Chapter 223: Lesson 1

At first, Uva didn’t even respond, which made Violet even more nervous than before as she watched her family head towards the door. Her gaze focused on Uva, who stared right back at her with a smile on her lips, picking up her cup of tea that had been refilled. She slowly sipped it with a satisfied look on her face, while Violet was internally on the verge of panic.

Glancing from Uva to her family and back to Uva, whose body language made it clear that she wasn’t going to do a thing, Violet felt her anxiety spike. It was worse because, at that moment, Violet couldn’t suddenly ask her for the reason, especially since her family was already close enough to hear every word that would be said.

But just as they were about to pass beside her with huge smiles on their faces, Violet turned to look at them and smiled—a huge grin directed at Sarah, who was surprised but didn’t hesitate to engage. freёwebnoѵel.com

"Oh! Hello!" Sarah said, moving towards Violet with lightning speed and a huge welcoming smile on her face as she pulled Oliver forward with her. "I noticed that you kept staring in our direction, and I intended to say hello!" Sarah spoke politely, even as Oliver offered a polite smile of interest, his gaze wavering from Uva, who had a nonchalant look on her face with her legs crossed, to Violet, whose expression had become much more stiff.

They look ordinary, but the fact that they can come here means that they must be rich! were the thoughts going through the siblings’ heads, since meeting rich people was the main reason they had come to such an expensive place that they clearly could not afford.

"Yes!" Uva suddenly sighed, leaning forward with a smile of her own. "We should meet again! Us young people should get along. I could introduce you to some of our friends!" Uva said, getting to her feet even as Violet didn’t hesitate to do the same.

Staring at Uva, looking for clues only to get none, Violet followed as Uva finished her cup and grabbed her by the arm. They all headed out the door together. Of course, they had just stepped out when the bodyguards immediately moved towards them in their imposing suits and stony faces to separate them from the family. Uva only waved them off after they had done so.

"They are such a bother, right..." she mumbled with a chuckle, even as Sarah chuckled in response, which Oliver, Luke, and June copied, their eyes beginning to twinkle as they focused their gaze on Uva and Violet—like one would stare at a bar of gold suddenly found on the streets.

"I can give you my number or get yours! We can meet here again or somewhere else..." Sarah hurriedly offered, and Uva also nodded her head. Violet was about to pass her phone to Sarah, only for Uva to gently snatch it and hand it over herself before receiving it after Sarah was done putting her phone number in.

"We’ll meet again!" Oliver said with a softer smile, his brown hair combed back, making him more charming. But Violet noticed none of that as she stared into his eyes and saw none of the callousness she expected to find there. Her father and mother held each other like they were nothing but a loving couple, standing back as they watched their children make new friends.

"Of course...I hope to see you soon!" Violet responded, forcing the smile back to her face in order not to appear too cold, and waved at them before turning back. Uva held onto their arms as they turned towards the car. The bodyguards dashed forward to open the doors for them and help them in before the doors were closed, and the guards got in and drove off.

"Oh! My! GOD!" Sarah gasped, on the edge of panic, as her lips and eyes continued to widen in excitement. She turned around to look at the car that she could still see in the distance. "Their clothes look ordinary, but did you see the car...the guards..." she continued. "The life I could live...the people I could meet once I become...cough...cough...their friend!" She rubbed her nose a little after a light cough as she excitedly grabbed Oliver, who smiled just as hard.

"I get it—I get it! If I can seduce at least one of them, especially the one that seemed more friendly and awkward, it would be good for our family!" Oliver said with a nod as he smirked and proudly rubbed his chin, even as Luke jealously fumed within himself. The women were young, and with how nicely they were dressed, he could definitely see how easy it would be to seduce them and improve the standards of his life.

I don’t even need to marry them! But that works too... Different thoughts of how he could achieve it flashed through his mind as he suddenly watched Oliver sneeze right next to him, rubbing his nose slightly just before he coughed.

Luke was just about to warn them not to forget to reach out as soon as possible when he suddenly felt an itch under his chin, one he immediately began to scratch as he spoke. "You both should—is it the weather...I feel strangely warm!" he said as he continued to frantically itch against the sides of his neck.

June leaned closer to look at where he itched, touching it with a worried look on her face. "There’s nothing. We should head home and quickly take a bath!" she whispered softly and with care, leaning closer to blow air against it as she touched it, hoping to help.

But seconds had barely gone by as they continued to walk when she immediately began to scratch her hands with a slight panic on her face.

"Was it...cough...cough...what we ate..." Sarah began to speak, on the verge of panic, only to stop as her cough got worse. They all hurried their steps and decided to take a taxi, only to be thrown out a second later when they all showed all manners of behavior that the taxi driver refused to abide.

Unable to do anything else, they quickly ran home as fast as they could, hoping that whatever was wrong would fix itself after a bath and some rest.

"I got her number! That should—" Violet began to say, only to be cut off by Uva, who giggled to herself with a look of utter delight on her face as she spoke.

"Already done! I did it when I passed the phone to her..." Uva explained before raising her index finger and turning a severe teacher’s look at Violet as she continued to speak. "Lesson number 1: Magic doesn’t always have to be through direct contact."

"It can be indirect, and its effect would be a hundred percent something that can’t be guarded against—as long as it’s not against a Witch!"
