Chapter 20: Saved by mission

In the moment before Violet defeated the boss monster, Erik who had already collapsed after launching his last attack.

'So now, I've died'

Erik now believed that he had actually really died for real, as he felt absolutely nothing. What he was experiencing at that moment seemed to float in nothingness, as if he had been in that state for a long time. He thought it would be impossible to survive in the condition his body was in.

'But, I didn't expect to die so young, and not even be able to know the pleasures of life,' Erik reflected with a small wry smile. He would not be able to enjoy those pleasures anyway, as his new existence was not compatible with creation.

"Well, when to begin my trial to go through my reincarnation cycle and lose all these memories?"

Erik longed for the moment to leave that place. He had no idea how long he had been there, but the monotony was consuming him. There was literally nothing around him.

Nothing at all!

Although the darkness enveloped him completely, he could see with perfect clarity. He did not experience the strange dreamy feeling he had that time in the hospital when he encountered the huge wolf and that mysterious presence. Nor did he feel anything similar to what he had experienced before entering the dungeon, but...

"Where the hell am I?!"

Erik began to move as if he was swimming, scouring the surroundings where 'Nothingness' reigned, just darkness everywhere.

Finding nothing, he started throwing punches in the air, looking for some sort of resistance. However, after a good while of punching, he didn't feel tired at all. Nor did he experience hunger or any other need.

"Could it be that I'll find myself in some corner of the system?"

Erik considered this possibility. If the system could revive him repeatedly, as when he confronted that man, it wasn't entirely impossible that it would send him to this kind of place.

As he hovered in place, a faint light emerged in the distance where he stood.

"So, this is the light at the end of the tunnel," Erik mused.

He headed towards it, noticing it getting closer and closer as he went. As he reached it, he tried to grab it, but at the very instant he did so, an intense luminosity filled his vision.

When he regained consciousness, he found the tear-soaked face of Violet, who was hugging him tightly.

'Why is this woman crying,' Erik thought, confused. He didn't understand why she was hugging him so tightly while sobbing.

'Wait... that means I'm not dead,' Erik said to himself, quickly assimilating this reality. He turned his gaze and found Violet's breasts, which were quite close to his face.

At that moment, as he stared at Violet's breasts...

Erik was overwhelmed by the flood of notifications that appeared in front of him. At that moment, a green aura began to surround his body as his wounds healed and his left arm and organs began to regenerate at an incredible speed.

Violet, who was crying, stood silently, a look of astonishment on her face as she saw how quickly Erik was recovering before her eyes.

'Is it really human?'

Violet was having a hard time believing what she was seeing and hadn't yet realized she had company.

Erik, who was almost as good as new, saw Cristina pointing at Violet's head and, without a second thought, pulled her down.

"Huh?" Violet exclaimed in surprise at Erik's sudden act of pulling her down.

"Why did you pull me...?"

Violet didn't get to finish her sentence when an arrow imbued with magic power passed close to her head and embedded itself forcefully into the wall.

'What was that?' Violet thought, feeling a shiver run down her spine. If it wasn't for Erik, her brain would be embedded in the wall.

"Thank you..."

"Now is not the time for thanks. Get up quickly, or you might die," Erik said, swiftly rising from the floor.

He scanned the surroundings with his eyes to locate his spear. When he identified it, he ran towards it before they started attacking again.

"So, they're back!" exclaimed Erik with a spear in hand, feeling his body fill with power, and he tightened his grip on the weapon.

'That's the strength of a D-rank hunter,' Erik thought, clearly perceiving the immense gap in power that separated the E and D ranks. It was like comparing heaven to earth, too great a difference.

Noticing that they had no intention of speaking, Erik approached Violet again, who was getting up from the ground.

"How did you recover so quickly?"

"Now is not the time to ask questions. How much magical power do you currently have left?"

"Right now, my reserves are almost completely depleted. I can only cast one spell, and I'm out of magic power."

"Hmm..."

Erik took a moment to think about what to do, as he felt he could finish them off, but he didn't want to get carried away with that feeling. He wanted to be sure to kill them.

