Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 297: A kiss
Chapter 297: A kiss
But instead of responding, Vazer simply raised his gaze to fix it on Cain’s face for a few seconds.
He stared quietly at him before turning around to leave without so much as opening his mouth to utter a single word.
Henry’s mouth dropped open in shock the slightest bit, but he hurriedly shut it, masking his face with a strong expression after his small mishap.
He watched as Vazer walked back into the mansion and shut the door behind him without another word.
It was obvious to everyone there that Cain had been blatantly ignored, and what was even more surprising was the way he didn’t seem to take it to heart, placing his hand on Violet’s back as he turned around to leave.
Even the Red guards who were there, who had been snickering under their breath, couldn’t help but be stunned, especially given Cain’s reputation, which preceded him wherever he went by miles.
Instead of paying attention to them, Cain focused on Violet, waiting until they had both entered the car, with her in his arms and sitting on his lap, before he spoke to her. frёewebnoѵēl.com
"Are you alright?" he gently asked, but he was yet to finish the question when Violet instantly burst into quiet tears.
She had been holding it back and had intended for them to get home before she spoke to Cain, only to become even angrier as she felt tears slide down her face.
"You’re not just going to let him go, are you?" she asked Cain with red-rimmed eyes as she stared right into his, clearly not pleased by what she found there.
"He—he tortured me!" she stuttered in a low tone, trying not to make a fuss, and failing the more Cain stared back at her in utter silence instead of using words.
For a second, she wanted to explode and would have if not for the fact that Henry was still in the car and they were still moving.
The pain of what she had gone through was still vivid, and she was even more annoyed by the silent apology she had received as Vazer led her out through the entrance.
A tiny whisper, so low that it was almost like it had never existed.
’How was it okay that he got to do something like that and got away with it?’ Violet thought, confident that Cain had found Vazer’s sister, which was the only reason he had given her back.
The memory was enough to harden her heart toward Vazer, not caring the least bit about whether or not his family was dead.
’For all I know, they could have been as bad as he was!’ she thought, aware that noble Reds like that killed humans for sport, something she still mostly saw herself as instead of a ’Witch.’
For a moment more, Violet wanted to push forward, only to release a deep sigh, leaning down into Cain’s body, her eyes fluttering shut as she decided at the final moment to simply wait until they got back to the privacy of their room.
Henry continued driving the car with a look on his face that showed he was completely deadpan and dumb, in no way listening to the one-sided conversation Violet was trying to keep private.
Even he was surprised that Cain had somehow managed to get Vazer’s sister, as he had demanded, without him being aware of it.
’Did he send one of the elite guards in while he distracted Javi? Was that why he ran off at the end?’ Henry thought vigorously to himself, but no matter how much he tried to think about it, he couldn’t figure it out and finally gave up.
Instead, he concentrated on driving and making sure that nothing went wrong as they headed back to the mansion and back to their district.
’At least right now, all is well!’ he thought to himself, realizing that whatever god was in the sky had transferred his prayers and somehow, he had survived another blissful day.
He drove quickly, aware that he wasn’t the only one who needed to get back.
More than an hour later, Henry was driving right back to Cain’s mansion. Cain was still awake, but by the sound of Violet’s breathing, it was clear that she was asleep, even as he moved to park the car in the driveway.
Getting out to open the door for Cain like he was supposed to, he was surprised to see that not only had Cain immediately stepped out, but he also carefully held Violet in a way that showed he was taking extra care to ensure he didn’t wake her.
Waving Henry off the next second from following him, he headed inside. The servants he passed knew better than to greet him loudly as they bowed, especially when they saw the woman he carried in his arms, a face they were already used to.
Cain slowly headed upstairs as fast as he could, a bit relieved to get into his room as he closed the door behind him. He wasn’t too surprised to see that every single thing had been fixed and nothing was out of place.
The raging headache in his skull was now bad enough that he could no longer ignore it, but at the same time, he knew that the only person who would know what was wrong was a witch.
Slowly, he moved to place Violet on the bed, staring at her face with a light smile, even as his fingers brushed through her hair, which looked short brown but which he knew was actually midnight black.
His fingers brushed the nape of her neck where he had bitten her and bonded with her—a bond he could still feel—and he was surprised by how much he enjoyed being latched to someone else.
He had just gently brushed against it when he suddenly felt her lean into him, only to feel her move closer, her eyes fluttering open the next instant.
Her eyes weren’t fully open yet when Cain instantly bent lower to kiss her lips, something he had wanted to do the second she had dashed into his arms.
