Chapter 66: The book

Riven picked his sword up with his left hand and used Flame Arc to attack. The arc hit the wolf point blank, but it lacked the power to seriously injure it, though it was enough to buy him some time to retreat.

He put some distance between them and then grabbed his shoulder. He didn’t know anything about resetting bones, but he decided to do it either way.

He grabbed the hand and yanked it forward, and luckily for him, it popped into the right spot after a huge shot of pain ran through his entire body.

He gritted his teeth through the pain and charged at the wolf. The wolf leaped into the world and swung now at him. Riven parried the paw, this time parrying properly.

He rolled and for you again and then used Flame Blast on the wolf. The flame slammed into the back of the wolf, the explosion followed, and Riven felt that it would be the attack that actually injured the wolf.

But the wolf came out of the explosion unharmed, barely scratched. Riven looked in disbelief. This was the first time that any creature had bested the Flame Blast.

Looking closer, Riven discovered that the fur of the wolf was a bit shiny after the attack, but then it turned back to normal.

"It has a defense?" Riven muttered the question. He looked up at the wolf, their eyes locked in a fierce gaze.

Riven took a deep breath and then used mana to infuse the armor. The armor gave out a soft glow, buffing up his defense. He charged in again and leaped into the air. The wolf looked up at him and used the lightning attack again.

Riven was now midair and he had time to face the attack, but he was already ready for it. He cast his Flame Wall midair just before the lightning hit.

The lightning slammed into the Flame Wall. It tore through the wall but lost most of its energy, and Riven could block the rest with his sword. He landed on the neck of the wolf and went for a stab, but the wolf’s instincts were sharp. It immediately generated lightning all over its body.

Riven jumped off the body, but not before using Flame Blade again. He fired one that slammed into the body of the wolf and exploded again without any result.

He thought he would land far enough to think about his best attack, but the wolf seemed fed up with Riven and so it moved, running at top speed.

Riven’s eyes could not follow the wolf. It vanished right before his eyes, and when he felt that bloodlust again, the wolf was already behind him. It swung another lightning-coated paw and hit Riven right in the chest. frёewebηovel.cѳm

The armor took the damage without any issues of major damage, but the force behind the attack sent him flying into a wall. He hit the wall and before his body could hit the ground, the wolf slammed into him with its body.

The impact knocked him out for a second, and he woke up on the ground, only to see the wolf staring at him, lightning in its mouth at a point-blank range for attack.

BOOOOOM

The lightning hit Riven point blank in the chest. The armor tried its best to block the majority of the attack, but it was too much for it. The mana barrier around it shattered, and the full force slammed Riven deep into the wall. His entire body print was formed.

He coughed up blood, his gaze fuzzy, his consciousness waning every second that passed. The wolf took a step back and opened its mouth, ready to end this.

But Riven was not out of options. The one loved by chaos was a two-edged sword that granted him unlimited power for twenty seconds in a near-death experience, and now was that time.

His body immediately burst with energy. He shot out of the wall with a full-powered punch ready and hit the daylight out of the wolf.

The wolf flew through the air and slammed into the ground. It got up immediately and growled at Riven.

"I have twenty seconds to make you wish you never met me," Riven said and took his sword. He charged in, his body turned into a blur. The wolf couldn’t follow his movements.

He got behind the wolf and then used Flame Blast. The flames slammed into the wolf, this time far more powerful. It broke through the defense and caused damage to the wolf.

The wolf growled in pain and tried to attack, but Riven had vanished again. He made his way to the wolf’s front and went for the neck. He had little time in this state, so he needed to end the wolf before his time ran out.

But as his blade reached the wolf, it suddenly exploded with the biggest amount of lightning that Riven had seen before, and even in his current state, the lightning managed to push him back.

The entire room was filled with blue lightning striking every part of the room. The bolts didn’t harm Riven in this state that he was in, but they managed to push him back every time that they hit him.

He kept pushing as fast as he could, but this was lightning. He couldn’t beat the speed, especially when it was all over the place. Yet he kept trying, pushing, and when he finally pushed through and his sword was headed for the neck of the wolf, the twenty seconds elapsed and his body was filled with heart-wrenching pain.

"Arghhhhhh!" he cried out as bolts of lightning struck all over his body. He fell to the ground, unmoving. He had wasted his opportunity, the only chance that he had to kill the wolf, and he allowed it to go to waste.

He tried to push himself up, but more bolts of lightning struck his back, and everything went black. He thought he had fainted, but instead, he saw the book floating in front of him. It had been a while since he did anything with the book.
