Chapter 107: Finding happiness again

Elijah couldn’t let the moment slip away. He had kept silent for too long, waiting, hoping Ash would come back to him on his own. But it had been three years—three long, agonising years of searching, of missing him, of living in a hellish limbo.

And now, standing before the man he loved more than anything, Elijah realised he couldn’t wait anymore.

"Ash," Elijah called out. Ash turned to look at him, his eyes wary, as if bracing himself for what was to come.

"I love you," Elijah said softly, the words hanging in the air between them.

Ash’s face paled, and he instinctively took a step back. "Don’t," he whispered. "Don’t say...that."

But Elijah couldn’t stop now. He stepped closer, his hand reaching out but not quite touching Ash yet. "I can’t keep this inside anymore," Elijah continued, his voice cracking slightly. "I wanted to give you time. I thought if I gave you enough space, maybe you’d find a way to heal, maybe you’d come back to me when you were ready. But I can’t wait anymore. Ash, I...I died in those three years. I searched for you like a dog, praying for any sign of you, living on the hope that one day I’d see you again. And now you’re here, standing right in front of me, I can’t let you slip away again."

Ash shook his head, trying to turn away, but Elijah was quick. He caught Ash’s arm, pulling him into his embrace. "Please don’t leave," Elijah begged. "Just listen to me! I know I hurt you. I know I made mistakes. I should’ve trusted you, believed in you, instead of letting others poison my mind. I regret it every single day, Ash. But we can’t keep living in the past."

Ash trembled in his arms, silent tears slipping down his cheeks. "You don’t understand, Elijah. It’s not that simple. I hurt you...I hurt us. How can we just forget everything that happened?"

Elijah’s heart broke at the sight of his tears, but he smiled gently, wiping them away with his thumbs. "We don’t have to forget," he whispered. "But we can forgive, can’t we? We can start over. We can build everything new. Please, Ash! Can’t we spend the rest of our lives loving each other instead of holding onto this pain?"

Ash shook his head, trying to hold onto his resolve, but Elijah could see the cracks forming in the walls he’d built. "Elijah...I don’t know if I can do this. I’m not the same person anymore."

"And neither am I," Elijah said softly. "We’ve both changed. But one thing that hasn’t changed is how much I love you. You are my everything, Ash. I can’t imagine a life without you in it. I don’t care if we have to take things slow, if we have to rebuild from the ground up. All I want is you. Can’t we just...start new, baby?" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Ash’s breath hitched, and his eyes met Elijah’s, raw and vulnerable. "You make it sound so easy."

"It’s not easy," Elijah admitted. "But it’ll be worth it. I know it will."

Ash looked at him for a long moment, the internal struggle evident in his eyes. Elijah held his breath, hoping, praying for the moment when Ash would finally give in.

And then, with a soft sob, Ash closed the distance between them, his hands fisting in Elijah’s shirt as he crashed his lips against Elijah’s in a desperate, heated kiss. Elijah gasped at the suddenness of it, but he quickly responded, pulling Ash closer, his arms wrapping around him as if he’d never let go again.

As their lips met, Ash’s warm breath ghosted over Elijah’s face.

Their mouths moved together like a perfectly choreographed dance. Their teeth clinked briefly before their tongues took over, eagerly exploring each other’s taste and texture.

Elijah’s hands roamed over Ash’s body, his fingers tangled in his hair as he pulled him closer. The rough stubble on Elijah’s chin scraped against Ash’s skin, making him shiver with desire.

They were lost in each other, two bodies melding into one as they gave into their carnal desires. And as they finally broke away from the kiss to catch their breaths, they knew that this was only the beginning of their journey.

"Does this mean...you’ll give us a chance?" Elijah asked.

Tears slipped down Ash’s cheeks, and Elijah gently wiped them away with the pads of his thumbs, smiling through his own tears. "Let’s start over," Elijah whispered, his lips brushing against Ash’s cheek. "Forget the past. It’s done, baby. All that matters now is the future. Our future."

Ash’s breath hitched, his hands shaking as they moved to grip Elijah’s shoulders. He looked into Elijah’s eyes, his own gaze full of pain, fear, and hope.

"Elijah..." Ash’s voice cracked, but he didn’t look away. "I...I want to try. I’m scared, but...I want to try."

Elijah’s heart soared, and he cupped Ash’s face once more, his thumb brushing over Ash’s swollen lips as he smiled down at him. "That’s all I need to hear."

"I love you," Elijah whispered against Ash’s lips, pressing another soft kiss to his mouth. "I’ll always love you."

Ash smiled through his tears, his hands still clutching Elijah’s shirt. "I love you too," he whispered, his voice barely audible, but full of sincerity. "I always have."

The moment Ash finally let go of the guilt and leaned into Elijah’s embrace felt like he had been pulled from a deep, suffocating ocean.

For so long, he had been drowning in his own shame, replaying the same nightmare in his head, reminding himself of the moment that had shattered their lives. But here, under the soft glow of the setting sun, with Elijah’s arms wrapped tightly around him, something inside him began to shift. It wasn’t that he had forgotten what had happened — he wasn’t sure he ever could — but he felt something new bloom inside him. Hope.

Ash’s heart still ached for what he had done, but Elijah’s words echoed in his mind: We should try to forget the past. Slowly, with each gentle caress of Elijah’s hands on his back and each whispered promise, Ash allowed himself to believe it.

Maybe they could heal. Maybe they could find happiness again.
