Chapter 92: Bluff

’What should I do?’

Oliver didn’t have a second to relax as the new problem came his way.

The Cerulean Cobra was known for being extremely difficult to kill. The last time humanity faced it, they almost lost two S-rankers to it, not because of its strength, but because of its weird abilities. Any information he had on them would be valuable in the coming battle.

’Should I send it to them?’

’My phone was damaged and I don’t have Achara’s or Thunder Emperor’s number at the moment. So, how can I send it to them?’

’Wait a minute, should I even give the information to them? Would it put me in danger?’ Oliver thought.

Sharing information would certainly garner unwanted attention. Oliver didn’t want that for now. And there was no satisfactory explanation he could give as to how he gained the information in the first place.

’Eh! It’s problematic.’

The real Cerulean Cobra that humanity faced was an S-ranked beast with psychic abilities. The blue crystal gem embedded on its head could release mana waves that could distract the enemies around it. And those who were foolish enough to look directly at the gem could fall into its illusion and die. Though the one they saw was an A-ranked one, it would not be that different from the original one.

All things considered, it was one hell of a nasty creature that most superhumans are unequipped to handle.

The information he had on it was minimal, but still useful. Fighting against an enemy you know about was considerably easier than fighting against something unknown. Everyone knew that.

’However, how should I explain the origin of the information?’

’Should I bluff?’

More than 99% of Second Earth was still unexplored. Humanity only had information about the few permanent gates and their surrounding area. A large-scale exploration was still impossible due to the extreme environmental conditions of the planet.

If he really bluffed, they wouldn’t actually know he was bluffing.

But even the most audacious bluff requires a semblance of credibility. And what reasonable points could a young superhuman, fresh out of basic military training, possibly leverage? His qualifications for anything beyond following orders are, at best, questionable.

’It’s like hard-carrying an entire civilization.’ Oliver felt exhausted just thinking about all the lies he would have to weave together just to make it work.

Shortly after, he sighed in frustration.

The cloud of warm air from his mouth became two plumes of mini clouds as he glided over the building. The temperature was getting low quickly, causing his breath to condense into tiny water droplets. The mana wave was creating unnatural weather phenomena as he thought about the future.

’It is a critical moment. I can’t just half ass it like I used to.’

’Could I?’

’Anyway, is there even a chance that they would believe me?’

’Should I take the chance...It’s not like I have any other options.’

Oliver was confused for a second. But a few seconds later, the obvious answer came right to him. Sharing the information was better than holding onto it. He decided.

’Ah! Fuck it! Fuck snakes. Fuck cobras. Fuck everything.’

Oliver cursed in frustration and decided it was better to share it with everyone.

This was his city, his home. A place he wished to protect and safeguard because his family and friends were in it. Garnering a little bit of suspicion by doing something good would probably be okay, right?

’Right?’ He asked and gazed at the sky.

In the sky, he could see blinking lights moving in formation, quickly.

They were drones of the Hero Union. The kind that monitors the battlefield and relays information if necessary. They served mainly two purposes: to show the Heroes in a better light by displaying their rescue activities live while also hovering above to prevent them from misusing their power.

Oliver quickly scanned over them and selected his target.

Some drones were hovering above one of the buildings he was about to cross. His eyes fixed on their location as he jumped towards it.

Communicating with Achara, her team, or the Thunder Emperor was difficult. But he could use other methods to convey the information.

...And the method he selected was the flying drone.

The drones were capable of capturing audio and video feeds live. So, he knew what the next step he should take.

Oliver jumped towards the drones. The building where they hovered quickly came into his view.

*Hmmm*

The hum of the drone propellers seemed like the sound made by bees, but a thousand times louder.

The sleek carbon fibre body of it, with four propellers on each side, tilted as Oliver closed in. It was automatically trying to avoid a collision with Oliver, who was coming towards it.

However, Oliver didn’t let it escape. He immediately flicked his blood tentacles, wrapped them around, and captured the chair-sized drone.

