Chapter 93: Gate

Oliver’s information sent waves through the broadcast control room, and the director didn’t know what to do.

He was not qualified to decide whether to trust or transmit the information to the people connected to their system. So, with some hesitation, he decided to call his boss and ask what he should do.

However, neither the Cerulean Cobra nor the gate waited for him. Just a few seconds after he called for his boss, the screen displayed before him began to change.

The drones focused on the gate and the giant snake gulping down the smaller ones. The ten-meter-wide hood and blue gem quickly captured his attention.

But before he could make sense, he noticed two more gems appearing right next to the original one.

No, it was not on the same snake.

Two more Cerulean Cobras had poked their head out just in time, raising their total number to five.

The director was an experienced person. He had helmed the broadcast control room multiple times. Within a second, he remembered what the specialist who ranked the gate told him.

’There is more than one A-rank beast within the gate.’

*Gulp*

The director swallowed hard.

His face was drained of all colour.

But that didn’t end there. A couple of seconds later, two more heads peeked out of the gate, hissing and staring at the thousands of rat snakes.

The loud hiss was a wake-up call to the worsening situation.

Suddenly, a doubt sprouted in his mind.

’What if...’

’What if the information the crazy kid said was true?’

Five A-rank ’Cerulean Cobras’ were crazily devouring the small rat snakes like they were slurping up noodles. And most of the rat snakes were behaving in a totally unnatural way. It didn’t seem like they were in fear for their life.

’As if they were stunned or like their mind was damaged.’

Then he also occasionally noticed the vibrance of the gems increasing and decreasing.

The Cerulean Cobra and its gems were doing something suspicious.

’Maybe the information about illusion or mental attacks was true.’

’What if...’

The thought came to him again.

In a few minutes, his boss would come to the control room. He was one of the higher-ups in the Hero Union.

But, does he have the time to wait for that?

The Cerulean cobras were about to be done with their feast. Any second now, their attention would focus on the people nearby.

’Ah!’ He screamed in his mind.

Although Oliver expected to help people, his words put the broadcast director in a dilemma. His sleep-deprived eyes became even more depressing as he gazed at the many monitors in his view.

’If I didn’t do it, I would regret it for an eternity. We don’t know anything about the Cerulean Cobras in the first place. It’s an unfamiliar enemy.’

’Should I send the information to some of the higher-ranked superhumans to verify it?’

’Can I?’

Technically, he had no authority to do so. But the Cerulean Cobras were about to attack them.

Hard pressed for time, the director was finally forced to make a decision that Oliver expected. He silently prayed to god and asked the people around him to send a few private messages.

"Distribute the information we got to the A rankers near the gate." He spoke in slight frustration and worry.

"Huh!"

His subordinates widened their eyes.

"But?"

"Don’t think, just do it." The director shut the person off before he could say anything.

There was no time to worry about the consequences.

"...And add a note that it is unverified information."

Finally, the people in the control room acknowledged his orders and immediately executed them.

The control room was directly linked to the communication networks that superhumans use. They could send information through it in an emergency situation to all superhumans. This was a perk of being affiliated with the Hero Union.

Unlike the other organizations, for example, the Hunter Association or SMB, they had more say on what the superhumans do on Earth. Their reputation and authority made it possible for them to access systems and networks that might otherwise be impossible.

"And focus on that kid. Don’t let him disappear from view." The director asked a drone operator to personally keep an eye on Oliver.

"Yes, sir." The drone operator replied.

Meanwhile, a silent message was sent to the A-ranked superhumans near the gate. The earpiece they were wearing chimed as a new message from the Hero Union was sent to them.

A sweet, gentle voice of woman spoke in their ears about all the information Oliver provided. It also warned them that it was unverified information and they needed their help to verify.

The information came just in time. The feast of snakes ended, and the Cerulean Cobras lifted their eyes to look at the surroundings.

Their eyes were glowing with mana radiance as they observed the situation they were in. The dark metallic scales vibrated over their bodies as they enlarged to reveal their full body.

One after another, the Cobras came out of the gate in their entirety with their heads raised high up and their hoods wide open, looking down at the cretins below.

When fully revealed, their body dwarfed even the colossal metal giants called mechs. Each of their bodies was a little over a hundred meters in length, curled up within the crater. Though they were only a few meters in girth, it didn’t decrease the fear it spread among the people below.

