Back when he was trapped alone in the laboratory, with nothing else to do and being the type of autistic scientist that he was, all Sigmund had done was to study the virus.

"I never managed to synthesize properly and I do need further study," he said, that monotonous voice of his droning. "That’s why I need those equipment."

"We really did bring it with us."

"Where?"

"We have our ways," she told him, very vaguely.

Sigmund looked at her for a while before taking away his gaze. He knew that there was no more information that he could get from her, so he shifted his attention back to the leading soldier.

"Another thing I need to see. Your powers," he said, "Let me observe each one of them."

"Why?" Kylo asked. Although they didn’t hide their skills, it was still uncomfortable to let them be studied so closely.

It was a basic self-preservation instinct.

Sigmund looked at them, "I want to see how your powers work because it could help me."

They looked at him, and he had no choice but to explain himself if he wanted to get the material he needed.

"You mentioned that those who awaken would have some immunity against undead with lower levels, correct?

"I need to study what makes you different."

"You cannot experiment on us."

"But I will borrow some blood when we get to the safe base."

"Seems fair."

"Why do you need to see how it works then?" Cauis asked, and Sigmund answered him promptly.

"I want to determine how you change the environment to the point of controlling the elements. Ideally, I would also like to determine the direction of your mutations."

He then closed his mouth and looked at them, not in the mood to explain further.

He felt that he had spoken as many words today as he had in earlier part of his almost three decades of living.

After a short discussion, the group decided to help him out and show their abilities to him.

The first to show off was Kaize (because of course he was). He set his hands ablaze, also getting the admiration and envy of the soldiers.

"To be able to ignite fire without fuel… or is it your hand? Does your hand transform fuel.."

He droned on as he watched Kaize’s hand ablaze.

Next was Cauis, who controlled the loose soil near the canteen.

"Hm, controlling earth as if it’s a part of you…" he asked, "Can you manipulate other soil types like rocks?"

Cauis nodded, "But it’s a bit more challenging."

Sigmund noted this down. "This is interesting." He said, writing down in his notebook that was always inside his pocket

Next was Kylo, who also activated his skill from a safe distance from the others. Somehow, Sigmund had eye protectors that functioned as sunglasses in his inner pockets.

He wore it to stare at Kylo’s show of skill, jotting down note after note. "To generate electricity at will…" he mumbled.

He looked at the soldiers and Jacob.

The soldiers shook their heads. "We don’t have the ability yet."

"Who else, then?"

"Me~" A sing-song voice sounded, making most men smile in response.

Sigmund’s eyebrows rose at the sight of Khalifa moving in front of him.

His change of expression was barely imperceptible, but Khalifa had been watching him closely enough to know the difference.

So cute, she thought.

"So surprised? Why do you think I’m part of the team, anyway?"

"Bed Partner," Sigmund answered quite frankly. This raised a few hackles, of course, and a few men lifted their arms to probably beat him up.

Khalifa giggled, waving them off. "It’s fine. It’s not entirely untrue, anyway."

The soldiers blushed and pretended not to hear, while Sigmund’s expression remained unchanged.

"Show me how you change states."

"Yes, doc~"

At first, she just stood up like a beautiful statue. She then lifted her arms, her palms facing each other and leaving a few centimeters of space in between.

Very soon the waters around condensed out of nowhere, congealing in the area between her palms. The water ball turned into a snake, floating beautifully around her hands, fingers, and palms.

He actually looked a bit impressed—in his standard, anyway—and Khalifa felt like smiling.

Sigmund met her smile and froze a bit, before refocusing on the fascinating ball floating between her palms.

The men saw a difference in the atmosphere between the two and frowned, with two men immediately standing next to Khalifa as if guards.

"We can show you more techniques," Cauis said, and Kaize nodded.

Sigmund’s sights took a beat before pulling away from Khalifa’s, nodding at the other two men.

While the three were busy, tanned strong arms wrapped around her flat stomach, and a wet tongue licked her ears.

"Naughty girl, are you trying to seduce a robot?" he asked, continuing with his seductive lapping.

Khalifa shut her eyes as she felt pleasurable tingles. She smiled, caressing Hugo’s head as he licked her ears, neck, and shoulders.

"I just thought he was interesting," she said, giggling, "Besides, like you said, he’s a robot. You’ve got nothing to worry about."

He placed her on the table and he stood between her legs, meeting her lips for a passionate kiss.

The other men sighed and didn’t look, while Sigmund’s red eyes inexplicably ended there for one second before focusing on the elemental display in front of him.

He seemed a little less interested this time though.

Later that night, after dinner, the group assigned rooms.

"We will go at dawn tomorrow morning," Kylo said, "Recuperate well. Tomorrow’s trip will be quite… burdensome."

He then looked in a direction, "Don’t sleep too late."

He looked straight at Jacob and Cauis, who were already looking at Khalifa hungrily.

It was fortunately their turn tonight, and they were understandably eager to pull down the curtains.

Caius looked and looked back at the blue-eyed soldier staring at them blankly.

"We know our limits," he said, "We’ll definitely… control our situation well."

Sigmund watched as Khalifa went into a room with the curly-haired man and the bespectacled man.

Although he knew—and despised—this area, he still knew enough about the world to know what was going on.

He was roomed with the two soldiers and they settled down nicely, taking nice baths with the help of Khalifa’s water.

It was Sigmund’s turn first, and he couldn’t help but put his hand on the bucket assigned to him. He just sat like that deep in thought.

"Are you alright?" Abu asked, seeing that the scientist had yet to close the door.

To their surprise, the man just came out as he entered, looking at them.

"Other than the small case encountered before, only Khalifa and her men had abilities so far, correct?"

"Well, yes," the soldier said.

Sigmund touched his chin in thought, red eyes focusing in a direction where the woman was, no doubt performing coitus with two men.

"Interesting."
