"President Qiao, please sign here."

Qiao Suisui took the contract and quickly scanned the contents to ensure there were no oversights. Unintentionally, her hand reached out to accept the pen passed by the staff member’s hands, but she accidentally touched the back of the other person’s hand.

"Sorry."

"It’s okay."

As the pleasant voice rang out, she looked up and saw a tall and handsome young man standing in front of her, with whom she didn’t recall any particular association.

"Did you just join the company?"

The young man seemed quite nervous, his ears turned a bit red, and he didn’t dare to look into her eyes.

"Yes, President Qiao, my internship lasts until this month."

Qiao Suisui inquired, "How do you find it here?"

The young man hurriedly responded, "The company is great, and so is the team atmosphere. I’ve learned a lot from you, President Qiao."

Qiao Suisui smiled, "I don’t seem to have worked directly with you on any business matters."

The light in the young man’s eyes flickered briefly, and he gathered his courage to look up, his entire face flushing as he said to Qiao Suisui, "During your campus recruitment, I was fortunate enough to attend a lecture you gave at our school. Since then, I’ve wanted to join your company."

She signed her name neatly at the bottom of the contract and handed back the pen, propping her chin as she tried to remember, then showed a somewhat apologetic expression, "Sorry, I visited many universities during the graduation season. Who are you?"

The young man looked a bit disappointed, speaking softly, "I’m three years junior to you, President Qiao."

"Ah, a junior," she winked at him, her smile now more relaxed.

At that moment, a knock on the door sounded.

They both looked towards the office door to see a tall young man standing there, dressed in a simple white T-shirt and light-colored jeans. His physique was perfectly proportioned, the muscles of his arms looking like they had been meticulously sculpted, not a bit too much or too little.

Almost instinctively, the male staff member felt that the newcomer wasn’t welcoming him, even detecting a fleeting hostility in the other’s dark eyes.

Qiao Jiming spoke up, "Am I interrupting?"

"No, we’ve just finished."

Qiao Suisui picked up her bag and rose to her feet, patting the young man on the shoulder, "Then you should seriously consider it after your defense."

Her company had already passed the start-up phase and was in the midst of expanding its scale. She was more than happy to absorb all sorts of talent, especially young people.

By saying this, she meant to indicate that she wanted him to become a formal employee of the company.

But the young man seemed to be lost in thought, his already reddened face growing even more apparent, so nervous that he was having trouble speaking clearly. "Okay, President Qiao, I will."

Having said this, he quickly left the office with his head down. As he passed by Qiao Jiming, he saw him gazing down at him.

Qiao Suisui gathered the things she needed, telling Qiao Jiming, "Let’s go, or Mother will have words for us if we’re late."

After a few steps, however, she noticed Qiao Jiming standing motionless by the door, head down, lost in thought. Qiao Suisui turned back and stood in front of him, asking, "What is it?"

"Are there a lot of little boys in your company?"

"?"

Qiao Suisui looked at him, not understanding what he meant.

"Since I got in the elevator, I’ve seen several. They all look pretty good."

She looked at Qiao Jiming and said, "What are you really trying to say?"

Qiao Jiming’s Adam’s apple shifted slightly, and he lowered his gaze to her. Today she was dressed in a black business suit with stilettos. Her long hair had been cut short, leaving a shoulder-length style that made her appear efficient yet exquisite, impossible to take one’s eyes off.

In these past years, after Mother Qiao and Father Qiao divorced, she lived alone and wasn’t in the best of health. As she aged, she began to rely on her children more, often calling them to come home for meals. Initially, Qiao Suisui did not go, nor did she answer the calls, but Qiao Jiming visited Mother Qiao once every two weeks. Eventually, it was a remark from Mother Qiao that awakened him.

"You two grew up together and have an inseparable bond. What’s more reliable than family?"

Upon hearing "an inseparable bond", Qiao Jiming felt a tingling, painful sensation crawl up to the tip of his heart, instantly filling his chest.

He and she were inseparable, and couldn’t be separated. He didn’t care whether their relationship was family, siblings, or something else; he had no extravagant hopes now, as long as he could see her, talk to her, that would be enough.

So he began to slowly boil the frog; on the surface, he was easing the estrangement between Qiao Suisui and Mother Qiao, always scheming to coax her home for meals with her mother. In reality, he was taking the opportunity to be with her.

As long as there were family interactions, he would always have the chance to stand by her side.

But that glaring scene just now had set a fire burning in Qiao Jiming’s chest.

Why was her side never clean?

"I want to say, young boys these days are different from before. They see a stronger older sister and will take the opportunity to latch on, thinking that being a little sweet and relying on a handsome face will be enough to leverage your resources."

Listening to this, a sour taste hit Qiao Suisui and, with a laugh, she said, "You’re not that much older than them."

"You’re comparing me to him?"

Qiao Suisui held her forehead, feeling increasingly unable to cope with Qiao Jiming lately. He hadn’t been this troublesome before.

"Alright, enough of that. Let’s hurry up and go; it’s going to be jammed on the road for a while."

Having said this, Qiao Suisui walked ahead to the elevator entrance. Qiao Jiming followed behind her without any expression, then, with a cold face, took the bag and the laptop from her hands. When the elevator doors opened, he expressionlessly blocked the doors for her, pressed B2, and throughout the journey, his face was sullen, not uttering a single word, but he did everything that needed to be done.

Ignoring him, Qiao Suisui walked to the driver’s seat and just as she opened the car door, Qiao Jiming pressed it shut.

"What’s the matter?"

"Sit in the passenger seat."

"Didn’t you say you’re not familiar with driving my car?"

Qiao Jiming lowered his eyes, glanced at her high heels, and frowned. "You drove here in those this morning?"

It was then she realized he was worried about her safety driving in high heels.

Just as she was about to walk around to the passenger side, Qiao Jiming stopped her from leaving.

"You haven’t answered me; how did you get here this morning?"

Mumbling, she replied, "Just like this."

Qiao Jiming’s face darkened even more. "Who brought you here?"

Seeing that she was not responding, he asked again, word by word, "Who drove your car from your home to the company and parked it here?"

Seeing the veins on his neck bulging, Qiao Suisui knew he was really angry and thus told him the truth.

"Gu Mengze."

Qiao Jiming paused as if trying to remember who Gu Mengze was; he didn’t have such a person in his head and thought it was some unsavory young man she had met at a drinking party, his chest heaving with anger.

"You let this kind of person into your home?"

Qiao Suisui sighed, her hand resting on his shoulder, her body unconsciously leaning into him a bit. The basement was chilly, but with the bodies of the two so close, their body heat entwined together, it didn’t feel cold, instead, Qiao Jiming felt a wave of heat.

"You’ve misunderstood; he’s my college classmate, I only saw him yesterday at a class reunion, and both Xixi and I drank a little too much. He was worried about us two girls getting back safely, so he gave us a ride."

Qiao Jiming was calmed by her gentle tone, but he still had doubts about the content of her words.

"Then why did he come out of your house with you this morning?"

"My house is big, and it was late at night; he didn’t have a car, and he lives far from me. Any normal person would invite someone to stay the night in a guest room, right?"

Qiao Jiming’s lips pressed together, and he didn’t say anything more.

Qiao Suisui smoothed down his hair, then turned and sat in the passenger seat. Qiao Jiming obediently followed and got into the car. Just as he buckled his seatbelt, Qiao Jiming felt something under his foot. He looked down, and his face instantly turned steely.

Qiao Suisui followed his gaze, and there, lying beside his foot, was a square aluminum package.

Uh-oh.

She had been found out.
