Chapter 228: Deal

A few days had passed since the first step towards the Kalaharis and a formidable game of chess was playing out in the background with a succession of death, evolution, manipulation and deception.

In the land of the giants, Mercy had reached the realm of the strongests and discovered her brand new power, Lilith was gradually reaching the level of monstrosity she had always dreamed of and the fusion Dora while keeping them under control also acted in the shadows to influence battles and avoid a confrontation between the three of them, until Lilith ascends.

Meanwhile, Gamma and Omega continued their destructive work and accumulated countless powers non-stop.

Finally, on the other side of the country, in a place inaccessible to any outsider, Freya’s group gathered in Cleopatra’s Hall to announce their deliberation.

The Queen, praying on her knees in front of the statue, had her back turned to them, and only Isis was present to assist her.

She asked the group to remain silent until she gave them the signal to speak, and once the Queen nodded, she turned to Freya.

"That’s it, guests, you can now give your answer. The Queen is ready to help you with the Twilight of the Gods, but only if you accept her condition. What is your answer?"

Freya clenched her fists tightly and exchanged a look with her comrades before facing Isis.

"We deeply thank the Queen for her offering. I must say personally that I am humbled to see such a wonderful person with enough consideration to listen to us and even give us a chance. This is the greatest achievement I have ever achieved so far."

From behind, no one could notice Cleopatra’s growing smile. She raised her head and opened her soft lips.

"But?"

Freya bit her lip.

"But... we cannot abandon our friend, even for the good of the world"

"Freya, please!"

Liliana stepped forward, but Marie grabbed her wrist firmly. She looked desperately at the faces of her comrades, all of them looking firmly in agreement with Freya.

She shook her head in disbelief, in all the time they had to wait she came to accept her fate as a sacrifice but everyone else had a different plan.

Cleopatra chuckled, stood up and finally showed them her face.

"Even if the whole world depends on it? You would give up everything you’ve worked for to get here, just to save one person?"

Liliana looked desperately at her friends, with the same result. But someone else stepped forward.

"Humans value the lives of their fellows more than you and your people could ever understand, Envy." Eryl spat her venom.

"Eryl!" Freya gave her a death glare.

Cleopatra’s sweet laughter filled the space.

"Oh, don’t worry, I can understand that. We are all different but every creature shares the same fear..." Her emerald eyes stared at the servant. "The death."

Isis walked through the group and stood next to her queen.

The group stood guard against what appeared to be a hidden threat, but the Queen displayed strange behavior, struggling to maintain her composure.

"Ah... such noble comrades... I really feel envious... but I feel even more envious of those sublime eyes... are you sure you don’t want..."

"My Queen, I believe we should opt for the other thing."

Cleopatra coughed lightly, her face twitching to appear as calm as possible. As the scene contrasted more and more with the first impression she gave them, the group became more and more upset.

Cleopatra took a breath and, after regaining a placid face, began to speak.

"Dear travelers, we understand your situation, and therefore find it regrettable that our negotiation ended in failure. This should then end our brief alliance and my people should return you to shore."

"What? No! Not that! Guys!" Liliana stressed. Eryl raised her hand in front of her face to encourage her to calm down.

"Hold on, look at her eyes."

Liliana tried to calm herself and looked at Cleopatra’s face and noticed the unsettling change.

The queen’s lips danced, her hand gestures were more detailed and broader. She didn’t speak, it was an act.

"But, as a victim of the horror of this country, I cannot let down those who seek our support, and that is why I have decided to grant you another chance to negotiate."

Liliana tried to smile, but the tension around her made her realize something was wrong. With a hand on her chest, Cleopatra spoke.

"A few days ago, we sent some of our girls to look for the rest of your comrades, but none of them have returned since. I personally looked into this matter and discovered an interesting situation. It seems that someone with great power is unleashed in the cliffs near the savannah."

She joins her hands as if in prayer, her gaze turned towards the sky.

"As Queen, I wish to rush there and retrieve my daughters as soon as possible...but the moment I leave this place, the dimension...this dimension, our kingdom is in, will disappear... and we will be exposed to monsters."

Everyone’s face fell with more disappointment than before. There was no need for an explanation.

"Stop playing, Envy, you want us to go find our comrades ourselves, right?" Eryl groaned.

The Queen blinked several times before placing a hand on her chest with a mixture of surprise and mockery on her face.

"Oh? Absolutely not, my dear. It’s not a lie, someone is committing genocide outside, and I’m afraid of crossing their path... or it should be a perfect means of negotiation for you, the heroes who want to save the world."

Each member looked into each other’s eyes with doubt, they came to understand the abnormal mentality of the Queen but between the loss of her support and the lack of information on the behavior of their friends, their lack of options didn’t really leave them a choice.

Freya gave a final nod to her group and faced the Queen whose eyes narrowed.

"If we go, will you help us end the twilight of the Gods? Even if we can’t find the people you sent?"

The queen’s smile widened and her lips whispered.

"I promise you... if you go, it will settle the end of this whole thing... Oh, and don’t worry, you will find them, don’t doubt it... we can’t die that easily, for we are envious of a long life."
