Chapter 74: Over 10 million Zen.

Owen looked at Mr Chen with a burning gaze in his eyes. How many Master rank mages were in Balon City? They could all be counted on one hand!

Even the Union that was in charge of protecting the City only had two Master rank mages.

Mr Chen had killed a terror bear all by himself. Judging by the wounds on the bear’s body, it had been a complete beat down!

This had further proved one thing, Mr Chen was someone above the Master mage rank!

’Could he be at the Archmage rank or even higher? Only mages of such strength can do something like this.’ Owen thought to himself.

After a while, he finally calms down and lets out a few dry coughs.

"Ahem, please don’t mind my behaviour, Mr Chen. I got excited, let’s move to your payment." Owen said with a smile as he brought out a clean file from under his desk.

"The amount for all the beast corpses and mana cores reached a total of 2,785,000 Zen. After removing the normal deduction for service cost, Mr Chen will be given 2,515,000 Zen. Would you like me to make a direct transfer or use a Union card like usual?" Owen stated.

Alex was silent for a bit. He already knew that corpses of magic beasts and their mana cores cost a lot, but he was still stunned by the amount he had just heard. Over two million Zen, that was more than he had ever made from one trip!

He couldn’t help but ask why the price went up so much. While Owen felt it was strange for Mr Chen to ask such a question, he was still happy to explain in detail.

Turns out it was because of the terror bear. Alex had already guessed this, but Owen’s explanation still stunned him.

The price difference between magic beasts at the common beast rank and those at the mutated beast rank were worlds apart.

While the corpses and mana cores of beasts at the common beast rank were sold for about 20,000 to 30,000 Zen, the price for corpses and mana cores of beasts at the mutated rank started at a staggering 200,000 Zen!

And the terror bear being a special type of beast with extraordinary combat prowess, its corpse was sold for 500,000 Zen while its mana core reached 800,000 Zen!

Combining this sum with the amount he got from the remaining 33 common rank beasts he had killed had brought Alex a gain of over 2,000,000 Zen!

’I see, the price increases a lot with each rank.’ Alex thought to himself as he brought out the black Union card from under his robe and pushed it toward Owen to transfer the money.

Owen left with the card and soon returned with it before handing it back to Alex. Alex took the card and put it under his robe.

He had over 7.5 million Zen previously, now that he had gotten another 2.5 million, he now had over 10 million Zen!

For a moment, Alex was in a daze as he thought about it. Ten million Zen, this was an amount that many people couldn’t dream of in their lives but he had made it with just a few trips.

’Being a mage is truly wonderful.’ Alex thought to himself, he was already thinking of a way to give some of the money to his parents.

But before that, there was something else he needed to do.

"How much does the Union know about the missing people?" Alex suddenly asked.

Owen’s expression froze for a few seconds before changing into a dispirited expression.

"I see that Mr Chen has become aware of this matter, that’s to be expected. With Mr Chen’s strength, it would be strange for you not to know when it has been going on for weeks now.

The truth is that the Union is still yet to find any trace of the people responsible. All the people that were present have claimed not to be able to recall their faces and they haven’t made any calls to state their demands.

Even with tightened security around public places, our officers have yet to spot anyone suspicious.

We are really helpless in this matter." Owen said with a sigh, his head lowered.

Alex stared at him with a surprised face, so Dan was right; the Union hadn’t been able to find anything even after weeks.

"Do you suspect the Dark Union?" He asked.

Owen instantly reacted, his head raised with a jolt and a hint of shock and disbelief could be seen on his face. freewebnσvel.cøm

"T-the Dark Union, how can it be? The Dark Union are notorious troublemakers and are well known for causing harm to the various powerhouses around the world for no reason, why would they result to kidnapping little children?

And the way of these kidnappers is not the way of the Dark Union, they wouldn’t let anyone who saw them continue living." Owen said in one brought, it was as if he was refusing to believe that the Dark Union was behind the kidnapping of the children within the past two weeks.

Alex’s eyes narrowed behind his mask, Owen had appeared so flustered at the mention of the Dark Union. This made him wonder if the Dark Union was so powerful, he really wanted to know more.

"You seem to know so much about the Dark Union." Alex voiced out and Owen’s face stiffened as he looked at Alex’s mask.

"Does Mr Chen suspect that I’m a member of the Dark Union? What I said was only general knowledge, besides, I’ve dealt with the Dark Union before." Owen said as he leaned back and rested on his seat.

Alex didn’t say anything else, he stood up and walked toward the door.

"Is Mr Chen planning to help with the case of the missing people!" Owen’s voice sounded from behind Alex, the latter paused and nodded.

Owen’s eyes lit up when he saw this and he rose to his feet with both of his hands on his desk.

"That would be great, I believe we’ll make some progress with an expert like Mr Chen taking action. Please feel free to contact the Union anytime if you find anything, we’ll do everything we can to help." Owen stated.

"Mm." Was all Alex replied before leaving.

A few seconds after Alex left the office, Owen dropped to his seat; he looked very tired and worn out.

"That was exhausting." He sighed while staring at the ceiling of his office.

Meanwhile, Alex had just reached the bottom floor and was heading for the door when a figure called out to him from the side.

He turned to look and a look of surprise appeared on his face behind the mask.

It was the rough-looking man from the Rising Wave group, and behind him was the short-haired Joan, both of them approached him with humble smiles on their faces.

"Good evening, Mr Chen. You finally came out, we’ve been waiting for you." The rough looking man spoke up first, his tone was very respectful.

"What is it?" Alex asked. They couldn’t recognise him behind the mask so he didn’t need to appear friendly.

"It’s nothing serious. Our group is teaming up with other groups tomorrow for a beast raid and we wanted to invite Mr Chen to come with us if it won’t be too much trouble for you. I promise it won’t be a waste of time." Joan stepped forward and said with a sincere look.

"I’m busy." Alex spat and walked off.
