Chapter 185: Spirit of Destruction ( 185 )

The night sky had shifted.

Elvia stirred from her bed, her pointy ears twitching uneasily. Something felt off—different from usual.

She sat up, blinking as a strange red-orange glow seeped through the window. The room was quiet. The other children slept peacefully.

"What... is that?" she whispered softly.

Drawn by an inexplicable pull in her chest, Elvia grabbed a small wooden plank—barely longer than her arm—and silently crept out of the orphanage, barefoot, heading toward the flickering light.

Ahead of her, the forest was alive with roars, explosions, and fire.

Each step felt heavier than the last, but she couldn’t stop.

Peeking out from the bushes on the edge of the clearing, her eyes widened in surprise.

There he was.

The black-haired human—the scary man who yelled a lot, the one everyone said was crazy.

But now...

He wasn’t frightening.

He looked radiant.

Bathed in firelight, his silhouette danced like a legendary warrior. Flames swirled around him. With every move, monsters were brought down. His right leg ignited—he spun once—twice—then with a mighty burst, a huge beast was flung backward, consumed in a spiral of fire and ash.

Elvia held her breath.

He appeared... beautiful.

His back to her, eyes fixed only on the monsters before him, he stood firm. No fear. No hesitation.

Every movement was precise, strong, controlled—and somehow graceful.

She pressed her hands to her chest, her heart pounding.

"I didn’t know he could be like this..."

Not crazy.

Not just a loud, scary human.

Right now, to Elvia—

He looked like a hero.

Suddenly, Hazuki’s eyes shot open mid-air.

"What the—what the hell!?"

Before he could truly grasp what was happening, his body had already moved. His grip on the sword tightened as he slashed down with a roar, fending off a troll that lunged at him from the side.

"Oi!!"

Another beast charged. Hazuki spun mid-air, flames erupting along his sword as he cut clean through the monster.

He landed on his feet, crouched low, amidst a pile of steaming corpses.

"What’s going on?! Where am I?! Where are these monsters coming from?!" he yelled.

The forest echoed with growls and furious howls. Dozens more monsters emerged from the trees.

Hazuki’s eyes widened in rage and confusion.

"Tch! Ridan!! Damn it!! Where’s that perverted spirit?!" he shouted, fists clenched.

But no answer came—only the sound of advancing footsteps, pounding earth, and trembling ground.

His heart raced.

Suddenly, something inside him snapped.

He grinned—a twisted, wild smile that spread across his face. His pupils dilated.

Without thinking, the air around him seemed to warp slightly, mana pulsing from deep within.

"You want a fight, huh!?"

Crackle!

Hazuki’s sword burst into blazing flames as he channeled all his magic. The fire curled around his arm like a living serpent.

He took a step forward.

Then charged into the chaos.

"GYAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

His wild laugh echoed louder than the snarls of the beasts.

His body moved faster than his mind could follow. Every slash ignited flames. Every kick crushed monsters. Blood sprayed, screams echoed. The chaos seemed unstoppable.

"Oh yeah!! Fight or die!! Gyahahahah!!"

Hazuki’s voice echoed wildly through the forest like a crazed bell.

He launched into the air, spinning rapidly like a whirlwind surrounded by flames. His sword blazed with crimson fire. He sliced through the air—and then into a monstrous ogre’s shoulder, burning deep down to the bone as he crashed into the ground with a thunderous explosion.

BOOM!

Ash and dirt shot outward.

Before the next fireball even reached him, Hazuki kicked off the ground—spinning backward effortlessly, causing the spell to explode harmlessly beneath him.

"Too slow, freak!!"

His boots touched down just briefly, channeling mana into the sword—fire transforming into ice in an instant.

His next move was lightning-fast.

He shot forward, sword shining with icy blue. The moment he closed in, he drove the blade straight through a reptilian beast’s neck. The freezing shock spread instantly, turning the creature into a crystal statue.

"Oh!! This is good exercise!"

Hazuki’s laughter grew louder.

"Well, Ridan couldn’t see this—WAKAKAKAKAKA!!"

His wild laughter tore through the night as he sliced into the next monster’s shoulder. Blood sprayed, steam rose, and fire danced from the blade.

He attacked with only instinct—no hesitation, no plan.

A high-level ogre raised its club and roared. But Hazuki was already behind it. His foot slammed into the beast’s spine, flames bursting from his heel with the impact.

CRACK!

The ogre flew into a nearby tree, snapping it in half with a deafening crack.

"Come on!! Is that all you’ve got!?" Hazuki roared, smashing his fist into the ground.

The shockwave sent smaller goblins flying away.

He quickly grabbed a nearby stone, a wicked grin forming.

"Elemental control: fireball throw!!"

The stone lit up red as he squeezed it.

With all his strength, he hurled it like a baseball.

BOOM!

It exploded on contact, incinerating three monsters in a burst of flames and debris.

Hazuki’s grin stretched from ear to ear. Every vein in his body throbbed with mana. His boots flared with power each time he moved.

"Too slow! Too weak! You call yourselves monsters!?" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

A troll roared behind him.

Hazuki didn’t turn around. He ducked, grabbed a second stone, and this time—channeling ice.

He spun and slammed it into the troll’s face.

SHATTER!!

The upper half of the troll’s head froze and cracked apart like fragile glass.

"No magic needed! Just my fists, my blade, and some damn rocks!!"

He faced the rest of the horde.

"And plenty more of you freaks left!! GOOD!!! GYAHAHAHAHA!!"

Ridan expelled himself from Hazuki’s body with a soft whoosh, disappearing into a faint glow that quickly dissolved into the wind. Hazuki, lost deep in his berserker rage, didn’t notice.

Hovering above the chaos, Ridan crossed his arms, eyes watching the wild battlefield.

"Heh... this idiot’s physical strength is already like that of a mid-tier war beast," he muttered. "But he’s still too raw. No AoE magic, no support spells, no battlefield control. If those two geezer are serious about the next mission, then yeah—he’s not ready."

A burst of flame shot up behind him as Hazuki flipped mid-air, crashing down onto another beast with brutal force.

Ridan smirked, but inside his mind, something else kept nagging at him.

What exactly is coming next? And why do they need me for it?

Then, Hazuki’s voice cut through the trees.

"AH! There you are, Ridan!!" Hazuki shouted. "Where the hell were you!?"

Ridan flinched slightly, then spun around with a completely casual expression.

"Huh? I was just floating around the orphanage! Enjoying the night breeze," he lied smoothly.

Hazuki stomped forward, his boots still faintly burning.

"Breeze my ass! I woke up in the middle of a monster mosh pit!! Were you trying to get me killed!?"

"Please, like anything in this forest could kill you now." Ridan lazily floated nearby. "Besides, I left you some gifts. You’re welcome."

Hazuki grumbled and cracked his neck. "Damn spirit... at least warn me next time you hijack my body."

"Hijack? Such an ugly word. Let’s call it... borrowing," Ridan said casually.