'For now, the problem is that archer....'

"Violet, start your spell and when it prompts you, attack that archer. At the moment, she's the most annoying one to deal with," Erik said after thinking for a few seconds.

Violet assisted and began chanting her spell using the last reserves of magical power she currently had left. David and the others, seeing this, also prepared for combat. Christina launched an arrow toward Violet, but...

Clang!

The sound of metal echoed in place as arrow and spear met. Erik positioned himself as if to launch a javelin, took a deep breath, and began to exert force on his right arm. Every muscle in his arm tensed and veins began to appear along his forearm.

Erik looked at Violet and signaled for her to attack. Violet assisted and shouted, "[Ice bullets]."

The ice shards headed straight for Christina. Realizing her intentions, David quickly stepped in front of Cristina, blocking Violet's attack. However, he was not prepared for what was to come next.

Erik stomped with all his might and threw the spear towards where David was standing, who was protecting Cristina.

Swoosh!

The spear shot out at an astonishing speed. Richard, seeing where the attack was going, shouted with a grim expression:

"MOVE ASIDE!"

But it was too late. I couldn't react to the speed of the spear, which ripped through David and Christina's bodies, leaving the lower part of their bodies. The spear was deeply stuck in the cave wall with the bodies of the two of them painting the wall with their blood and organs, causing a small tremor.

Richard, seeing this, fell to his knees with a completely dark expression and a lifeless look on his face. All his determination was gone, and he stared at the floor.

"How much force did you use in that attack?" asked Violet, looking at the lifeless bodies of David and Christina.

"All of it," Erik answered honestly, using all his physical strength in that throw. He didn't hold back at all in that attack.

"But that's not the attack of..." Violet couldn't finish speaking as her legs went limp, but Erik quickly helped her, keeping her from falling to the ground.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

They started walking to where Richard was standing, who was looking down at the ground. He was in front of Richard, looking at him coolly when Violet asked:

"What do we do with him?"

"Kill him," Erik answered without hesitation, as he pulled out the spear that was stuck in the wall.

Richard shuddered as he heard the answer and at that moment many ways to get out of this situation with his life ran through his head. He remembered something important...

"Wait, you can't kill me."

"Why can't we kill you?" asked Erik, his eyes glittering with coldness.

"Why won't my father leave you alive?" muttered Richard, with a nervous smile.

"Your father? And who is he?" asked Erik.

"My father is the leader of the Luminis Guild," Richard replied.

"Luminis guild?" said Erik, visibly confused.

"You don't know what the Luminis guild is?" interjected Violet.

Erik shook his head. Actually, he had no idea. The only thing he knew about the big guilds that controlled practically the whole country: were the Sons of the Sphinx, The Phoenix Guild, Golden Shadows, and Eternal Dawn. He wasn't interested in much else at the time, as he wasn't a hunter and his main concern was survival.

"The Luminis Guild. It's a new guild that has experienced rapid growth, largely thanks to its president, Alexander, who is also rumored to be an A-ranked hunter. However, there is hardly any information available about him," Violet explained and then asked:

"Is that man your father?"

Richard moved quickly, nervous but secretly amused. Now that they knew who his father was, surely they wouldn't hurt him by knowing his background.

"Is he really your father?"

"Yes, he's my father. So please let me go and nothing will happen to you," Richard said with a confident smile.

Erik looked at Richard, who was desperate to survive and was using his father's name to avoid being hurt. He looked at him neutrally.

"If what he says is true, then what do we do with him?" asked Violet.

"We just need to eliminate him. Whether he's alive or dead, he'll cause trouble. It's better to deal with him now," said Erik, preparing to end Richard's life.

"Wait!...it's not true that my father is who they say!"

Richard began to scream, as yellow liquid leaked from his crotch. Erik raised the spear to deliver the final blow.

"WAIT, THEY DIDN'T WANT TO DIE YET..."

"JUST WAIT FOR MY FATHER TO ARRIVE, HE WON'T LEAVE YOU..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Erik separated his head from his body, while looking at him neutrally.

And Richard's body fell lifelessly to the ground.
