Chapter 96: Blood

The mechs were the first to move. The metal colossus towering over everyone took a step towards the gate.

Poison Arrow Frogs varied in size, but most of them were as small as a cat or as big as a dog. They were flooding out of the gate like a small tsunami, one leaping over the other, confused and disoriented.

The two mechs used the chaos to step into the crater immediately. Their giant hands suddenly morphed, fingers detaching, metal parts peeling back to reveal a chainsaw hidden beneath.

The chainsaw was sleek and slender, made of extremely hard and sharp teeth of some kind of mana beast. It made a horrifyingly loud groan as teeth rotated, slicing the air.

Then, without any delay, the mechs stood on either side of the gate and crouched, shoving their chainsaw hands into the gate entrance.

*Splurt*

*Crsssss*

The huge chainsaws were a couple of meters long. The moment the body of a Poison Arrow Frog touched the teeth of the chainsaws, their bodies were shredded, releasing a cloud of blood and flesh flying in the air.

Oliver watched the scene from afar in great satisfaction.

Though the Poison Arrow Frogs were dangerous, the creature was defenseless in front of the armoured mechs, covered from head to toe with shiny chrome shells made out of the strongest alloys humans can build.

Mechs were built exactly for situations like this. When there was an overwhelming number of weak mana beasts, it could mow down their number within seconds. And it was doing exactly what it meant to do while standing in front of the gate.

However, even though the mechs could easily kill anything that came near them, drowning the crater in a river of blood, some of the frogs were able to escape by dodging the spinning blade of death. And they were making their way up the crater, fleeing in all directions.

"That’s my cue."

Oliver smirked and ran forward.

In the past, after regression, Oliver dealt with his enemies by using tricks and insidious traps. Often, his time was spent making elaborate plans to systematically destroy and kill his enemies.

However, this time, he didn’t really have any plans. Everything that happened in the past few hours was totally out of his expectations.

Truth be told, it took him by surprise.

For someone like Oliver, who loved to keep everything under his control, it was a large blow.

Like that, the damned gate and everything that came from it became a source for his irritation.

’I was thinking of how I should train to control mana. This might be a great opportunity.’

’As the saying goes, when life gives you potatoes, you should make potato chips with them.’

’Besides that, it is time to show my magnificence to the world.’

For some unknown reason, he felt his blood boil thinking about letting his murderous instincts run wild.

’My debut battle is going to be amazing.’

’Let me show them what a true hero should be. I want them to feel ashamed to call themselves a hero in front of me.’

The villain, who was about to debut himself as a hero, said in his mind. His disgust, contempt, and hatred towards heroes were firmly planted in his mind. He was unwilling to change that because it was not a baseless notion. There were many heroes as bad as or worse than villains. He had more clarity and insight into the topic than anyone else.

So, by using some weird logic, he finally came to an unexpected conclusion. He decided to redefine what a real hero is.

What the word ’hero’ meant.

’The world should realise that not all random people who became superhuman deserve to be called a hero.’

’Maybe I won’t be able to change that today. But I will surely do so in the future. I will reveal the dark and evil side hidden behind those people who still call themselves heroes while placing myself firmly in the ranks of the top heroes.’

At that moment, Indra’s smiling face appeared in Oliver’s mind.

Oliver was an unbelievably petty and vindictive in nature. He remembers all his grievances and was used to paying them back in full. However, in his past life, he failed to kill Indra in a satisfactory manner. He wanted to torture and make the bastard suffer an eternity of pain before killing him. But he failed because of certain circumstances. Maybe it was the source for all the negative emotions in his mind. The seed of negative emotions thrust him onto a path he never thought he would tread.

...One that makes him a hero...or at least publically.

’I will be the best hero the world knows if I must. The best and baddest hero alive.’ Oliver thought while grasping the blade in his hands tightly.

Initially, he planned to hide and take a slow and steady approach to life. However, the plan was sidelined the moment the relationship with the Thunder Emperor was achieved.

Through those connections, in an unexpected twist of fate, he was about to be a Hero Academy student, under full observation of all world powers. There was no point in hiding the majority of his powers. In fact, it would be detrimental to him.

