Perfect Avatar-Chapter 270: Kick off
Chapter 270: Kick off
Several vehicles crossed the road towards Paradea. There were a few familiar faces among the passengers, including Agiel and Agharita.
They had been on board for many hours now, and there was still about a day or two of travel left, but then a noticeable light appeared in the distance.
"... Hm? Hey, what’s... Shit!!!"
In an instant, the light took the form of a large green wolf and rushed towards them.
"A DISASTER!"
The vehicles turned, several knights jumped out, drawing their weapons. The wolf’s speed decreased until the beast stopped completely.
"Wait, calm down! It’s us!"
A voice came from the monster, or rather from above. The knights were stunned, but someone jumped from above and landed in front of Agharita.
"We couldn’t wait any longer, so we decided to meet you halfway, I hope you understand."
Long azure hair, blue eyes, and radiant with a divine aura, Liliana bowed her head before her mentor.
"Uh...? Wha... Li... Liliana?!"
She dropped to one knee to get a better look at her face, grabbing her cheeks, and her hair, confused.
Many impacts hit the surrounding ground, the others having jumped in turn.
They were all there, barely recognizable after their transformation.
Agiel got out of his car, staring with wide eyes.
Freya’s face changed when she saw him, she flicked her hair and walked towards him.
"Now that we’re here, let’s not wait. I want to know exactly what happened."
"... Y... Yes, of course... I see that this expedition was more fruitful than anticipated."
He looked at each one of them, recovering the control of his eyes.
"So, one way to confront the Players... you have all become real pseudo-avatars. I didn’t expect to see one so soon, let alone 4."
"Enough wasting time, what’s the situation?"
The knights were taken aback by Freya’s sudden aggressiveness, Agharita risked walking towards her.
"Wait, don’t you think you owe us an explanation first? What happened to you back there? How did you get like this?"
"We got these powers from every Sin Avatar and none of them are going to help us now. But this power can defeat a Player, nothing else matters."
She walked towards a car, Agharita tried to grab her arm but Liliana quickly stopped her.
The two exchanged a look, then the sound of the car door closing caught Agharita’s attention.
"Damn...what kind of...why is she always like that?"
"...I guess...maybe she doesn’t really hold you in her heart? Especially after..."
Liliana shook her head sharply, Agiel glanced at her, then looked at the others.
Of this group, only Hope seemed in a normal mood.
"Should we go to Paradea to pick up the rest of the team?"
Freya’s group mood was nearly paralyzed by his inquiry. Each member glanced at one another, silently praying for a brave soul to step forward and articulate the fear that gripped them all.
"Damn, there’s no one else, everyone is dead. Wrath, Lust and Envy too, now let’s go."
Mercy groaned as she joined Freya in the car. The knights were frozen in place, Agharita looked at her in disbelief, then at Hope, Cid, Iris, and Lilith.
Liliana pulled her arm insistently.
"We’ll talk about everything along the way, but it would be better to tell them what happened first, please..."
Agharita had great difficulty standing, but one by one they got into a car, Iris, Freya, and Mercy with Agharita and Agiel, Cid, Hope, Lilith and Liliana in another car.
"First, as I said this morning, Anesidora and the Queen fought together. The details are a little confusing, but Anesidora betrayed us and attacked several cities simultaneously. After that, he fought the Queen all around the kingdom. The entire central and western region is in ruins and we cannot put a number on the number of casualties. We have also confirmed the death of Prince Moonra."
Freya flinched, her eyes trembling.
"Moonra...is dead?"
"Yes, we cannot confirm the circumstances, but he was found in the city by rioters. Everything suggests that it was the citizens who murdered him."
The 3 girls exchanged a look.
"So...it wasn’t Dora?"
Agiel raised an eyebrow.
"Not this time. The Prince wasn’t the strongest emissary, but he wasn’t weak either. I suppose he was struck by surprise by another emissary, but given that all the citizens in the area were killed, it would be impossible to find the culprit."
