Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 222: What’s the plan?
Chapter 222: What’s the plan?
"Wh-what?" Violet stuttered, her eyes widening in shock as she tried to confirm that the words she heard had indeed come out of Uva’s mouth. "Re-revenge? How? I mean—" She glanced at their table once again, only to shift her gaze back to Uva just before she could meet Sarah’s eyes, who seemed to be paying more attention to her than before.
"I want them to pay, but I can’t even think of how to make it happen. Moreover, it’s not like they can find out who I am..." Violet responded with a deep sigh, staring at her hands as her thoughts began to drift elsewhere.
But Uva’s voice was low and fierce as she lightly tapped on the table, drawing Violet’s attention back to her. "I can help you, as long as you don’t hold back!" Uva began, a light smile spreading across her lips as she continued to speak, imagining how it would play out in her head. "I could poison them... they won’t die, but trust me, they would wish they did."
"Moreover, it would ensure that the sickness would be something they would spend all their money on!"
Violet was about to shake her head at Uva’s suggestion, only to pause as she glanced at their table once again, staring at the excitement on their faces as they waited for their food to arrive. Without Cain... who knew what hell she would be rotting in while they went to fancy restaurants without any thought of her.
"...There are other things. I could also—"
"The sickness is good enough!" Violet interrupted, a dark look in her eyes as she spoke. She could feel deep within her chest that she wouldn’t even care if something more drastic were to happen to them.
"Good! Then it’s settled!" Uva whispered in response, about to say more only to pause as she noticed the waiter moving closer to their table with two trays of food in her hands. The waiter balanced the teacups superbly, not spilling even the tiniest bit as she placed them on the table with a smile on her face.
"Enjoy!" she beamed with a light nod of her head before heading off to another table.
Violet’s gaze was still focused on her family, who had also been served and were now gushing over the trays in front of them, when Uva began to speak to her.
"We should eat! Your tea is going to get cold, and you don’t—"
"When are you going to do it? Poison them?" Violet asked, too impatient to wait any longer, aware that if she could do it herself, she wouldn’t hesitate to do so at that very moment.
"You’re asking for my help, and you’re rushing me?" Uva lightly asked as she picked up the teacup on her tray and took a sip, her lashes fluttering with a satisfied expression on her face before she lowered the cup back to the table. She urged Violet to do the same.
"I’ll get to it. In the meantime, I’ll also give you lessons. It’ll be a—what’s it called—a win-win!" Uva mumbled in a low tone as she began to chomp on her toast with delight, a grand expression on her face.
Violet did her best to emulate such an expression, even if at times her gaze still drifted over to her family, who also seemed to have noticed her wandering gaze and were now discussing her among themselves.
Not wanting to draw more attention than she already had, Violet lowered her head and focused instead on the food in front of her, her eyes widening ever so slightly in surprise to note that it was just as good as Uva had pointed out.
They had just finished eating and were clearing up the plates when Uva suddenly gestured to one of the guards outside, who immediately walked in and went ahead to pay. Uva beamed to herself with delight, her face and eyes youthful, nothing like the old woman she truly was.
"There’s nothing like spending someone else’s money!" she mumbled in delight to herself, even as she continued to sit while Violet stared at her, having decided to trust her and no longer glanced at her family.
Glancing at them does nothing! I might as well wait for Uva to teach me something like she promised to! Violet thought, happy that she didn’t have to wait long before Uva began to speak.
Uva explained how magic was something that was in every witch’s body and simply needed to be activated, which she would help Violet with. She pointed out that while witches could generate magic with their bodies, it was only in extremely small amounts depending on the bloodline, and most of what was used had to be stored before it could be used. For example, for entering walls, Uva had used almost four days’ worth of magic just to achieve such a feat.
"We can do magnificent things, but we also have great limits."
"If not... we’d definitely rule the world instead of trying to hide from werewolves who are always trying to kill us!" she mumbled in an even lower voice that Violet had to struggle to hear, even though she sat really close to Uva, who spoke with a deep sigh.
"Why though? I understand Cain’s hatred for witches, but why do werewolves and witches have so much hatred?" Violet asked, having heard that it was almost as bad with Reds but just worse with werewolves.
But she was barely done speaking when Uva was already shaking her head as she responded, "...What do you think most potions are made from, especially the one I used to fix your eyes?"
"The regenerative power of werewolf blood is nothing to scoff at, most importantly the heart..."
Violet balked, her heart thumping from the shock of what she had heard. "You kill werewolves?" she asked, catching herself in time before her voice could carry.
"Their hearts can be used after death, but the demand is great. And yes... even werewolves kill and sell themselves. For Reds, there are blood slaves, and for werewolves, there are slave towers too!"
"Even humans have underground rings..." Uva responded with a nonchalant shrug that showed she really didn’t care.
They kill us because they hate us, and we kill them for profit... whoever is weaker does!
Violet could clearly see Uva’s stance, but that didn’t make it any less surprising as she realized that most people with power didn’t actually shy away from killing, almost as if it were an ordinary thing. Her mind flashed to the man Cain had used her hands to kill, a frown appearing on her face, only for her attention to be forced back to reality as she heard the subtle sounds of chairs scraping against the ground.
Raising her head, she saw that her family was done eating and was about to leave. Her gaze instantly shifted to Uva with a hint of panic in her eyes.
We’re not just going to let them leave, are we? She was aware that the moment they did, their paths might never meet again.ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
