My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 60: A Different Morning
Raelynn stirred awake as the morning sunlight slipping through the curtains. She squinted at her surroundings, adjusting slowly to the faint light around her. Slowly, she became aware of the dull ache in her back as she attempted to turn onto her side. She flinched a little, moving cautiously until she found a more comfortable spot.
When she opened her eyes fully, she found herself looking at a surprising sight. Elion was there, seated in the chair by the bed, his arms crossed over his chest, his head tilted slightly to one side as if he had fallen asleep in that position.
Raelynn's breath caught for a moment.
Did he really stay here all night? she wondered. She vaguely remembered him assuring her last night that he would be there if she needed him, but she had fallen asleep so quickly that she thought maybe it had been a dream. Yet here he was, just as he promised. The thought made her heart skip slightly, a feeling she wasn't sure how to place.
Her heart raced slightly as her eyes lingered on him. He looked peaceful, more so than she'd ever seen him before. He usually carried himself with such control and focus, like he was always one step ahead of everyone else. With his relaxed features and those dark lashes brushing his cheeks, he looked almost innocent—if that was even possible for someone like him.

Raelynn couldn't stop herself. She shifted into a sitting position, her back protesting slightly, but the discomfort was drowned out by her curiosity. She found herself studying the subtle details of his face: the curve of his brows, the sharp bridge of his nose, and the strength in his jawline. Her eyes lingered on his lips for a moment longer than she'd like to admit, noting how they looked softer now, less severe without the faint smirk or frown he usually wore.
She leaned forward unconsciously, drawn closer as if by some unseen force. Everything else seemed to blur, she barely noticed the quiet rustle of the curtains or the distant birds. She shifted just a little, so quietly it was easy to miss,
but they carried her closer and closer until—
"Careful, Raelynn," his deep voice snapped her out of her daze.
She yelped softly as she realized she was on the verge of falling off the bed, but before she could even react, a pair of strong hands caught her shoulders, steadying her. Her heart leapt in her chest, both from the near fall and from how close Elion, who was now wide awake and clearly entertained by her.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Raelynn froze, her cheeks burning as she realized how close they were. His hands lingered on her shoulders for a moment longer before he gently guided her back onto the bed. She avoided his gaze, trying to think of an excuse, but her mind was blank.
"I wasn't…" she began, but the words faltered. She glanced at him, and the teasing look in his eyes, paired with that arched brow, told her he was expecting a response.
"You weren't what?" he pressed.
"I wasn't doing anything wrong," she muttered defensively, crossing her arms over her chest. "I was just looking."
Elion leaned back slightly, his smirk widening. "Looking, huh? And what exactly were you looking at?"
Raelynn's blush deepened. "Nothing! I wasn't… I mean, I have eyes. Am I not allowed to use them?"
He let out a quiet laugh, the warmth in it making her chest tighten. "So, you're admitting you were staring at me?"
Realizing her mistake, Raelynn's eyes widened, and she quickly covered her mouth with her hands. She turned her head away, her embarrassment reaching new heights. "That's not what I meant!" she exclaimed, her voice muffled by her hands.
Elion inched closer, but before she could react, she felt his fingers gently take hold of her chin, guiding her to face him again. Her hands fell away from her mouth as her eyes met his, now only inches away. The way he looked at her was serious yet teasing, enough to make her heart skip a beat.
"I never said I hated it."
Raelynn's heartbeat quickened as their gaze held. For a moment, it felt like time had stopped, the world narrowing down to just the two of them. But then—
The door to the room burst open, breaking the spell. Raelynn and Elion both turned sharply, their faces flushed as they quickly pulled away from each other. Standing in the doorway was Sloane, grinning ear to ear, while Hera followed, rolling in a trolley full of food.
"Good morning!" Sloane announced brightly. "I brought…" She trailed off as her eyes darted between Elion and Raelynn, her smile fading into a look of realization. "Oh. Ohhhh."
Raelynn's cheeks turned crimson, and Elion's expression darkened into a glare. Sloane, however, seemed unfazed by the tension in the room. If anything, she looked even more amused.
"Oh my God," Sloane said dramatically, raising a hand to her mouth. "Did I just interrupt… whatever that was?" She gestured vaguely between them, her eyes wide with mock horror.
"Sloane," Elion warned her.
But Sloane ignored him completely. "I'm so sorry," she said, though her grin betrayed her lack of sincerity. "I didn't know you two were having such a moment. If I had, I would've knocked. Or maybe brought popcorn."
Raelynn buried her face in her hands, wishing she could disappear. "We weren't… It wasn't…" she stammered, her words muffled by her hands.
Sloane's grin widened. "Don't worry, I'll just… leave you two to it." She turned to Hera, who was now trying (and failing) to hold back her laughter. "Let's go, Hera. Clearly, we're not needed here."
"Sloane," Elion repeated, his glare cutting through the air.
But Sloane just waved him off. "Relax, boss. I'm just saying, maybe next time you could lock the door. You know, if you're going to…" She paused, giving them both a pointed look. "Whatever it is you were doing."
With that, Sloane made a quick exit, taking the trolley with her while Hera trailed behind, still chuckling. Raelynn peeked out from between her fingers, her face still bright red, and caught Elion's eye. They stared at each other for a moment before quickly looking away, both of them too flustered to speak.
