Blood Nemesis-Chapter 98: Star
Chapter 98: Star
All of the superhumans were tired. They breathed a sigh of relief when the mana beast coming out of the gate slowed down.
"Who is that?" Suddenly, one of the superhumans who was just outside the crater asked.
His friend near him shook his head and answered.
"Don’t know."
"Is he someone famous?"
Their eyes were tracing the body of Oliver, moving quickly through the battlefield like a golden fiend.
"If he were famous, we would have known about him, right?"
"That’s right." The man sliced apart a frog that escaped the crater and said.
"Anyway, he seemed to be with the military." The other person added while leaning onto a pillar nearby. His body was exhausted, and he was breathing loudly as he spoke.
The other man followed suit to leaned on the other side of a broken pillar that was near them and asked:
"Care to elaborate?"
Both of them were superhumans from the Hunter Association, they were called into battle while they were leaving the gate after their work. They were already exhausted before they came to the battlefield, and now, they were utterly exhausted, barely hanging on.
"I saw him talking with the people from the military. He might be new. A fresh graduate from the Hero Academy."
"Hero Academy? What made you think that?"
"Who else can fight like that when they are that young?"
The man made an observation and speculated.
"That young...Ah! Now that I look at it, he is indeed young. The guy is wearing a tracksuit while fighting against mana beasts. He must be a crazy strong guy, confident in his abilities. Well, he should be. Look at the carcasses behind him." The man paused to take a breath a continued. "All the bodies are cleaved in half with precision and skill. I can’t even see one that’s a little skewed."
"Hm..." The other person nodded in affirmation.
Unknowingly, they began to believe that Oliver really was a Hero Academy graduate. One of the hotshots who would become a strong hero in the future.
Similar conversations were happening all around the battlefield. The appearance of the new person who showed impeccable battle skills was noticed by everyone. Even the people in their homes, watching the gate defence operation, also looked at the man in awe. Especially, the people in Oliver’s home, his parents and brother. frёeωebɳovel.com
"Is that really him?"
A few minutes ago, the images of the golden beam that went around killing the mana beast appeared on the TV. But they didn’t focus on it much, since they wanted to find Oliver. They were focused on the images showing the outskirts of the battlefield, scanning other channels displaying the news.
However, finally, they noticed a card appearing on the screen.
It was showing the name and photo of a person on the top half, while the bottom half showed rank, achievement, and some information about the abilities.
"Huh!" Arin quickly noticed it. "Is that brother?" He barely said as both his mother and father zoomed towards the TV, sticking their face close to the display, reading the details in panic.
Arin had to push them away to see it himself and confirm.
"It really is him." He muttered.
"Why is he glowing?" Suddenly, James asked.
"I don’t know." Maya, Oliver’s mother, replied.
Two of them instinctively turned ot Arin the next moment.
"Well, what should I say..." Arin took a step back.
"Do you know it?" Both of the parents asked simultaneously.
"I don’t really know. But I saw him glowing when he was cooking. Do you remember when he said his ability evolved during the military training? I think it had something to do with that. He can use mana, and when he uses it, he glows sometimes."
"Oh!"
"Oh!"
Both parents widened their eyes and continued to look at the screen.
"Didn’t he say he was D rank and had D rank potential?" Suddenly, James remembered something and asked.
"Yes! He said it when he called."
Maya nodded.
"But, why does the card show that he is Rank E?"
"Oh! I can explain that..."
Before Arin could complete his words, Maya interjected.
"Stop it, both of you." She said and pushed them away from each other and returned to sit back on the sofa, worried.
She calmed herself down and continued to watch the golden figure moving on the TV.
"Explanations can wait." She added, gathering her courage to watch it.
Immediately, both Arin and James sat nearby. Although they didn’t show it on their face, both of them were concerned, just like Maya. They, too, wanted to closely observe what was happening to Oliver.
If something bad happens, they would see it live. The thought was both terrifying and inevitable.
Gathering their courage, they sat by the TV, patiently watching everything that was happening with intent.
Meanwhile, as time went by, the TV anchor began to focus more and more on Oliver. His youthful body, which was running across the battlefield, around the gate, made him stand out. They found that people were more interested in him due to his flashy appearance.
Soon, more and more information about him, such as his age, nationality, became public. The news anchors became particularly interested when they knew he was a superhuman who had recently completed his military training and registered.
The potential emergence of a new star became a hot topic.
Soon, ruckus was being caused in both social media and conventional news networks.
Everyone wanted to know more about the newcomer, who was fighting for them, against the monstrous mana beasts. Meanwhile, some people from popular guilds also began to dig into his background, thinking about the possibility of recruiting him.
Like that, Oliver’s untiring body moving around the gate was soon imprinted into the minds of hundreds of thousands of people. Unknown to him, a social media storm was brewing in his name.

Meanwhile, many superhumans began to step away from the battlefield, exhausted.
Finally, the poison arrow frogs had stopped rushing out of the gate, giving them room to breathe.
But, even then, Oliver kept on moving, chasing after stragglers, killing anything in sight. One of the reasons the rest of them could relax was because of him. They appreciated the help he provided and climbed up the crater to sit down.
Oliver, on the other hand, became more and more tense. He knew better than anyone that it was only the first wave that they thwarted.