*Hisss*

The five heads of the beasts raised to the sky, looking down on the pesky humans they could swallow in a single gulp, was a sight to behold. Those who were lower ranked felt the blood drain from their face just watching them.

*Gulp*

The humans collectively swallowed hard.

Their nervousness and fear within the area were almost palpable.

Even then, the gate was showing no sign of closing. It kept on undulating and glowing in bright rainbow colours, sending an ominous feeling into the hearts of people below.

The tension rose as the Cobras stared down at the people.

The mechs tightened their body, ready to take action at a moment’s notice. However, a silent order was passed on to them to stand down and not make the first move.

Some of the A-rankers were willing to test out the information they received. Achara was among them. She clung on to the alloy sword in her hand, staring at the colossus. Today, she wanted vengeance. The fury buried deep in her heart woke up, thinking about what happened to Oliver a few minutes ago.

The A-ranker from the hunter association who responded was Swift Sword. The same person who helped M-fresh people capture Oliver. He cautiously gazed at the giant snake, keeping a safe distance and observing. Unlike the rest, he was biding his time for the right opportunity to take action. As a professional hunter, he knew the danger an A-ranked hunter posed.

Meanwhile, an S-ranker from Hero Union approached the area. His shining body flew through the sky like a shooting star as he landed right next to the crater.

The Fist King landed with a bang, shifting the power balance slightly towards the human side.

His face held a mischievous grin as he gazed at the giant snakes towering over him. Unlike the rest, he seemed excited. The thrill of battle woke up the child within the middle-aged man’s heart.

As an S ranker, his presence immediately lifted the spirit of everyone present. The admiration and respect they felt towards an S ranker quickly calmed them down.

And most importantly, it was Fist King.

One of the strongest S-rankers within the country. His deeds were known far and wide across the world.

What more could they ask for while fighting against mere A-ranked beasts?

"Hmph. I was thinking about heading to Second Earth for some exercise. Guess I don’t need to bother now." The Fist King’s eyes narrowed as he addressed the Cerulean Cobra.

Although they couldn’t understand him, his words spread fear and unease into the hearts of the beasts. Their beady eyes and wide heads turned to focus on the body of the tiny human standing only a couple of meters before them.

*Hiss*

Like a leaking gas pipe, they hissed together. A combination of fury and fear was mixed in their hiss.

Just opposite of how Fist King’s presence brought calmness to the humans, the Cobras were feeling cornered.

Suddenly, they channeled mana into the crown of their head. The pale blue gem immediately glowed in a greenish blue hue. They were about to channel their energy to release a wide area mental attack.

However, the Fist King was not going to let that happen.

"No, you don’t." He said and jumped.

His body flew like a meteor towards the A-rank beasts, directly towards their heads.

Exasperated, two of them dove down to escape from his attack.

However, the three others were not that lucky.

Displaying his full prowess, showing why he was called the Fist King, he created an illusory image of a fist to appear right next to their head.

Before the Cerulean Cobras could react, they felt a wind come from their left.

A right hook landed on one of the Cobras, smashing into its chin. But it didn’t stop there.

The illusory fist was heavy and dense, unlike its appearance. It smacked the Cobra right next to it, carrying the head of the first one, then moved to hit the third in a single smooth swing.

The mana they were channeling into their gems flickered and disappeared as their heads slumped to the ground.

"Too weak." The Fist King said nonchalantly.

His words spread outwards, causing the blood of everyone watching to boil in excitement.

"Awesome!"

"Too Awesome!"

They said simultaneously.

Even the people watching it through their TVs, far away from the actual place, felt their hair stand on end.

The Fist King made it look too easy.

Meanwhile, Oliver appeared on top of a building right next to the plaza. The entire fish market and the crater came into his view.

His eyes quickly glanced over, quickly grasping the situation.

’Fucking idiot.’

’Is that guy’s brain made of muscles?’ Oliver screamed in his mind, watching a fantastic display of power by the Fist King. Unlike the rest, he knew the situation was about to get worse.

Although the Cobras looked like they went down easily, the metallic sheen covering their entire body had grown stronger the moment the fist landed.

So, the actual damage it caused was negligible.

If the snakes start their mental attack, even the Fist King would have a hard time resisting it. And if they worked together, the situation could be even worse.

So, in Oliver’s opinion, focusing on one and quickly thinning out their number was the best option.

’But the stupid battle-hungry maniac wouldn’t do that, right?’ He thought in dismay.
