Chapter 94: Unexpected

The Fist King was a world-renowned hero. However, the problem with Heroes is that they try to show off as much as possible when they receive an opportunity. They might not be doing it intentionally, but the result was the same.

The three Cerluean Cobras fell to the ground with a heavy thud. Their scales glowed, and their bodies curled up, tightening the muscles to minimize the damage. Because of that, the spectacular punch that Fist King threw became ineffective.

While he was basking in his glorious deed, the Cobras woke up from their stupor and continued to channel the mana into the gem above their head. It began to glow in a pale greenish blue color once again.

The two that escaped were the quickest to regain their bearing. A few seconds after the three Cobras fell, the other two released their first mental attack.

The glowing gems above their heads release a stormy wave of mana into the area around. Immediately, those around felt something invisible pressing on their head. The feeling came with waves of migraines that made their steps falter. The knees of a few weaker superhumans buckled as they fell to the ground.

Only the S rank and A rank superhumans could resist the pain and look at the Cobras.

Even the mech pilots felt their minds being invaded by the mana waves. Fortunately, they were not in combat.

Oliver, standing on the building nearby, face-palmed.

’That’s why you should have finished them off when you got the chance.’ Oliver thought while looking at the body of Fist King, who was floating in the air.

The mana around him condensed to create a stable floating platform below his feet, allowing him to stand unmoving in the air.

But even then, Oliver could see his face contort in pain. Unlike the rest of the superhumans, who were far from the Cobras, he stood directly above them, bearing the full brunt of the attack.

’They must have realised by this point the info I gave is correct, right?’

’Then, work together and kill it before it uses the illusion ability.’ Oliver said in his mind.

However, expectation and reality were different. Even after understanding what the Cobra’s abilities were, there was a slight pause in their attack. The A-ranked beasts used this chance to release more mana into the air, further strengthening the psychic attack.

The three Cobras that fell also joined in, making the situation far worse.

Now, Oliver, who was standing more than two hundred meters away, felt the tumultuous mana wave induce migraine in him. So, he could imagine the conditions of the people near the crater.

One by one, the weaker ones grimaced and groaned until they fell to the ground.

Fortunately, Oliver was used to pain. The migraine was not enough to stop him.

’Uh! Bad!’ He said in his mind and jumped down from the building after a second of deliberation. There was no point in standing there and looking at the fight, so he decided to join in on the fun.

Two blood wings formed behind, allowing him to glide down towards the gate.

As the glider wings sliced through the air, he noticed the Cobras doing something unexpected. With growing anger in their eyes, they looked up and circled under the Fist King. Their bodies moved in synchrony and coiled.

Then abruptly, they launched themself up, striking at his feet with a speed no less than that of a lightning bolt.

*Swoosh*

It was the first time the mana beast, the rulers of their region, felt fear and danger. Their glowing eyes stared up at Fist King, filled with enough anger and displeasure to turn him into ash. Their murderous stare drilled into the bodies of the man floating above, waiting for a chance to rip him apart.

In a second, their curled-up bodies expanded, releasing enough force to punch through a meter-thick solid iron block.

The Fist King unexpectedly threw a punch at the first one that reached him with his bare fist.

*BAANG*

Like metal hitting metal, a thunderous sound resounded in the area, throwing the Cobra to the ground. The hundred-meter-long body of the snake recoiled in pain as it let out a loud hiss.

The same happened to the other three. However, the last one was quicker. It bit into his leg, shattering the mana platform he stood on. The sharp, long teeth of the Cobra drilled into his leg like a meter-long sword.

*Ting*

A metallic sound once again reverberated as the snake failed to bite through him.

Fortunately, the snake failed.

The body of Fist King was like a sturdy diamond, hard and dense, stopping the fang dead in its tracks. Although the clothes below his knee were shredded and a patch of skin was peeled, the snake couldn’t do much damage.

The Fist King was known for his durability. He was a combat maniac who trained in some of the harshest conditions known to mankind just to elevate his body durability. And most importantly, he was the only known superhuman to have grown to S rank with a subpar physical enhancement ability.

