Chapter 76: Recruiter 4

"I don’t know why a contract like that ended up with us. Sorry again for causing you trouble." Yuna apologised.

Her professionalism didn’t allow her to brush it away and move on. She slid her hair behind her ears and bowed slowly.

Then she suggested. "How about modifying the contract to fit your needs? It was our mistake, and I am willing to modify it to suit you."

Her eyes darted between Oliver and Leon.

Oliver was the brain, and Leon was the talent.

"We could also draft a contract for Mr Oliver." She added a few seconds later.

"Me?" Oliver was surprised by the suggestion.

However, even then, Yuna couldn’t sense his emotions.

Still, she answered promptly, "Yes. I think Mr Oliver is a talent worth having."

She was being honest when she said it.

Oliver, who could hide his emotions in front of her, would certainly be a valuable asset.

"I don’t think I can do that. I already joined a guild." Oliver replied, shaking his head.

"May I ask which guild?"

"The strongest guild to ever exist."

"Godhelm? How?"

Godhelm was the strongest guild in the world. It was a guild that was mainly operating in the Sol Empire.

There were currently 7 S rankers in the guild, two more than the second-best guild, Stellarforge of Continental Republic.

But how could Oliver have joined them?

While Yuna maintained her refined appearance, the rest of the people in the room were slack-jawed when the name Godhelm was mentioned.

It was the guild of guilds. Those who joined the guild were usually drowned in riches, given the best treatment, and treated with respect everywhere.

It was an organisation every superhuman wished to join.

If not for the empire and its feudalist social structure, people would have migrated to the empire to get a chance to join them.

"Khe... Godhelm,"

Meanwhile, Oliver scoffed when the name was mentioned.

"Godhelm doesn’t stand a chance against the guild I joined."

His following words confused everyone.

"I am talking about the Nemesis Guild. The best guild in the world with a total number of affiliated superhumans numbering a whole one." Oliver proudly declared.

For some reason, his smug face was extremely slappable at that moment.

"Eh?"

"Eh!"

"What!"

"Who?"

The reactions from the audience were simultaneously different but at the same time similar.

"The guild you are talking about..." Finally, Leon broke the silence and asked.

"Yes, it’s mine. Just sent the application for registration. I am the guild leader, director, CEO, head of HR, and contracted superhuman. Ms Yuna, you were a little late." Oliver went back to his totally unserious mode and said.

He was someone who hated complicated stuff. It was also the reason why he made his own guild.

Instead of working for some other ass, he planned to work his ass off for himself.

"The name has a great ring to it, right?" Oliver asked the stunned audience.

They nodded robotically as if someone had pointed a gun at their head.

Imagine bragging about a guild that was in the registration process.

The utter shamelessness.

It was beyond words.

In just a few seconds, Oliver destroyed all the respect he had garnered.

Maybe that was exactly what he wanted.

"Leon, if you want, you can join my guild. I will take care of you. And Ms Yuna, a position would be available if you ever feel like leaving Nova Rift."

His clear voice rang out into the room. But no one replied.

"Ah! I should practice my sales pitch." Oliver scratched his head and looked at them in embarrassment.

Yuna still couldn’t sense his emotions.

"Anyway, Leon, what should we do about your debt?"

Finally, Oliver moved to the real reason he came to the hospital.

He had promised to pay off Leon’s debt and pay for his sister’s medical bill.

Both were simple matters he could solve. But he wanted to have Leon’s opinion once again.

"Yes, as you said, I noted down young master Chen’s address. I can send it to you."

"Okay."

"Sending it right now."

Leon picked up his phone and fiddled with it for a second before sending the location.

"The promissory note?"

"I have it here." Leon took out a piece of paper and handed it to Oliver.

"Are you sure you want me to handle this?"

Oliver asked just to confirm.

"Yes. I will pay you back."

"Okay. And if you are planning to join their guild, make sure you read the contract thoroughly."

Oliver glanced over to Yuna and her assistant.

"Hm." Leon nodded. "But are you sure? Don’t you don’t want me to join your guild?" He asked back.

"It’s your choice at the end of the day." Oliver gave a smug reply.

Yuna and her assistant stood there motionless as their conversation continued.

During this time, Yuna’s curiosity got the better of her.

So, she concentrated and focused her abilities.

Empaths could sense emotions. That was known to everyone.

She, too, could sense the emotions her target was feeling at the moment.

However, the second evolution of her ability that she recently gained access to could sense all the emotions the target would have felt in his entire life and represent them as a mental image.

Yuna didn’t have exact control over this ability. And yet, she wanted to use it to rule out whether Oliver was a psychopath or not.

It was a quick and easy method to judge a person’s character.

Despite reason telling her not to do it, she squeezed out a tiny bit of mana through her temple and focused it on Oliver’s head.

A thin line of mana formed between their foreheads within a few seconds.

Immediately, she began to feel slightly lightheaded.

Oliver’s mental defence was something she couldn’t comprehend.

The mana she was releasing was being rejected by his body, like it hated it.

Still, she was not ready to give up.

Once she started something, she had to see it through to the end.

It was her way.

The mana, slowly but surely, began to congeal and push towards his mind. As a B-rank superhuman, her control over the mana was impeccable.

Despite the initial resistance, it slowly drilled into his forehead.

For a second, she felt the world turn dark.

Like a light being turned off during the night, everything went dark.

She couldn’t see, feel, or hear anything.

Everything was covered in darkness.

A moment later, she felt her body drowning in thick, viscous liquid.

*Gargle*

The metallic taste and smell assaulted her as she gasped for breath.

Unknowingly, she swallowed a couple of mouthfuls of whatever she was in.

Her legs violently moved to swim up towards the dim red glow above her in panic.

*Ah!*

*Phu*

Bubbles broke the surface when she flailed around and pulled herself up.

Finally, light returned to her eyes.

She could breathe.

Although the nauseating smell continued to assault her, she could finally take a mouthful of air.

But the relief ended there when she realised she was trapped in the middle of an ocean of blood.

For a second, she forgot she was viewing her target’s mind.

Like a driftwood lost in the ocean currents, she felt utterly lost and powerless.

Then, before she could regain her sanity, profound dread swallowed her.

In the horizon, beneath the sunless sky, she saw a shadow emerge.

Contrasting with the crystal clear, pale blue sky, a giant hand made entirely of blood was rising into the sky. And to make matters worse, it was tilted towards her.

’A monster!’

Her mind screamed, powerless.

It was like watching a mythical creature emerge from the depths of the ocean to destroy the world.

The ever-enlarging arm, too large to measure, was falling directly towards her.

For a second, she smelled death.

There was nothing she could do.

No, praying or unwavering faith in god could save her from the monster.

She was sure of that.

Finally, she resigned to fate as the giant arm that rose like a tsunami swatted her to oblivion.

"Ah!" With a slight gasp, Yuna opened her eyes.

But before she could understand what was happening, he legs turned jelly as she fell to the floor.

She had returned to reality.

"Ah!" She gasped again.

Immediately, those around her rushed to support her. However, through the gaps between their body, she saw a person staring at her in amusement.

She felt tiny in his presence.

Like an ant that he could crush any second now.

The terror that she felt when she met the giant bloody hand returned.

Oliver smiled without breaking eye contact.
