An Owl's Rise-Chapter 464 - Evelyn’s All
Laying battered and broken on the ground, Evelyn heard a massive explosion from outside of the protective dome of ice around her.
Unfortunately, she could not tell how her companions were doing. The noise of battle was almost deafening, but it was impossible for her to pick up any details.
'Come on. I just need one arm to move.'
Struggling with all her might, Evelyn tried to get a healing potion close enough to her mouth to drink the contents.
Her shattered bones and torn muscles refused to obey her commands. Every millimeter she moved any of her limbs was a monumental task that sent waves of intense pain shooting through her.
She was so focused on healing herself, that she did not notice Bylur's presence until he placed a hand on her back.
"That's enough Evelyn. You'll only cause more damage to yourself if you continue to struggle like that. Just give me a few moments and I'll heal you."
As Bylur said this, Evelyn saw a soft light envelope her. Instantly a soothing feeling permeated her body, and the hellish pain she was in began to abate.
After evolving into a tyrant beast, Bylur's life magic had become incredibly potent, and with just a bit of time and effort, he was able to fix severe wounds like what Evelyn currently had.
When she was finally able to move around on her own a bit, she found that Bylur had taken out a stamina restoration potion and was holding it in front of her.
"Take that and use some of your own recover items to bring yourself back up into fighting shape. I wish I could stay to fully heal you, but the others are still fighting and need my help." Bylur said apologetically.
Evelyn waved to assuage his worries and beckoned him to leave.
He looked reluctant to do so, but knew it was important that he did.
The dome of ice around Evelyn then opened up and Bylur flew out to join Lucia, Rehni, and Aralee in combating the Deamhain Sect Executive.
"Okay. Time to get serious."
Knowing that her friends could only hold off the man that had attacked them for so long, Evelyn took out a dozen of the most powerful alchemical items in her possession.
All of them had required rare materials she had a limited supply of or had already fully exhausted, but now was not the time to be stingy.
First, she drank a regeneration potion that had far greater effects than a normal healing one.
It did come with the downside of exhausting her stamina, but she counteracted this by drinking the potion Bylur had offered to her along with another of her own.
Once she felt that her body had fully put itself back together, she stared shoving pills into her mouth, applying salves to her four limbs, and drank enough potions to make her look slightly bloated.
"Now I'll show that asshole how strong an alchemist can get with a little prep time." Evelyn growled, her body coursing with immense power now that she had applied all manner of buffs to herself.
However, as she was about to leave the dome of ice, she stopped for just a moment. She did have another item that could bolster her power, but she was hesitant to use it.
"No point in holding anything back."
From out of her storage magic tool, Evelyn pulled out the spear made of scarlet metal she had acquired after slaying the woman's whose magic core she used in her evolution.
Thanks to Lucia's help, she had found that this magic weapon was something truly special.
A powerful treasure crafted long ago by the first leader of the Ultak Empire just before his ascension to the next realm.
Normally someone at Evelyn's level would be unable to wield its full powers, however, her heavenly flame held an inherent otherworldly strength that could awaken the weapon.
"Aionia Estia."
Evelyn called out the name of the weapon while wreathing it in crimson fire.
Immediately the spear responded to her will and it started to change form.
Several hidden runes inscribed on the shaft glowed brightly.
After that, the spear head started to elongate until it was practically the length of a short sword and had taken on an appearance akin to a star.
Finally, the butt of the spear extended out into a sharp point to give the weapon another means of attack.
"I'm really glad that woman could not awaken this thing's true power. Otherwise, I really would have been in trouble back then."
Evelyn could feel her heavenly flame strengthening as it coiled around Aionia Estia. This spear not only held its own innate magic, but also could strengthen and other fire that came in contact with it.
Right now, it was fair to say that Evelyn was as powerful as she could possibly be. Every last trump card she had to play had been used. All that was left to do was see if it would prove enough.
With a quick wave of her hand the protective dome of ice around her instantly evaporated.
Immediately her eyes darted around to take in the state of the battle.
She could see that the land was scarred by multiply powerful attacks from her companions and their opponent.
Following the trail of devastation, she soon caught sight of a bright light which was followed by a thunderous boom.
A flash of movement caught her attention and an instant later she saw Lucia in her full wolf form skidding across the ground and leaving a deep trench in her wake. Even with Bylur, Rehni, and Aralee's assistance, it seemed that she was unable to contend with the Deamhain Sect Executive.
Walking from out of a large cloud of dust whipped up from the latest clash was the man that had stopped Evelyn and her companions.
He now had a few cuts and bruises on his body, and his left hand was noticeably burned from having been used to block Lucia's earlier surprise attack.
Still, for someone at his level, those could hardly be considered injuries.
Evelyn followed his gaze, thinking he would have his attention mostly on Lucia as she was the biggest threat. Expect, his eyes were clearly locked on Aralee hovering in the sky above with Bylur and Rehni.
It was impossible for Evelyn to truly decipher what the man's fascination with Aralee was, but the way he was looking at her younger sister set off an even more primal rage in Evelyn.
'I need to be faster. So much so that even he can't respond.' Evelyn thought, her magic energy expanding within her.
Flames and wind wrapped around her legs and wings, while the force of gravity around her twisted to her will.
Before she had not had the opportunity to fully hone her magic. Now that she did, though, she could utilize all three of her affinities to launch herself in a unbelievable burst of speed and power.

The strain on her body caused her recently mended bones and muscles to creak, and the immense concentration of controlling such powerful magic caused her head to feel like someone was hammering away at the inside of it.
She had felt this several times in the past. It was a warning that she had exceeded her limits. That her own magic was destroying her.
Nevertheless, Evelyn ignored all of the warnings her body and mind were sending her. To have any chance against someone so much higher ranked than her, this was the bare minimum necessary.
