Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 296: Even?
Chapter 296: Even?
Cain watched him dash away, his gaze turning much colder than before as he fixed it on the entirety of the mansion in front of him.
Not paying a silver of attention to the guards, even as he heard and saw them move to aim their guns directly at him, their hands shaking.
Henry, who stood right beside him, looked domineering, but only Cain could tell that deep in his eyes, he would like nothing more than for them to leave.
Javi’s guards were more than five times the number of people Cain had brought with him, and even if they were to transform, it still wouldn’t be enough.
"Let’s go!" Cain finally opened his mouth to speak, turning around at the same time to leave, not missing the way Henry suddenly snapped to attention and bowed, moving to follow him even before he was done speaking.
They had just gotten into the car, with Henry starting the engine even as the other bodyguards got into the other cars when Henry spoke.
"Lord Cain, when will we return, and how many more men should we bring?" Henry asked with a downcast heart he didn’t care to show. The last thing he wanted was to outright fight the Reds, but as long as Cain ordered it, there was no way he could go against his command.
Which was why he was extremely surprised when, instead of hearing a set time when he would have to arrange to go and fight, he heard Cain open his mouth and let out a soft chuckle instead.
"What are you talking about, Henry? We have a peace agreement in place! I can’t openly attack any Lord, especially the Reds, without the council’s agreement!" Cain informed him, which only made a confused expression appear on Henry’s face as he tried hard to focus on driving back to the airstrip where they would take a plane to return.
’Then why the hell did we go there? To threaten him?’ he thought to himself, even though he knew that such a thing didn’t seem like something Cain would waste his time doing.
But instead of asking, he kept quiet and focused on driving, especially when he realized that Cain was back to vigorously massaging his head, almost like something terribly annoying was bothering him.
They had just gotten to the plane and boarded it when Cain ordered that they head straight to Vazer’s district instead.
Again, Henry was extremely confused, but he simply nodded his head and gave directions to the pilot, like he was supposed to, without asking more questions, which Cain might find distasteful.
It was already more than enough that Cain had bothered to answer some of them.
It took about an hour, and like he was supposed to, Henry took control of everything, including driving to Vazer’s mansion.
Again, after Cain’s answer to his question, he didn’t have to wonder if they were going there to openly fight, since Vazer was also a Vampire Lord.
’Maybe we’re going back for a covert operation!’ he thought to himself, even as he wondered if he should ask again if they needed more men, only to decide not to.
If more men were needed, then Cain would know best and would have already informed him.
’I just want to survive one more day!’ Henry thought to himself, aware that in the service of their Lord, right-hand men like him never lasted long and were the first to die.
He thought to himself as he recalled his predecessor, who he heard had died in a car bomb.
’A cruel but quick way to go!’ Henry thought to himself, about to park the car at Vazer’s gate, only to be surprised when he was ushered in, his eyes widening even as he went ahead and drove in.
’...Much better than being sprayed down with silver bullets.’ Something Reds enjoyed doing, even though such weapons had been banned.
Still, he kept quiet, especially when Cain seemed even more relaxed than when they had headed to Javi’s district.
’Look on the bright side, Henry!’ he continued to mumble to himself, even as he drove carefully, trying hard not to stare at the number of guards that lined up the driveway with weapons in hand.
Eyes fierce, just like a few hours ago when they had been there.
’...Cain is strong. If he transforms into his beast, you can simply dash forward and ask to be crushed!’
’A terrible but rather quick way to die!’ he thought to himself, even as he went ahead to park the car, getting out and moving to the other side of the car, in the owner’s seat, to open the door for Cain, who confidently stepped out.
Henry was back to being an epitome of confidence and pride as he stared down at the vampires around them while signaling to the bodyguards to surround and protect Cain.
Completely discarding the fact that he was the least person among all of them who actually needed to be protected.
Cain stepped forward, and Henry followed, the confusion in his eyes increasing the closer they got to the entrance without being stopped.
Wondering what the tell could have changed in the last few hours since Cain met with Vazer and had exchanged massive words.
He hadn’t paid too much attention, but having enough background information, it was clear that the both of them had a falling out.
Still, Henry was still thinking Cain was about to head in when he saw the door of the entrance suddenly pushed open to reveal Vazer.
Henry’s eyes constricted slightly in shock and horror by the thick smell of blood that clung to him and the stains that he could make out even in the darkness of the morning with only a few hours until dawn.
Henry, knowing better than to show any colorful expression, instantly reverted his face back to stone.
Fixing his gaze instead on the person that walked out right beside him, a familiar face with brown hair and brown eyes.
’Violet.’ Lord Cain’s lover, whose face instantly lit up the second she stepped out, clearly surprised to see Cain again.
Even more surprised when Cain opened his arms and she instantly darted forward into his outstretched arms, to Henry’s shock, as he watched Vazer not so much as try to stop her.
"We’re even?" Cain opened his mouth to speak, even as he picked Violet off the ground as easily and carefully as if he were picking up a flower, even as she clung desperately to him.
