Blood Nemesis-Chapter 57: Execution 6
Chapter 57: Execution 6
The balls of water flew towards Oliver like cannonballs.
He slashed the sword at the one coming towards his head and dodged the other by sliding his foot to the side.
Immediately, a wave of pain travelled through his upper body.
The sword in his hand almost slipped as the force from the water ball pushed him back.
*Raah*
Oliver grunted and stabilized himself. Meanwhile, the one that missed him slammed into the wall behind him.
*Thump*
The attacks from the B-ranker were just different. The quantity and quality of their mana manipulation were much better than those ranked lower.
So, it pushed Oliver to go into a defensive stance.
Truth be told, there was no way for him to defeat two B-rankers at all. He could have used some trickery to kill if the fight had been one-on-one. But that was out of the question, considering the situation.
"That’s painful." Oliver rotated his shoulders and twisted the sword while saying.
His nonchalant attitude surprised the duo.
"Is this the pain you were talking about?" Oliver mocked.
"Kid, you are built sturdy."
"Yeah, I know."
While Oliver was talking, the blood rushed to his injured shoulders and healed them instantly.
Meanwhile, some more blood was converted to mana and released into his body.
The golden glow that momentarily disappeared returned. The mana was about 100 units, barely the level of a D ranker.
Still, instead of weakness, he had a rejuvenated appearance.
"You have to try harder than that," Oliver commented while taunting them with his sword.
The alloy sword he held in his hand was a special one that was designed to easily absorb mana.
Oliver, who had no control over the mana, had to use it to cover his deficiency.
While he didn’t care if he won or lost, he wanted to put up a good fight. Maybe injure one for fun.
"Come on bitches. Try again." He shouted and dashed at them.
The mana flowing through his body strengthened his muscles, allowing him to make forced movements he would have otherwise been incapable of.
Thus, his body twisted and turned when more water balls flew towards him.
The B rankers were annoyed.
Oliver looked like a fly moving around erratically.
However, that was not the case. Oliver was predicting every one of their moves and pre-dodging before their attacks could begin.
His senses were tuned to battle. And the years of experience were guiding him through it.
Although Oliver barely dodged, it was an impressive feat, considering who he was fighting.
Finally, realising that they would not be able to catch him like that, the B ranker changed their strategy.
Instead of shooting water balls at their enemy, they began to create a wall of water to surround him.
B rankers had an upper limit of 100,000 mana units. A normal B ranker would have his mana in the tens of thousands.
Even then, creating a water wall was difficult.
The purpose of an attack was to deal as much damage as it could with the least amount of mana. For that, mana needs to be concentrated and used.
A water ball was an example.
However, the water wall strayed from this purpose. It was not really an attack. It was a method they devised to capture Oliver.
So, they had to spread mana on the wall of water and slowly move it closer to him. It was a great method, if not for the mental power needed.
Oliver found an opportunity.
When the wall was closing in on him, he realised that the reaction time of the B rankers was getting slower.
If he had used the blood manipulation ability, he could have attacked them at that moment. But he was deliberately hiding his powers.
’I know what I should do.’ Suddenly, a thought came to him.
The wall of water was pincering him from front and back. The space he could move around was decreasing by the second.
’I can force out one attack before I get captured.’
Oliver suddenly dashed into the wall. Immediately, he felt his body slowing down.
The B rankers weakened the wall to prevent him from dying.
’...’ Oliver smiled.
’They don’t want me to die yet.’ Oliver expected it.
When the wall weakened, he forced one arm out of the water wall. The thick, one-meter-wide wall of water trapped him.
Oliver felt like he was in quicksand. He couldn’t see or hear clearly. And yet, he forced one of his arms out of it and threw something towards the B rankers.
The duo standing some distance away from him never expected that.
A glowing orb flashed before their eyes.
’Mana grenade!’ They thought simultaneously.
Mana grenades were strictly controlled items. They never expected to see one.
They blinked their eyes in panic.
Meanwhile, Oliver smiled.
The glowing orb shone brightly and exploded just a few meters away from him.
*Boom*
It sent a shockwave of light and heat.
Oliver momentarily closed his eyes as he felt the water around his turn soft.
The B rankers relinquished their control over water.
’So, what happened?’ He swiftly turned around on the pool of water on the floor.
However, contrary to what he expected, they had defended against the mana grenade.
’Ah, too bad.’ He sighed.
Other than the blood streaming from their ears, they seemed to have sustained no damage.
’It’s a pity.’ Oliver muttered.
"You damned bastard."
"You damned bitch."
Soon, he heard the chilling voice coming from the people before him.
’Well, I am neither.’ Oliver said in his mind and stood up.
He knew it was the end.
There was no going back.
The last attack failed, and he was about to be captured.
The B rankers were angry and yet cautious of him. They didn’t want any more surprises.
Adding to it, he was practically drowning in water.
The knee-high pool of water and B rankers who could control it meant that there was no hope of escaping.
Finally, he was about to get caught.
Oliver was thrilled.
’Finally, they caught me. It was difficult acting like a fool. Now, it’s time for everything to end.’
When his thoughts reached this point, the water under his foot turned solid. Oliver felt more water climbing up his body, sealing his movement.
Although he failed in injuring the duo, he happily accepted being captured.