So, Oliver decided to go full throttle. Other than the revive ability and his full range of blood control, he was about to show all his abilities. That meant healing, blood storage, blood to mana, and battle skills.

And he was about to use the current situation to drive his fate in the direction he wanted. This time, he will be the one using authority and public opinion to crush his enemies.

For that, the first thing he had to do was bathe in mana and blood.

’Let’s see what I can do with my little body.’ Oliver looked at the dozens of Poison Arrow Frogs appearing near him.

-

Now that the situation was in favour of humanity. Like Oliver, hundreds of superhumans who surrounded the gate burst into action. They raised their weapons and charged forward to stop the mana beast in their tracks.

Meanwhile, Achara and the soldiers followed suit to provide help.

However, Oliver didn’t pay attention to anything else. Once he made the decision to train, his mind focused on his body and spinning golden coins in his blood sac.

The river of blood that was about to flow will soon become the fuel for his training.

Suddenly, the sword Oliver held glowed in pale golden light.

He used the little blood he had to convert it to mana and enhance the alloy sword, increasing its durability and sharpness. The mana flowed into it like a steady stream, increasing its glow by the second. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

Soon, Oliver appeared right next to the crater and the frogs.

The dozen or so frogs near him crouched and jumped towards him. Their bodies arced and sped up in his direction with their horns on the snout glowing in a pale purple glint.

The horn was tiny and weak, with a few centimetres in length and less than a centimetre in girth. The top end of it was tapered into a sharp needle with an opening to inject the poison into any unfortunate creature that had the fate of being stabbed by it.

Oliver scoffed, seeing that.

His sword flowed like a snake across the area within his reach, leaving behind a golden trail, tracing a clean line across the black glossy body of the frogs.

*Slash*

In a split second, he had severed the frogs exactly in half, leaving their body flying in the air aimlessly.

*Thud*

Soon, the lifeless bodies of the frogs fell onto the ground and rolled.

Oliver nonchalantly took a step forward while releasing lines of blood from his feet to cover the carcasses of the frogs, immediately absorbing back more blood than he consumed to generate the mana.

The frogs were the size of a dog. They had about 1.5 litres of blood in them. Oliver expended about 1 unit of blood to kill one. The conversion rate of blood to mana was 1:1. So, he had gained about 500 mL of blood by killing one frog.

The dozen he killed increased the blood in his blood sac by six litres.

Oliver was satisfied.

Immediately, he converted the blood he gained to mana and dashed forward, killing a few more Poison Arrow Frogs.

The creature was weak as expected. All their attack power was focused on their ability to swim and to poison their prey with their horn. Neither worked against an experienced fighter like Oliver, who could carefully predict and dodge their movements.

Oliver was moving like a hot knife moving through butter as he left the carcasses sucked dry of blood behind. He cleaved the groups of frogs rushing to him in half, easily sucking dry their body of blood.

Even after a few seconds and three dozen frogs later, none could even touch the hem of his clothes.

...And even if it had touched, Oliver would not have been concerned about any kind of poison or wound. He had enough blood to heal himself, practically in seconds.

The frogs were far too weak to give him considerable damage before he could heal, like the demon monkey.

His figures quickly moved through the battlefield, like an elegant dancer killing any frogs in sight effortlessly.

Meanwhile, everyone else was doing more or less the same. Although these people didn’t have the healing abilities and poison resistance of Oliver, they were wearing sturdy armour.

The horns of the frogs were far too weak to pierce and injure these armour-wearing men. Similarly, higher-ranked superhumans had dense mana covering their body, effortlessly repelling the attacks of the frogs.

Achara was one of them.

She was moving like a hurricane, her legs swinging left and right, kicking and smashing the bodies of the E-ranked beasts into pulp.

Soon, the entire battlefield was covered in blood.

Oliver, who fed on blood, began to crazily absorb it and generate mana while also healing himself. And the result was completely out of his expectations.

Suddenly, his body began to release a golden glow, capturing the attention of everyone.
