Chapter 38: Chapter 38 Four Years Ago, I Came Here (2)

Inside the car, silence engulfed them once again.

Asher Land’s slender fingers tapped continuously on the steering wheel. Sophie Smith knew his craving for a smoke had resurfaced.

He got out of the car, leaned against it, and lit a cigarette. The swirling smoke made his features somewhat indistinct.

Sophie could naturally sense the shift in Asher Land’s mood. Usually, he seemed unshakeable, yet now there was an elusive sadness in his eyes. Sophie didn’t know why he felt this way.

"Are you tired? How about we don’t return to Eastern City tonight?" Sophie hesitantly asked after getting out of the car.

It was already very late, and it was apparent that Asher Land was somewhat exhausted. He was very busy with work and had driven for three hours to get there. His mental state couldn’t be at its best now.

He nodded, which amounted to an agreement.

Sophie found a small hotel nearby. She wasn’t sure if Asher Land would stay because she knew he was always particular.

"Well, why don’t we make do with this? It’s so late; we shouldn’t wander around." She thought having a hotel to stay in was good enough. Usually, she might spend the night at a station.

Strangely, the picky Asher Land actually agreed, and Sophie felt a sense of relief.

When booking the room, although she tried hard to book two separate rooms, Asher Land firmly refused.

"As my woman, shouldn’t you consider helping me save on household expenses?" he said, feigning innocence.

What a lousy excuse!

Sophie restrained herself from losing her temper. When did the free-spending Young Master Land start caring about saving a few bucks?

Sophie sat gloomily in the room, and shamelessly, Asher Land sat down beside her.

"Don’t you think this bed is too small?" Sophie complained with dissatisfaction.

Although it was a double room, with Asher Land being so tall and strong, sleeping together felt a bit cramped.

"Then get closer to me."

"You..." She was rendered speechless.

Asher Land grinned triumphantly, took off his heavy suit jacket, and sprawled out on the bed.

"Can’t you stop being so domineering? Where am I supposed to sleep then?"

Asher Land pointed to his strong arm, "You can use my arm as a pillow, how about that?"

Sophie ignored him, just sitting at the head of the bed. Unexpectedly, Asher Land suddenly grabbed her wrist, making her topple onto him without any defense.

Sophie struggled silently for a moment, but eventually gave up resisting.

This man, besides being exceptionally wealthy, was extraordinarily strong too.

He merely held her slim body quietly, without any further movement. Sophie turned her head slightly, realizing he had already fallen asleep.

In sleep, he seemed harmless, with his handsome contours and exquisite features, truly beautiful.

But, ...

She shook her head, signaling herself to stay clear-minded. She couldn’t be easily deceived; she had to constantly remind herself that it was him who destroyed her.

She gently removed the arm encircling his waist, walked barefoot to the window, and folded her fragile body in a hug.

She gazed into the distance. The Golden Era Building stood proudly in the heart of this beautiful and serene county. That resplendent tower was the pride of Southern County’s people, yet it was also an everlasting scar on her heart.

He said, four years ago, he had been here.

Turns out, he still vividly remembered.

But he certainly didn’t remember his cruelty to her four years ago.