Even though Oliver cursed him in his mind for his stupidity, he respected the crazy man for what he had become. He was someone worthy of being respected and admired.

The Fist King smiled when the huge mouth of the Cobra clamped down on one of his legs. With a swift motion, he charged his fist with mana and smacked at the teeth of the Cobra.

*RRRRSSSSS*

The snake groaned in pain.

It felt like the teeth were about to come loose.

*Bang*

Again, the fist slammed down.

*HISSSS*

*Bang. Bang. Bang...*

The fist rained down relentlessly, not even allowing it a chance to scream. The mana and explosive power of an S-ranker, however small the body wielding it, still dwarfed that of an A-ranked beast.

The lower-ranked beast’s only hope might have been its durability, but it was facing a monster just as, if not more, durable.

The frightening noise of the fist hitting teeth and flesh resounded for a couple of seconds, stunning the giant snake. Finally, its jaw slackened.

The Fist King was almost free from its jaws.

However, in the exact moment, another Cerluean Cobra shot up and bit over the head of the first one, covering his entire body in saliva and corrosive venom.

In a battle amongst the highest of ranks, each and every move was critical. The initial failure to suppress the enemy finally bit him in the ass...or all of the body.

With a big gulp, the Cobra tried to swallow the Fist King, who was about to be released. A thick green colored corrosive poison rained on his body while noxious vapour assaulted his nose.

The jaw closed in a second, enveloping the entire body of the Fist King.

Then, it turned one-eight degrees and ran into the gate.

’Huh!’ Oliver, who was flying down, was shocked.

’What the heck happened?’

The Cerulean cobras were known for their ferocity. They should have stood their ground and fought. And yet, that one trapped Fist King in its mouth and went back into the gate before anyone could understand.

Everything that happened, from the moment Fist King attacked to him being swallowed and the Cobra retreating, happened in a few seconds. Not even a minute had passed, and yet the Cobra decided to retreat.

What kind of ferocity is this?

’Are they really babies?’ Oliver asked himself in total dismay.

He could understand why a ’ferocious creature’ would retreat if it were young and inexperienced.

’Oh! Crap! Wouldn’t that mean there is an S rank one on the other side? Possibly the one I remember!’

’Is it retreating to complain to its mommy?’

’Maybe he rests in peace.’ Oliver silently chanted in his mind, looking at the tail that just disappeared into the gate.

Within the next few seconds, not giving any chance to think, the rest of the Cerulean Cobras retreated into the gate, leaving everyone stunned.

When Oliver glided down and landed next to Achara, he saw her staring at the undulating colorful gate in confusion. Just like everyone else, she was also perplexed by the situation.

A couple of seconds ago, she had vowed to decapitate the Cobras for revenge. And yet, before she could, the damned cretins ran back into the gate.

What was she supposed to do now?

How can she face Oliver’s family now?

Did they gate-break end?

So, was Oliver’s sacrifice for nothing?

In a short few seconds, multiple questions came to her mind.

She was lost in thought and failed to sense Oliver, who landed gracefully a couple of meters away.

"Stop right there." Immediately, one of the soldiers near Oliver raised his gun and pointed it at him. The rest noticed him and did the same.

"Okay." Oliver immediately agreed and raised his hand. Then he pointed his fingers forward and said. "I am with her."

"Who?" The soldier was perplexed and asked confused.

"Her...Achara." He pointed again. "For god’s sake, don’t you remember me. The guy who was flushed down the sewers."

The soldiers widened their eyes in realisation.

"Shit!"

They cursed aloud. They were surprised by that fact that Oliver was alive.

"Well, not exactly. My name is Oliver. Truth be told, I have been in shittier circumstances." Oliver replied nonchalantly.

Finally, his voice grabbed Achara’s attention, she turned her head slowly. As if she had seen a ghost, she looked at him incredulously, her eyes wide open and her mouth agape.

’Was he a spectre?’ She asked in her mind.

However, she quickly dismissed that notion. He wasn’t glowing with translucent light; his body was clearly corporeal.

"You are alive?" She exclaimed and inquired.

"Pretty much." Oliver nodded, seeing her.

A sudden flood of relief washed over Achara’s mind the moment he answered.
