Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking-Chapter 606: Bad Timing; Void Shift
--
The black and white expanse filled with emptiness and bleakness stretched out before Cedric's second clone.
He'd admit, he does not miss this place at all. If it weren't for the fact that his schedule was so free now because of his clones, he wouldn't even brother going here at all.
A couple of things changed from the last time he was here. It wasn't about the place but to himself.
Before, Cedric will feel a creeping dread slowly swarming his chest. The sensation gets worse the longer he stayed here and it made sense, given that this place was extremely hostile to living beings like him. Moreover, he always felt like he's being watched constantly, and no matter what he did, he can't escape this surveilance. Additionally, there are monsters here. Ones that will not hesitate to tear him apart, limb by limb, the moment they got their hands on him, making it so much worse to be here.
But Cedric wasn't the same man as he was back then...
In the many years he hadn't returned here, Cedric learned a thing or two. Most importantly, he discovered a way to bring thr unruly void to its knees.
Now, even as a clone, he's no longer afraid of this place, at all. To him, this feels just like another strange vista he could visit as he pleased. Not a pleasant one, that's for certain, and it's locals are very hostile to people like him, but not all that threatening.
Cedric's second clone strode through the lifeless and hostile land with ease, as if he's walking on his yard.
His mind analyzed a couple of things as he existed here and he realized a few things.
The first one was a given and has already been stated before; he doesn't feel the same threat he felt before. This wasn't an illusion his mind concocted to comfort him, nor was it his blind arrogance. This was real.
Second, the consciousness of the Void can't sense him. If it could, then he would've felt its gaze the very moment he took his first step here. Cedric's clone has already walked a few miles deep into the territory and he's yet to feel it.
This was mostly because he learned how to manipulate and overwhelm the void, so much to the point that he could even use it as a power source to strengthen himself. His will as a Primordial, even just as a clone, automatically causes the void to either avoid him or ignore his existence at all. Of course, this was under the assumption that he wouldn't do anything huge that would announce his presence to it.
He might also be invisible to sense of Void Creatures too. That said, this needs to be tested some more since the ones he encountered so far were weak ones.
And finally, he discovered that even though he's outside of his home realm, Cedric could still wield the power of laws.
This doesn't mean that Concept Laws exists here. No, it doesn't. The reason why he could still wield its power was because of Chaos Energy. With his achievements and intimate knowledge of Concept Laws, Cedric could use Chaos Energy to form concept laws in the void. But of course, doing so would certainly alarm the void so unless it's necessary, he wouldn't do it.
Cedric realized these three important points at once, and it hasn't even been an hour since he arrived here. With his consciousness attached to his clones, he had his first clone take note of these discoveries because they might prove useful in the future.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Oh, and has he mentioned that he arrived here at a rather bad time? Because the 'Void Shift' was happening right now.
As a reminder, 'Void Shift' is a natural phenomenon of the void where it's structure shifts randomly like a jigsaw puzzle. This event used to be bad news to the Border Patrol Office since the terrain under the surveilance changes.
All the resource nodes they marked, the paths, routes, and safe zones, all gets jumbled into a mess, and they're powerless to stop it.
Now though, it wasn't as much of a threat anymore. It's still inconvenient, don't get them wrong, but it's not that troublesome anymore.
Cedric looked around at the shifting lands around him, letting himself be carried away to wherever this piece of land was supposed to go. Before being taken away, he paid attention to the surveilance bots that had been installed nearby. Once he saw that they remained where they are, completely unaffected by the shifting terrain around them and not being damaged either, he nodded in relief.
With the technology advancing at a rapid pace in the Border Patrol Office, the surveilance area had expanded. By now, it has stretched into a full 100,000 miles away from the gates, making it possible for the army to respond faster and more efficiently if anything happens.
As the land he's in shifted by itself, Cedric continued paying attention to his surroundings. Matter of face, he even unfolded his all powerful sensory field to observe as much as he could about this phenomenon to deepen his understanding of it.
'Oh, that's interesting!' He muttered to himself, 'It's like I'm inside one of the blocks of a rubik's cube while somebody's playing with it mindlessly.'
This was the closest description he could think of for his situation. Of course, it's more complicated than that, but this was the simplest way to explain it.
As the environment shifted around him, Cedric saw many Void Creatures who, just like him, treated this entire event like it was a normal occurence. No big deal at all. They all stayed put and let things happen since they knew it wouldn't kill them. Even if it does, so what? They'd be revived shortly after, so what's there to worry about?
Aside from the shfiting landmasses, the Void Density was also wildly fluctuating during this time. And this, along with the threat of the Void Creatures, is what makes this event really troublesome to team who were unfortunate enough to be caught in the middle of this phenomenon.
'Oh, there are actually some.' Cedric muttered to himself after spotting a team scrambling towards the nearest stable landmass to save themselves.
The sight brought back terrible memories for Cedric. He was once like them too, caught in this horrible phenomenon. What's worse is that this team doesn't have a Void Refinement Realm leader, so they'd be helpless here.
Sighing to himself, Cedric stood up and moved.
With pure speed alone, he appeared before the scrambling and frightened team, carried them all and ran to the nearest Safe Zone. Upon getting there, he opened it up and took the team inside, making sure to close it behind them.
"You guys stay there and wait this one out. There is something here that will re-calibrate your position once the Void Shift is over and will give you directions back to the nearest gate if its available. If it turns out that it can't, I'll come back for you."
The Safe Zones had been improved as well over the years. Now, they've manage to build a hidden shelter where people can stay to rest or recuperate in between missions. These Safe Zones are scattered all over the void, there are even some at the Heart of the Void but not a lot.
In these Safe Zones, there are rations, rooms, supplies, and other necessities. It's a little bit of a haven in the middle of a lifeless world like this.
These safe zones become especially valuable in events like this because they were built to endure the harsh environment of the void. Even the Void Shift can't destroy them.
Cedric didn't stay to hear them out. He left them there as he searched for other teams like them.
With his powerful sensory field, it was impossible for him to lose his direction here, even if the Void Density were to surpass Level 10 so he easily made his way around, searching for unfortunate teams.
He found five more. And just like what he did to the first one he found, he took them to the nearest safe zone as well, he also didn't bother staying behind to listen to them.
Cedric ran around some more, searching for other teams but there were no more, so he once's again stayed put and waited until the Void Shift was over.
It took some time but eventually, the void calmed down. Once it does, Cedric was on the move again.
He was certain that the people who's task was to monitor the void were already on the move to not only re-calibrate the routes and paths, but to also rescue the unfortunate teams who were trapped during the Void Shift.
Luckily, since the Safe Zones were pinned to the location and not the land, it stayed in place and could easily be located by the rescue teams. All of the teams Cedric rescues was within their immediate search area so he doesn't have to come back for any of them.
With this in mind, Cedric didn't linger too long. Instead, he made his way deeper into the void.
