“Damn it!”

Three hung in the air, staring at the massive, serpentine monster before her with an expression of deep frustration.

“Where the hell did this monster come from?”

She and Four had scoured the entire small world when they first entered. At that time, the only notable creature they had discovered was just a mid-stage saint-level demon beast in the western forest.

Had they known about this monster, they wouldn’t have chosen this small world for their plan. They wouldn’t have sealed this world either, cutting off not only the target’s escape but also their own.

Yet, the plan they had deemed foolproof had unraveled the moment that naive little girl appeared out of nowhere to save Lilith.

The baby-like deity was more powerful than anticipated but Three had even accounted for this in her plan, allowing enough time to deal with it.

Originally, she had planned for one hour, but the window was reduced to just thirty minutes. Nevertheless, that should have been more than enough to take care of a little girl who hadn’t even broken through to the Saint Realm. The only difficulty was forcing the Dragon Princess to use that power.

But that hadn’t bothered her too much. She refused to believe that the Dragon Princess would hesitate to use it, even if she were on the brink of death.

What Three hadn’t expected, though, was for something else to jump out and ruin everything at the most critical moment!

It had started with that little girl, then Myre’s lingering will, and now this serpentine monster in front of her!

“And it’s a demigod-level demon beast huh…?” Three muttered in annoyance.

The serpentine monster named Greenie fixed its icy vertical pupils on Three, expressing vague, human-like anger. The bristles on the back of its neck danced wildly, each one connected to a mid-stage saint-level fish monster. These baits were densely packed along the demon beast’s neck—there must have been at least hundreds of them, if counted carefully.

A familiar fluctuation radiated around Greenie. It was faint, yet unmistakable—an imperfect manifestation of Authority!

That was the key difference between those in the Saint Realm and deities. Just as a mortal must pass through the Saint Realm to ascend, anyone wishing to become a god must first learn to harness and control the power of laws.

Authority, after all, was the fundamental law of the world. Regardless of how much a person could harness it, as soon as one set foot on the path of Authority, they were already stepping onto the threshold of the Divine Realm—the Demigod Realm.

“Really? Isn’t this a bit too much? I investigated this world thoroughly from the outside. I’m pretty sure there were only three demigods here,” Three muttered.

Yet, a strange snake appeared out of nowhere—an actual demigod!

Three clenched her teeth in frustration, not only enraged by the power of the obstacle before her but also furious at how close she had come to dying at its hands.

Just now, if Absolute Intuition hadn’t worked and allowed her to escape ahead of time, she would have been tricked by the strange fish bait released by the creature and became a meal served on its platter.

Hehe, if she had been swallowed by a demigod-level demon beast, this petite body would have been turned into a puddle of blood in an instant!

“What should I do now? Fight… or withdraw?”

Three began to feel uncertain about her next move.

If she fought, in her current state, she wasn’t sure she could defeat a demigod-level demon beast in less than ten minutes.

This demon beast’s intelligence was clearly comparable to that of a human. Seeing that Three hadn’t moved, it remained coiled in place, cautiously observing her instead of launching any immediate attacks. It seemed to sense that she was no easy opponent.

But withdraw?

That would mean all the work she had done so far was in vain!

The goal she had fought so hard to achieve would become nothing more than a discarded piece of paper or a wild goose chase!

Three looked down at her hands, feeling a deep confusion. They were white and small, not her own hands, but the hands she had taken from someone else.

Just a few minutes ago, she had completely annihilated that girl’s consciousness, all to solve this situation as quickly as possible.

In fact, if the girl hadn’t resisted, she would still have been a sliver of hope to regain control of her body because Three wouldn’t have permanently possessed this body.

But as the Dragon Princess had said, her hands were stained with blood. She had already become a sinner.

If she let that blood spill in vain, how could she still claim to stand on the side of justice?

Three recalled the words of the old woman before she departed.

“Ye must use code names, for the existence we now contend with is but the premonition of some ancient man. Should it truly exist, then ye shall be hailed as heroes of the Three Thousand Great World, honored by tens of thousands. But if it existeth not… we must not suffer the wrath of the Dragon Queen to scorch a certain world, nor a certain faction. Such loss would be unbearable. Ye would vanish, naught but dust buried in the sands of history.”

“Employ every means at thy disposal until ye know—beyond all doubt—whether that existence be real. Be it by killing, by fire, by abduction, possession of bodies, or staining the earth with rivers of blood—do what ye must. Hold fast to the belief that thy cause is just, for by thy hand, the greatest evil this world hath ever known may yet be sealed away.”

“The Great World can bear no more calamity—not as it did nine million years past, when thy forebears were left near death, drained of all but breath. Ye must not allow thy descendants, thy children and thy children’s children, to inherit that same suffering.”

“And Moen… nay, from this moment forth, thou art Three.”

These last words were spoken to Three alone—“Thy grandfather once saved the life of an entire world by his own strength. And though he did perish in that great calamity, in the end, he was truly worthy of the title ‘hero.’ Thy parents were but ordinary folk, and have long since turned to dust with the passing of time—but still do I hold hope that thou shalt take up thy grandfather’s will, and become a true hero thyself.”

Three still remembered the earnest hope in the old woman’s eyes at that moment.

She was not sure if that old b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲ was simply brainwashing them before they left for battle or if her words were sincere. Regardless, one sentence stuck with her forever.

“Thy grandfather was a hero.”

Yes, Grandfather had been a true hero—he had saved countless lives, and to this day, a statue of him stood on the great star of life that he had saved.

But in Three’s vague memories, Grandfather was just an old man who liked to smile kindly, with warm hands.

It had been nine million years. Back then, she had been a clueless child. Her real realm had extended her life span far beyond natural limits. Emotions were just a fleeting wave in the long river of existence.

Yet, why did her heart still ache so deeply whenever she thought of her grandfather’s face?

“Little Moen, you must grow up happily. Grandfather will always, always protect you.”

Suddenly, those words surfaced from the depths of her memory.

After a long silence…

“Sheesh…”
