Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 256: Time Was Up
Chapter 256: Time Was Up
"Let me go," snarled Désiré, his voice low and harsh, like a beast that had spotted his prey. "Now."
Salvatore paused for a second, but with encouragement from Envy, he eventually let go of his friend and brother. He never had hard feelings when it came to Max leaving them. He was always the softest of the seven of them, and it made sense that he couldn’t handle everything.
Hell, Max probably would have had a meltdown over anything when the world ended. He wasn’t good with changes in his life, and the whole apocalypse thing was a big one.
But saying that he couldn’t wait for their girl to die? Yeah, Envy was right. Max had made his bed, and now it was time to die.
"Réne made the voice go away?" purred Désiré, his eyes glowing gold as he stalked toward Max. "You sure about that?"
"That is what he said," sputtered Max, a look of betrayal on his face as he saw the anger on Désiré’s. "And it’s true. The moment I left your camp, the voice disappeared."
"Probably because the voice found someone more worthy," chuckled Beau, looking at his nails. "And I definitely ain’t complainin’."
Max looked around at the others, his eyes frantically searching for an ally amongst the Sins. "We had talked all our lives about hating the voices and wanting them gone. Why have you all of a sudden changed your mind?"
His eyes continued to scan everyone until they landed on Hattie. Luca stiffened as he saw the rage on Max’s face as he stepped toward his woman. "It’s all your fault," hissed Max as he pointed a finger at Hattie. "You have to be a demon or something to be able to enchant the guys as much as you have."
"Or something," replied Hattie, raising a single, perfect eyebrow. Dimitri stepped up behind her, the hammer still in his hand, and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Pointing the hammer, still dripping with blood, flesh, matter, and hair, at Max, he smiled brightly.
"You are what is wrong with the world," grunted Dimitri, but it was clearly Wrath who was speaking. "You couldn’t be happy with what you had; you wanted more. You wanted all of us, just for yourself. Or did you really think we didn’t see the looks you were giving us?"
Once again, Max turned pale as he now looked at Luca with panic in his eyes. "It wasn’t like that! I only considered you like my brothers."
"But you wanted a more permanent type of family, didn’t you?" demanded Dante, stepping forward. "One that would never look at anyone else but you?"
"I understand," sighed Beau, closing his eyes for a minute before his eyes shone orange. "You wanted more, and that was why I chose you in the first place. But you couldn’t see past what was already in your head." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"Do I even want to know?" sighed Chang Xuefeng, looking up into the night sky.
"Probably not," grunted Ronan, his eyes closed like he didn’t want to even look at what was going on in front of him. However, he was much too tense to be sleeping. "I don’t think any of us want to know."
"Please," begged Max, dropping to his knees in front of Luca. "Please, just come back to me, come back to Réne and we can be like how we were as a kid."
"And what about Hattie?" asked Envy, his head cocked to the side.
Too fast for anyone to react, Max pulled out a gun from the small of his back and shot Hattie point-blank in her head. "There, now she isn’t a factor anymore. You can come home now."

Death wasn’t what I had expected. Then again, with all the times that I thought about my death, I never actually wanted it.
I could feel the white-hot bullet entering through the soft spot between my eyebrows. I felt my skull splinter apart, unable to withstand the pressure of the projectile as it continued on its path of destruction.
I even felt it tearing through my brain before hitting the back of my skull and blowing a fist-sized hole as it finally got its freedom.
"Huh," I grunted to myself, shaking my head. "I thought I wouldn’t have had to feel that pain. Isn’t the whole point of death not to feel pain? Cause if this is the afterlife, I want a refund. I was promised sleep and pain-free."
"Hattie, Hattie, Princess, can you hear me?" begged a voice over top of my head. Opening my eyes that I hadn’t realized that I had closed, I stared up at Chang Xuefeng.
"Daddy, are you in Hell with me?" I asked, closing my eyes again as I felt my skull starting to heal itself.
"Hell was destroyed, remember? When Luci died and all the demons escaped, it destroyed the whole realm. There is no Hell," grunted Chang Xuefeng as he gently lifted me up. I could feel his fingers trembling against my skin as he touched me.
"Well, if this is Heaven, then I am demanding a refund. It definitely doesn’t live up to its promises," I moaned as my head seemed to explode all over again as my wound got smaller and smaller.
"It’s not Heaven, either. You are still on Earth. We are still at the carnival..."
"And you are still alive," murmured Dante as he pressed his palm against my cheek. "How are you still alive?"
I bit back the chuckle that was threatening to come out as my eyes filled with tears. Well, this answered my question as to whether or not I could be killed now that I was the one and only Lucifer.
The answer was: while it might hurt like a bitch, I couldn’t die.
Sweet.
I think.
"I remember someone telling me a little while ago that the Devil was scared of him; that’s why he was kicked out of Hell. I think it’s the same for me. I must terrify the Devil," I snickered. The pain was finally dissipating, and my head was back to normal.
"You terrify everyone," assured Luca as he came to my other side, looking at me over Chang Xuefeng’s shoulder. "But let’s keep the dying to a minimum, okay? I don’t think we can handle a second time around."
Nodding my head, I let the guys help me to my feet just as a monstrous voice rang from somewhere off-side. "Why the fuck as we still here? We have a schedule to keep! Anyone still inside the carnival is trapped for all times!"
