Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 266: Mess
Chapter 266: Mess
It was clear that Henry hadn’t noticed whatever had made Violet freeze as he continued to speak. "We should get out of here and head outside! The pillars still look strong, but we shouldn’t take any chances!"
"I know more werewolves that have died from being crushed under a building than from being shot in the chest!" he said, meaning every word and not trying to be funny.
But he had just shifted his gaze down from the crumbling roof and the cracks in the walls, settling his gaze on Cain, when he also froze, not moving a single part of his body as he stared in utter shock.
His mouth was closed, but his eyes had grown two sizes bigger as he stared at Cain, taking deep breaths in before he instantly turned around the second he heard footsteps below him.
"Sir Henry, the—" but Henry didn’t let him finish, instantly grabbing the cloak from him and ordering him to back away with such intensity that not only was the guard taken unawares by the suddenness of it, but he couldn’t help but instantly respond.
Uva, who had been standing by the stairs with her arms crossed, waiting for Henry to pick Cain up and for them to leave, had clearly seen Henry’s face become pale. She saw the way he snatched the cloak from the guard before tossing it at Cain’s head. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
She wasn’t stupid! There was clearly something wrong, which made her instantly step forward. She felt more courageous now that Cain was not only in his human form but clearly still hadn’t woken up.
"What’s wrong?" she asked Henry even before she got close enough, but instead of responding, Henry simply shifted to the side, pointing toward Cain’s body with a deep frown on his face, even as Violet gasped, tears filling her eyes as she turned to look at her.
"Uva!" she cried, and that was all Uva needed to know that something was indeed wrong—enough for the two people in front of her to want to keep it a secret.
Uva instantly moved closer, even as Henry moved behind her to shield her and Cain with his body. Uva bent to lift the cloak off Cain’s face to see what the matter was.
She could clearly see the gentle way his body heaved up and down, which meant that he was fine and breathing well.
Different thoughts were still going through her head as she raised the cloak when suddenly her eyes focused on the face in front of her. She drew an unconscious breath as a gasp slowly but surely escaped her mouth.
"Oh!"
"Oh!" she gasped again, unable to shift her eyes from the two fluffy beast ears that were still wriggling on top of his very human head.
This is not good! she thought, having never heard of such a phenomenon happening before. But as concerned as she was, she was also enamored by the concept as a witch, already able to imagine the experiments she could use his blood for.
"Uva!" Violet’s loud calling of her name was the only thing that ripped her mind back from where it had traveled. Snapping her head to the side and away from Cain’s head, which she had been staring at in a bewitched manner.
"Uva! This is bad, right?" she asked with visible concern on her face as she realized that Uva had indeed been trying to help. She couldn’t imagine the consequences of what would have happened if she had gone ahead to feed Cain the entire thing.
Tears flowed down her face as she realized that she would not only have killed him but would have done something much worse.
"We—we can’t allow him to be seen!" she gasped, even as she held him, using her body to cover most of him as she hovered over his slightly covered body with concern on her face.
"What are we going to do?" she asked, turning to look at Henry, who looked just as stunned as he tried hard not to stare at his lord. Aware that if anyone had told him that such a thing could happen, he wouldn’t have believed them and would have simply sworn that they were lying.
The evidence in front of him still made him feel like he was stuck in a dream, and he wasn’t the only one. Uva, still a bit spellbound, raised her hand and stretched it out to touch the huge fluffy ears on Cain’s head, wanting to touch them, completely ignoring Violet’s question as she fixed her gaze on them.
But her fingers had just been seconds away from touching them when she suddenly felt a painful grip wrap around her wrist, jerking her back.
This time, the force that flung her away was merciless, flinging her right into the wall like she was nothing but a nasty bug to be crushed. Uva crumpled against the wall, blood splattering out of her mouth as she felt several of her bones break on impact.
She was unable to breathe as blood continued to flow from her mouth. The only thing she could do was use the last of her strength to dig her hands into her bag and bring out a few potions that could help.
Her vision was too blurred to see what was written there, so she simply went ahead to pour both into her mouth, realizing that the longer she hesitated, the worse her condition would become until she could no longer move.
Uva had just been flung away like a rag doll when Violet, who had been sitting on Cain, suddenly widened her eyes, jerking away with fear, only to freeze as her eyes met Cain’s golden-brown ones as he held her gaze.
"You look like a mess," he said, reaching forward to wipe the corners of her eyes where tears still streamed down her face, even as she looked at him with a mixture of joy and alarm.
