The deeper Cedric went, the worse these abominations looked...

Even now, he still doesn't understand the aesthetic preferences of the void, creating its creatures this way. They're straight-up nightmare fuel.

They behaved exactly the way he expected them to: listless and dumb. They almost look domesticated this way, but that's only because they couldn't sense him at all.

As he went nearer to the Heart of the Void, more strange things appeared in his observation field aside from these abominations. He saw nonsensical structures trying to serve as homes for these creatures, but from how they behaved, it's clear that they don't know what to do with them.

Some creatures draped themselves over the structures they owned, their bodies bending in questionable and strange angles. Cedric interpreted this as their way of claiming this territory as theirs. Others carried their homes on their backs; a few swallowed them and then spat them back as if marking them.

It's weird, truly. It looks stupid, wrong, and uncharacteristic for Void Creatures. It's almost adorable if you don't consider how monstrous these creatures could truly be once they're provoked.

Aside from observing their strange behaviors, Cedric was also eavesdropping on their conversations. At the very least, he thought, their use of Void Language was much better than their attempts at mimicking society.

They spoke of random things. Most refer to themselves in a third person's perspective, and the contents of their conversations were mostly brags and competitions, like they're trying to prove who's the better Void Creature.

Despite their hulking sizes and monstrous visages, their topic was surprisingly childish. It's like Cedric was watching a bunch of cavemen arguing with each other.

Being this deep into their territory proves that, unless he truly does something big, these creatures couldn't sense him. Even as he breathes down their necks, they're still none the wiser.

It's incredible how easy and simple this was. Cedric wasn't even trying at all.

Since he was here, Cedric decided to have his clone investigate deeper, checking if there are any more important developments he had to know so that he could warn his people ahead of time.

And even though he no longer worked as a researcher for the Void Studies, Cedric remains just as knowledgeable and a natural when it comes to foreign languages as he was before. If anything, he's even better at it now that he's become a Primordial.

'Childish scribbles, mostly. It almost sounds like gibberish if I speak this out loud. Tons of grammatical errors too.' Cedric snorted as he observed the carvings on the walls and tablets.

He could be spiteful about this and correct it, but he won't. This has nothing to do with him, after all.

Cedric found it so amusing how hard they're trying to mimic society here, introducing order and discipline to these abominations. He wondered if this was the will of the Void itself or the Void Prince.

Either way, he doesn't think too highly of it. He deems it a waste of time. After all, no matter how hard these creatures tried, they couldn't bridge the gap between species that fast; they're simply not built and capable of doing that.

Even if they don't concern themselves with time, it's still going to take them a very long time before they could even qualify as a functioning society.

After discovering this, Cedric wasn't so concerned anymore. He then made his way deeper into the void, passing through the monsters who couldn't sense his presence at all.

The deeper he went, the more hostile and dense the void became. By now, the contrast between black and white has completely faded. Only darkness was left, and it dominated everything here.

It didn't really deter him at all, but to others, this place will be a nightmare. It is so dark in here that one would think they're inside a black hole. No light, sound, or disturbances could be seen or felt here. Everything was just dark.

Anybody who's not prepared or strong enough to be here will immediately succumb to this environment. The nothingness of this place will swallow them whole, literally. And that's if the things lurking here didn't get to them first.

But obviously, Cedric wasn't an ordinary person. He's genuinely one of the strongest creatures of the living beings. Not even a place like this could restrict him.

The gnawing darkness tried, but it couldn't reach him. It's as if he exists in a completely separate dimension far away from them, making it impossible for them to reach him. The darkness also couldn't obscure his vision. He could still differentiate pure darkness from a Void Creature in this environment as if he could see them under direct sunlight. And more important, the whispers of the void can't reach him at all. Because of that, he didn't risk turning mad or insane in this place.

Since he's completely unaffected by this environment, Cedric could calmly analyze everything around here.

The structure of society around this part was more structured and orderly compared to what he saw outside, but not by much. It's still clumsy and childish for the most part, but it has direction, at least.

Void Creatures in here were far more terrifying than the ones he saw outside, which makes sense given that this was the heart of their world and it's their duty to protect it.

These creatures had a patrol route. The funny thing is that Cedric could clearly see traces of the Border Patrol Office's influence in this aspect. They're mimicking how the Void Traversers moved around, which was rather admirable, but it's clear that most of them truly don't understand what they're doing.

Cedric could easily see gaps in their routes. Additionally, their paths often intersected with each other; some creatures were slow, and others moved too fast. It was a whole mess, yet somehow, they think they're doing a good job at obeying orders, evident by how they bragged about it in their small talks.

At a distance, Cedric saw the largest structure he'd ever seen out here. And with how simplistic these creatures were, Cedric could immediately tell that that's where he'd find the loser, the Void Prince.

For a second there, Cedric debated if he should infiltrate that place or not. The cause of his hesitation was the risk of alarming the entire world of his presence, and being caught too deep here might pose a risk to his safety. Sure, this was just his clone, but a risk is still a risk.

He can't just rely on the fact that these creatures couldn't sense him because the Void Prince was on a different level compared to them, and he might sense him.

And speak of the goddamn devil...

'Oops! Can he see me? '

His timing was really bad because the Void Prince just happened to come out of his 'castle' as he stood there, and his gaze also just happened to land in his direction.

Cedric stilled for a bit. Even with the great distance between them, he could still see the expression of the Void Prince as if he were standing right in front of him.

A frown appeared on the unholy face of the prince. It's like he's confused about something. His eyes were locked on where Cedric stood, but from what Cedric could tell, he wasn't actually looking at him, only at his direction.

"...but I don't see anything. What could it be?" Cedric heard him mutter softly under his breath.

Immediately connecting the dots, Cedric ducked and slowly moved away from the prince's line of sight. And as he expected, the prince's eyes remained transfixed in the same direction, not following him at all.

Cedric walked slowly but steadily away from where the prince was looking; he also turned his eyes away, not deliberately looking his way but still maintaining his sensory field over him. Cedric really didn't need a direct line of sight to observe the prince, after all.

And as if proving his idea, moments later, he heard the Void Prince sigh and say,

"I must be losing my mind, then. There's nothing there. The feeling of being observed also disappeared."

"Maybe I've been idle for too long; that's why I'm feeling this way."

"Should I launch another invasion? It hasn't been that long; the creatures of the Primordial Chaos shouldn't be able to recover that fast. I might even have a better chance if I do it now."

Who could've thought that the Void Prince also monologues?

But his words caused Cedric's expression to turn a bit strange. He's planning on another invasion just because he thinks he's being too idle? The thought processes of the Void Creatures are truly strange...

The question is, will he?

"...I'll think about it some more," he muttered after pausing for a bit.

"I better do something else to distract me. Otherwise, I might really lose my mind here." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

'Should I be relieved? 'Cedric asked himself this question before letting out a sigh of his own.

It's nice to see that the Void Prince still remains as arrogant and complacent as ever. But you see, Cedric discovered something wrong about his behavior, one that he paid real close attention to.

'...the possibility isn't much, but it's there. I should observe him some more.'
