Chapter 106: Unfinished Business

"Riven will spend just as many days at my house as he spends here. Remember that." freёnovelkiss.com

Soren didn’t flinch, his eyes gleaming with a dark amusement as he casually placed his hand on Ronan’s wrist. "Oh? Are you trying to make it fair? How noble of you. But I doubt our little wolf will last a day away from me. I’m not the one who broke his heart, remember?"

Ronan’s grip tightened, the leather of Soren’s collar creaking under the pressure. Riven could feel the pain and frustration radiating off of Ronan, and it was suffocating. His wolf instincts roared to comfort his mate, but he bit down the urge, knowing that doing so would only feed into Soren’s twisted satisfaction.

"Soren," Riven said sternly, his tone firm and leaving no room for argument. "Stop provoking him."

Soren huffed and shrugged, clearly unbothered as he let Ronan’s hand fall away. "Whatever you say, little wolf." He was bothered... But he saw Riven clutching his chest and understood that stupid dog was affecting his Riven.

He hated this, he hated that mating bond between them. He was going to stand by what he said. He was going to employ all his resources into finding a way to safely severe the bond.

Ronan straightened up, his hands trembling slightly from the pent-up emotion. He looked at Riven, and his shoulders slumped, his eyes filled with a mix of longing and regret. "I just... don’t want you to feel forced into anything," Ronan murmured. "I want to make this right. I just... I want to prove myself to you."

Riven let out a slow breath, his gaze softening despite himself. "I know," he said quietly, his voice gentle. "But it’s not about proving anything. It’s about moving forward without tearing each other apart."

Ronan hesitated, then gave a faint nod, though his eyes remained glued to the floor. He was still riled up, his emotions raw and exposed.

Riven felt a mix of emotions, but he always knew how to cheer himself up... Or, well, in this case, he cringed at the memory of a certain movie... With a certain character that would get in between two men who fought over her and says "No... This isn’t you..."

After the cringe sent shivers down Riven’s spine, he forced himself to forget that scene.

"So," Riven continued, forcing himself to sound practical despite the turmoil in his heart, "I guess that settles it. I’ll split my time between the two of you—one week with the wolf clan, one week with the snow leopard clan."

Both men reacted differently to the declaration. Soren merely hummed, clearly unsatisfied but not willing to challenge Riven’s decision. Ronan, on the other hand, finally relaxed his posture, though he still looked hesitant.

"You... really mean it?" Ronan asked, his voice a bit softer now.

"Yeah," Riven replied with a faint smile. "So, right after a week with Ronan... I will come back here." Riven looked at Soren, hoping for a positive reaction.

"I will be dragging you back by the tail if you don’t. So don’t worry about me." His ebony eyes grew colder as he said that. He did not like this arrangement, but he had to comply. Why could Riven not stay with him forever?

That Alpha could come over when... He had to... Ugh. He hated that thought. Ronan and Riven rolling in the sheets in his house? He would rather have his claws pulled out.

Soren turned on his heel, not sparing another glance at the two of them as he made his way out of the room. His footsteps were slow, deliberate, almost like he was dragging himself forward. Riven watched him go, his heart clenching uncomfortably.

He hated seeing Soren like this—so defeated, so hurt. The yandere who usually had his claws sunk into Riven’s soul, now seemed strangely vulnerable. It was a side of Soren that made Riven’s chest ache with an emotion he wasn’t used to dealing with.

Riven let out a shaky breath, trying to gather his thoughts. Before he could say anything, Ronan moved closer, reaching for Riven’s hands and holding them gently. Riven looked down, noticing how careful Ronan was being, as if afraid Riven might pull away.

"When do you want to leave?" Ronan’s voice was quiet, restrained, as if forcing himself to keep calm. There was a desperation in his gaze—an almost frantic need to prove himself and show Riven that he was trustworthy this time. Riven swallowed hard, trying to fight down the strange guilt that lingered in his chest.

He bit his lip, hesitating before answering. His eyes briefly flickered toward the door where Soren had just left, his mind still on that last look in Soren’s eyes.

His ears flattened. Even though he knew Soren wouldn’t admit it, he could tell that the snow leopard hated the idea of him leaving. But Riven couldn’t ignore his own instincts either. Raffy needed him. He’d left in such a rush that he wasn’t sure if his friend was safe.

Taking a deep breath, Riven forced himself to focus on the present. "Tomorrow. Morning," he finally replied, his voice steadier than he expected. "I can’t put it off any longer. There’s... too much unfinished business back there."

Ronan gave a subtle nod, though his thumb gently stroked over Riven’s knuckles, a quiet comfort that almost made Riven feel guilty. "Of course," Ronan murmured, trying to hide the way his shoulders tensed at the thought of Riven leaving. "I’ll make sure everything’s prepared by then. Just say the word, and I’ll handle it."

Riven’s lips quirked upward in a tiny, appreciative smile. "Thanks," he whispered, his gaze softening.

A silence settled between them—one that was heavy but not uncomfortable. It felt strange, knowing that Ronan was trying to restrain himself so much when, not so long ago, he would have just pulled Riven into his arms without a second thought. It was like Ronan was afraid that one wrong move would push Riven further away.

Ronan cleared his throat, hesitating before asking, "And... Tonight?"
