Chapter 45: Arriving In Sparia

(Arata)

Sparia was an ever-green kingdom known for its roses and rich heritage. It exported its unique roses all over the world, which came in all colours and sizes.

I wondered if that was the reason why Karsten had a rose on his company’s logo because, certainly, that man was as far away from roses as Pluto was from Earth.

We descended the jet and a black limousine was waiting for us. The sun was spreading its last rays on the horizon as Olphi held the door open for me and I climbed inside the spacious car.

Karsten joined me on the other side and the car began to move like a silent panther.

"We are heading to the hotel where I have made reservations. You can freshen up and change and then we will go downstairs to have dinner with my family."

I soaked up all the information Karsten provided.

"My mother Camilla is conservative in her approach. Just ignore if she throws a jibe. My grandma Martina is more understanding but has a sharp tongue; my step-sister is too friendly, while my step-brother is a bit snobbish. Rest, you must have read in the notes I provided, so just remember," he revealed the inner dynamics of his family, his body stiffening visibly.

"I did."

He then turned to face me, the seriousness etched into his sharpened features and I knew something grave was coming.

"Under no circumstances should you mention my father. Just remember, he doesn’t exist." Bitterness and fury simmered in his inky dark eyes. I had figured his father was absent from the picture, but it seemed like he loathed the man, and so did his entire family.

I wondered what he did? Abandon them at an early age? But then, how did the step-siblings get thrown into the mixture? ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

I wasn’t going to pry into their private life, though. I was here to play my part as his girlfriend and that was all I was going to do.

"I won’t," I assured him, hoping his demeanour would relax but he remained tense.

I went on to stare outside from the tinted glass. The place had a quaint vibrancy to it which I had seen most places lacking. Modernity shook hands with village-like charm. The buildings had a rustic feeling with flowering vines creeping up on them or their façades overflowing with rose pots hanging on stands.

Some streets had cobblestone pavements where the laughter of children rang out as they chased each other on bikes and played with hula hoops.

"It’s beautiful," I whispered in awe, my eyes trying to take in all the magic this place breathed.

"It is." Hints of pride were hard to miss in his voice.

We soon arrived at the hotel he had booked. The car halted outside the three-storey cottage-styled hotel and I stepped out.

It had a homely feeling to it with its blue and gold exterior. Flowering murals were painted on it in sophisticated patterns. The lawns on both sides had the greenest grass I had seen with fountains churning out clean water.

The soft golden hue from the light scones highlighted everything.

I ogled at it with my mouth hanging open when I felt Karsten’s presence by my side.

"You are free to roam here, it’s mine." He owned the hotel, so it made sense why he brought me here and didn’t take me to his mom’s place.

I turned to watch him, and he appeared like a movie star standing beside me, gazing at his prized possession. His sleeves were slightly rolled up revealing his thick arms with bluish veins running their length like aimless rivers.

"It’s magnificent. I should probably change first." I cast a glance at my apparel.

"Olphi will take you to your room. My family will be here near eight. So I will come to fetch you at quarter to eight. We will make an entrance together." I nodded my understanding and followed Olphi on the cobblestone path with rose bushes lined along it.

We arrived at the room with a dull green-painted door. Using the key, Olphi opened it for me while a bell boy brought my luggage.

Ensuring that I had everything and was comfortable, Olphi said in all seriousness.

"Ma’am, if you need anything else, let me know." He was as emotionless as his boss but I knew all bodyguards were like that.

"Thank you! Olphi, I will."

Closing the door, I took in the feeling of the room. Unlike the usual hotels, this one was way different. The bed didn’t have plain white sheets. Instead, they were silken with colourful flowers. The same went for walls, which had tiny floral patterns painted on their entire length.

The room was equipped with every necessity, so without wasting any time, I got myself busy with becoming presentable to his family.

For the wig, I chose an elegant bun-styled one. The makeup I kept light and natural, but the lipstick was dark plum. Bold shades of lipstick were my favourite.

Finally, I adjusted the rose necklace, it sat snugly against my skin, and I loved the dainty thing.

Glancing at the pendulum clock I felt super proud as I got ready with two minutes to spare. Picking up my mom’s gold earrings, which she had gifted me on my 20th birthday, I put them on as well.

I just turned away from the mirror and put on my white heels when the door knocked.

It must be Karsten, the man had an obsession with time.

With my heels clicking on the floor I made my way to the door and threw it open.

Smoky eyes so subtle with sparkles of amazement found me and I caught a hint of surprise flash past his face.

Ever so slowly, his heated gaze travelled down my body and he wasn’t even subtle about it, ensuring I knew he was checking me out.

My cheeks flamed, and my insides churned with every dip his gaze took. He drank me up like his favourite wine.

I had never been more thankful for not having cleavage because, at the end of the day, he was still my boss, and this would get extremely awkward.

Once he was satisfied with gobbling me up with his eyes, Karsten extended his hand.

"Come, they are here."
