the effect of whatever the wolf was doing, he took a deep breath and tried to calm down. The oxygen flowed through his body, his heart rate dropped a little, and he could finally move the images of death aside in his mind.

His eyes closed into slits, he gripped the sword tighter, and before the wolf could take another step, he dashed.

He ran at top speed, his eyes already darting around the room for the perfect plan and angle to use.

He finally decided to go from the front and probe the wolf. He leaped into the air and slashed from above. His sword came down like a meteor, targeted right at the head, but right before the sword hit, the wolf moved.

Its speed so blinding that Riven couldn’t follow. He landed on the ground and spun around, only to see a paw about to slam into him. He immediately used his sword to block the attack, but he lacked footing and was tossed so hard he slammed into a wall and coughed blood.

The wolf charged in again and leaped into the world, coming down with its mouth opening for a finishing bite. Riven rolled out of the way quickly. He got on his feet and retreated more.

He stood, looking at the wolf. He was already huffing and puffing from the short exchange. He gritted his teeth and charged in again.

"Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!" he yelled. Jumped, he kicked the wall all of a sudden and changed his direction, instantly confusing the wolf. He landed with his right leg stretched back and immediately kicked the ground to use as propulsion.

He lifted off the ground and slashed down. The wolf moved in reaction, managing to block the sword with its claws, and then, using the second paw, it slammed into Riven and sent him flying again.

Riven spun in the air and landed without any injury. His gaze locked with the wolf immediately. He was already making out his next attack, but he had forgotten something crucial.

Monsters like this had their own special abilities. The golem was the rocks it shot, and as for this wolf, it was something more terrifying.

The wolf suddenly howled, and lightning began crackling all over its body, striking the ground and walls with massive bolts. The wolf opened its mouth and the lightning all gathered in front of the mouth.

The wolf shot a massive ball of lightning, its blue glow filled the entire room. Riven dodged the attack, and the lightning slammed on the wall behind him. A massive explosion followed. The bolts shot in all directions, one headed right for Riven while he was mid-air.

Riven used his sword to block the attack. The force pushed him harder than any attack had done before. He hit the wall and broke some ribs from the impact.

His sight immediately became hazy. He looked up at the wolf as he lay on the ground, and the wolf had already charged a second attack and fired at him.

He passed off the ground, grabbed his sword, jumped, and rolled. The attack hit the wall and the same explosion happened. This time, he spun around quick and swung his sword, parrying the lightning bolt as best as he could. Still, the force dislocated his shoulder bone.

Gritting his teeth, he continued running until he was far from the range of the lightning. He didn’t have the time to worry about his broken arm as the wolf was already charging again.
