Chapter 63: Mr Chen is famous

The four people who had started to prepare stronger spells to help Alex suddenly stopped what they were doing, all of them had stunned expressions on their faces as they stared at Alex and the huge ant.

After dodging the ant, they saw Alex glance over briefly before suddenly stretching one of his hands toward the ant. The next moment, silver white stars appeared behind him before forming into a star pattern at an incredibly fast speed.

At the same time that Alex’s star pattern formed, the ant had stabilised itself and jumped at Alex again, but it suddenly stopped in mid-air as if it had been caught by something. It started to let out shattering sounds from its metal-like mandibles while struggling to break free. However, it didn’t manage to break free from whatever had caught it.

Rather, it exploded.

Bang!

Pieces of its solid armour, soft flesh, and blood exploded in the air and were sent flying in every direction.

Mia "..."

Joan "..."

Selena "..."

Phil "..."

The four of them were stunned by what they had just watched. Alex had killed the ant that would have taken them two to three spells at the Adept rank with just a single spell!

Meanwhile, a notification that he had gained 10 exp appeared in front of Alex as he slowly told up, his star pattern slowly disappearing.

He now had 75 exp points.

"Phil and Joan, stay near Alex. Leave the rest of the ants to us." Mia’s voice sounded in Alex’s ears, pulling his attention back to the four.

After receiving the order, Phil and Joan walked toward Alex while Mia and Selena went to take care of the few remaining ants.

After reaching where Alex was, Phil suddenly patted him on the shoulder.

"That was pretty impressive, kid, not all rookies would be so calm in the face of a magic beast; now I see why you were brought by the leader herself, you aren’t a normal rookie," Phil said in admiration, he was really impressed by Alex’s performance.

"That’s right, you did very well, Alex. Some of us fainted the first time we saw a magic beast up close like that. Not only did you manage to react, you even killed it!" Joan clapped her hands together and stared at Alex with sparkling eyes.

"Hey, I didn’t faint!" Phil protested with a flustered expression.

"I never mentioned your name, hehe." Joan stuck out her tongue and giggled, causing Phil’s face to turn red with embarrassment.

"Anyway, that was very impressive of you, Alex. As expected of the space element, it’s stronger than most elements." Joan returned her attention to Alex.

The latter responded with a thanks while scratching the back of his head, he found the interaction between Phil and Joan very amusing; the two of them must be close.

Selena and Mia were already done killing off the remaining ants at this point and had finished storing everything in their magic storage devices; they came to meet the remaining three.

Mia stared at Alex with a relieved expression on her face before saying.

"Thank goodness you didn’t get hurt, your mother would have killed me." She sighed after and Alex returned an awkward smile.

As for Selena, she just glanced at Alex without saying anything, but the way she looked at Alex had obviously changed a bit; it was clear that she now had a better impression of him.

"That’s all, let’s go back." Mia clapped her hands and said to the group.

"Umm, are we going to leave the place like this?" Alex hesitated for a moment before asking. The warehouse was still covered in ice, the only thing missing was the corpses of the ants.

"Yes, the Union officers will take care of it." Joan was the one who answered him as they walked toward the small entrance that Mia had opened with a kick earlier.

"Oh," was all Alex said before going mute.

The group went outside and found the Union officers, they were surrounding the place with their weapons pointing at the warehouse as if ready to attack anything that came out that wasn’t a human.

Seeing that it was the group of explorers who went in earlier, they immediately lowered their weapons and slowly approached them.

" How’s the situation inside, ma’am?" The one who seemed to be the leading officer asks in a respectful tone.

"The magic beasts have been dealt with, you can go in and take a look before reporting to your superiors." Mia glanced at him and stated before walking off, not bothering the officers anymore.

The officers were not offended by her attitude and were stunned by her response instead. They had clashed with the ants and knew how hard their armour was, but this group had cleaned them out in just half a minute.

"As expected of mages, they are indeed above us ordinary people." An officer sighed with emotion.

"The Rising Wave group, huh, didn’t know that they were so powerful." Another one said.

"Now that I think about it, that woman looks like the leader of the Rising Wave group."

"You mean the water witch, Mia? Why would she come to take care of such a small mission? Besides, she isn’t the only one who uses an eye patch these days."

"Mm, maybe I was mistaken."

The officers chatted as they approached the warehouse. They passed through the opening that Mia had kicked open and entered the place. What welcomed them was a ruined warehouse that was covered in ice.

The officers "..."

Meanwhile, Alex and the others had returned to the car. Phil took the driver’s seat as usual and controlled the car onto the road as they sped off.

Mia told him to return to the group’s base first before coming to the Union building in the commercial district with her and Selena, they had to turn in the mission and also exchange the corpses and mana cores of the ants.

Some minutes later, Alex and Joan were dropped off in front of the RWGB before Phil drove off with the two women.

"Come, let’s go inside and wait for them." Joan invited Alex inside with a smile.

Both of them entered the living room of the three-story building and found the rough-looking man who had tried to recruit Mr Chen the other day, he was arguing with another member about something.

"Are you really saying that you tried to recruit Mr Chen? You expect me to believe you?" The other member, who was a man with a huge build but a friendly face, asked with an unconvinced tone.

"I’m not lying, he was even about to accept before those bastards of the Dark Star group came and interrupted. They must have annoyed him and made him leave without saying another thing." The rough-looking man said in his defence.

"Yeah, you’re right. Like Mr Chen would even spare someone like you a chance. I heard he’s an important guest of the Union, heck, he might even be someone from the Union Core in the capital; what makes you think he’s someone we can recruit?" The huge man hissed.

At this moment, Simon came out from the kitchen with a plate of food in his hand; the aroma from the plate immediately spread to the living room.

"You two think too much, many already know that Mr Chen is a lone explorer without any ties to the Union, he’s only held in high regard because he’s powerful. Don’t you know that all the core mages who have met him were unable to see through his rank?" Simon voiced out as he walked toward the dining room.

Alex "..."
