The journey back naturally wasn’t easy. After all, they came by helicopter for a reason—going by land would take time and was very dangerous.

It would be like willingly entering a colony of fire ants, with every inch of skin surrounded and bitten within a few seconds.

They all cringed at the image.

"Didn’t the general say there was a helicopter here?"

"Yes, but it was too near the building that got demolished by the bomb."

"Darnit! If I find out who put those bombs—" Hugo growled and a few metals around him shook in his anger.

Whoever killed Joel would really get it!

Paul was one person, but the real masterminds needed to be dealt with more.

Cauis arranged his glasses as he thought. "They’re likely deep in the territory or, at least, partnering with someone in power."

"What do you suggest?"

"Return incognito."

Kaize burst the bubble immediately. "The problem of returning still exists."

"..."

Kaize looked around. "Aren’t there tanks or something? Isn’t this a premier government facility?"

"It’s where helicopters are…" Besides, if there were tanks, wouldn’t someone use them already?

"..."

This meant they weren’t protagonists of a story because things were being much too inconvenient for them.

But… they weren’t too much in a rush anymore. After all, they already had the scientist.

They decided to take a breather in a building not far away, perhaps they could be refreshed enough to think of a bright idea.

"There are staff dormitories a few hundred meters west."

"There should be cars there."

"I’ll try to outfit what I can." Hugo said.

"Sounds like a plan."

Heaving a deep breath with weapons up, the party went down to face the zombies.

Fortunately, as an exclusive facility, this area didn’t have as many zombies compared to outside the walls.

The mob overwhelmed them before because they were so tired and weren’t clear on where to go. They also went without knowing what else they’d encounter and how long they still had to fight.

They didn’t want to be chased by mobs again and risk accidents. So they decided to clear out as many zombies outside as they could, they’d be getting decent rest afterward anyway.

"Be careful," Khalifa said, and the men nodded, proceeding with the plan.

The current strategy was to open the door and lead a pile of them in before closing again. This way, they could all handle a mob at the center, their attacks being much more efficient than before.

Then they would incinerate them and do everything until the mobs outside lighten up.

It was Hugo and Cauis who were set to open and close the door, by virtue of the convenience of their abilities in blocking and unblocking the door, as well as escaping to the interior balconies with the others when they had to.

The two looked at each other as they stood by the doors. They nodded and simultaneously used their abilities to take down the wall protecting them.

Sigmund blinked with slightly wider eyes—as much of a surprised expression he could ever give—as he looked at the elements that appeared shortly after.

Cauis made walls and spikes made of earth, Kaize hands blasted fire balls that burned the enemy, while Kylo was surrounded by sparks that destroyed them.

Similarly, the soldiers shot the zombies with pinpoint accuracy.

"I see…" he mumbled, walking along the balcony and observing the attacks closely. "This makes sense."

Khalifa, who was also walking next to him, heard him mumbling, "Tell us more about what you know about the virus later."

He nodded, also wanting to know more detailed information.

As they traversed, he couldn’t help but notice a particular person going to and fro, ignored by zombies right next to him.

It was Jacob, easily killing within the mob, ignored as if… he was one of them.

Red eyes stayed on Jacob for a long time, not knowing what they were thinking.

This lasted for about an hour until the hundreds of zombies outside had mostly been dealt with.

Sigmund’s eyebrows rose as he watched the zombies dealt with smoothly, without a single loss to their party.

He then looked at the woman, not bad-looking but wasn’t doing anything. What was her use? A bed partner to all these men?

"I feel your judging stare so far away," she told him, and he shifted his gaze back to the clean up below.

"Can you blame me?"

Instead of a scoff or an offended remark, however—something he was used to receiving with his tactlessness—she only giggled in response.

But he didn’t ask and they all went outside, just as easily handling the remaining patches of zombies that came their way.

Soon they arrived at the dormitory, killing the zombies they encountered and going inside, immediately barring the doors.

They found a relatively clean dormitory room upstairs, while also cleaning up the kitchen below.

Most of the food had naturally gone bad, but it so happened that there were a few noodles and rice available. Through Khalifa, they also snuck some jerkies and pickles into the finds

The group sat in the small canteen of that dormitory building, with Sigmund understandably eating a lot.

Of course, he still looked classy and unbothered even if his food was disappearing within a couple of blinks.

They also ate for a bit before starting the discussion.

It was Kylo who broke the silence some time. later, looking at their lone rescue. "Tell us more about the virus."

Although they knew plenty from the books and Mira’s prophecies, there might still be unknown knowledge from the leading mind himself.

"We called the virus X-56, something the planet released to us."

He enumerated a few things, most of which they already knew. For instance, the virus predominantly targeted humans, the zombies had crystals in their hearts, and how it affected plant and animal life on the planet.

Sigmund’s eyebrows rose a bit when he saw they were unsurprised.

"You know?"

Khalifa answered him. "I told you before that someone with prophetic abilities said so. It’s basically still your findings, but we know it earlier."

He nodded, and she mentioned she also had some dreams as well.

He looked at everyone strangely. "Why do you still ask me questions?"

"The girl isn’t very smart. We thought she might’ve forgotten a few details," she said with a smile."Besides, you probably spent all that time underground studying, did you not?"

Sigmund’s red eyes stayed on her, still unreadable.

"I have been trying to formulate a cure."

This made everyone’s spine straighten and they looked at him in anticipation.

It actually made his stomach fall a bit.

"The prophetic girl didn’t say anything?" he asked. They shook their heads, making him frown.

Did he not succeed, after all?

However, before he could fall into the trap of over-analysis, he heard of a familiar soothing voice.

"Well, we’re sure you will succeed," she smiled, "We’ll do whatever it takes."