Some of the other drones did evasive maneuvers for a second and turned to look at him.

Finally, he captured the attention of the drone operators and the higher-ups in Hero Union.

The broadcast director quickly focused on Oliver’s face. The camera feed showing his face was quickly moved away from the pool of scenes used for the live telecast.

Before he could think about what was happening, the youthful face of Oliver enlarged in the video feed. Everyone in the broadcast control room gazed at the giant nostril from underneath with changing expressions.

Most of them were perplexed by the situation.

No one, except villains, would capture and destroy Hero Union drones.

Was the youthful face...no...nostrils...a villain?

Was he about to destroy the drones?

Oliver was wearing a black tracksuit with an alloy sword hanging from his back. He looked like a teenager who had just passed military training. He didn’t really look like a villain.

If not for the blood tentacles grabbing the drone, they wouldn’t have even considered the possibility of him being a villain.

A few of the ladies inside the control room smiled while looking at the lean and muscular body of his grabbing the drone through the other drone cameras. In their mind, he looked heroic. Unfortunately, gods didn’t give them eyes that could see reality.

"Hello, can you hear me?"

Suddenly, a voice came from the other side. Oliver was speaking into the drone.

"Hello."

The people in the control room frantically moved. A short while later, they established an outgoing audio connection with the drone and gave it to the director.

"Young man. Do you know what you’re doing? It is a criminal offence to cap..."

The speaker attached to the drone spoke in an authoritative tone. The voice seemingly pissed off Oliver. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"Shut up." He cut the person off before they could continue. Then he gazed into the drone camera seriously and spoke:

"The mana beast that just appeared is a Cerulean Cobra. It is a mana beast found in the lakes surrounded by dense forests. It has psychic abilities that allow it to confuse enemies and the ability to trap those who look at its gem into an illusion. Secondly, it can spit venom, a weak neurotoxin that can affect at least C rankers. The quantity of the venom is high and can be used as a long-range weapon..."

While Oliver was speaking, the people in the broadcast room looked at him in confusion..

What the hell was going on?

All of them had the same thought in their mind, even the director.

He fixed his collar in embarrassment as Oliver continued to speak. In his eyes, Oliver was speaking rubbish, but he still wanted to hear it in its entirety. For some reason, the extremely shady-looking teenager had an aura of authority around him that made him follow his orders.

"...last but not least. The Cerulean Cobras are weak against fire. Physical attacks weaker than an A rank won’t get through their thick scales. But if you are doing it, focus the attack around the gem on its head. The nerves around there can stun it temporarily."

Oliver said and paused for a second.

"All the information I have given is true. It’s something I got from a classified database. You can test and verify. Bye."

Oliver released the drone without even bothering to hear a reply and jumped away.

Two blood wings sprouted from his back, helping him glide across the area, towards the gate.

The snake was snacking on its favourite snacks, the rat snakes!

Any second, it would turn its attention towards the people surrounding the gate. Oliver didn’t have any time to waste.

Besides that, there was not really any good reason to wait and talk with the broadcast operators. The information he gave was correct. Trying to convince them that it was would entail a lot of talking, which could put him in a difficult position.

This way, he did what he set out to do without causing further problems.

Often, deception was not about speaking a lot. It was about lying the right amount to get what you wanted.

The classified database was a lie. But it would work. Oliver knew it.

So, instead of saying anything else, he moved away calmly.

While travelling towards the gate, which was a couple of hundred meters away, he could see one drone persistently following him.

’I expected that much.’

They wouldn’t let him out of their sight from now on. Oliver predicted it the moment he decided to share the information.

Soon, they would reverse image search their database to find if he was registered superhuman. Then they would find he was a Hero Union Member and check the information they had on him.

Unwanted attention was about to be directed at him.

’It doesn’t matter. A drone flying above is just the right thing I needed to make a hero debut.’ A villainous smile appeared on Oliver’s face.

The world will know about him soon.

’Let’s show them how a true hero should fight.’

The crazy smile of his warped into pure excitement as he thought about it.