"And even if it wasn’t him, Anesidora ki-"
Freya abruptly halted Agharita with a menacing stare. The ancient holy knight bowed her head, clenching her jaw.
"What about the dean?"
"We cannot currently confirm Candace’s situation. Anesidora held her captive and after his disappearance, she never resurfaced. We do not know her location, let alone if she is alive."
Freya’s eyes darkened, she bit her lip, her hands gripping her knees.
"What... the hell is happening? I won’t accept this... I can’t accept losing her too... not again... Wait, what about the Queen? Dora said that she was alive."
Agiel stood still for a moment, then his jaw slowly dropped.
"...I really need a summary of what happened in Kalaharis. Queen Gloria also survived the fight, she went on a rampage for hours after Anesidora disappeared, but she has calmed down and is back at her mansion in the south... We confirmed that she was with the princess and her maids, but... we noticed something strange..."
He leaned forward as if to convey a secret message.
"The Queen is no longer as hostile as before, I would even say that she is completely harmless. A few days after their fight, we noticed an increase in energy around the atmosphere, the same as in the Rifts. We sent an expedition team and they gave us information about a change in the Rift that has expanded to cover several regions at once, and something, clearly alive, is right there. We decided to ask the Queen for help."
The girls gave him a look of anger or incomprehension, it wasn’t hard to understand their reaction.
"I know it sounded stupid, but we had no other choice. But what’s really interesting is what happened when we reached her. The Queen didn’t try to kill us, she instead shouted at everyone to get away. I went there personally, and I received the same treatment, but... I can say with certainty that what I saw in her eyes was not anger... but fear."
His eyes narrowed, Freya looked intently at her friends, then looked back at Agiel.
"The Queen is afraid?"
"Yes, afraid, but not because of the Rift. Look, I don’t have the knowledge of the world, but I’ve lived long enough to read between the lines. Anesidora had the upper hand in this battle, but he still chose to leave. If his goal was to kill the Queen, then I doubt he would leave while in a position of power. He is like a poisonous snake that lets its prey run after having inflicted a deadly bite, and sooner or later, he will come to finish her off. When I went to see the Queen, I noticed something, something that should not exist on the Avatar of Glutonny."
His lips moved and the girls’ eyes widened. They all remained silent for a few seconds, a strange anxiety filling the air.
Freya glanced briefly at Mercy who shook her head uncertainly.
"...Are you sure about that?"
"Yes, she tried to hide it when she realized I saw it, and even then she didn’t try to shut me up."
Freya put her hand to her chin.
"...If that’s really the case...then...We need to go to her immediately."
The cars continued on their way all day, while Midgard and Dora held hands face to face.
Midgard closed her eyes, a green aura emerging from her body.
"I’m warning you, you’re not ready to see all the crazy things that have happened."
"...Worse than Mercy?"
In the back, Peters shook his head sharply.
"For fukin’ sake, what happened to Mercy???"
Elizbeth patted him on the back, and then the energy of Midgard covered Dora, growing into a large orb that engulfed the two.
A jet of aura rose into the air, sweeping the place with raging winds. Dora’s eyes turned a deep white, his veins glowed green.
An infinity of images crossed his mind, the ruined city, Gloria, Moonra’s head, the events of Kalaharis, Rhea, Eva, and even the thoughts of each Persona, their knowledge, and their projects. freēwēbnovel.com
At times, he witnessed a new type of memory, something unfamiliar and yet familiar. A place with some children, a sandcastle, and two shadows over what appeared to be a crying child.
The energy jet diminished, then disappeared completely, Midgard held its breath for a moment, then observed Dora’s reaction.
The boy showed a completely different face, frowning, sweat beading on his forehead.
A green spark shone in his eyes, he let go of Midgard’s hands, stepping back for a moment.
"Dora?"
The girl’s voice brought him back to reality, he looked at her with trembling eyes, then placed a hand on his forehead.
He put one knee on the ground, Elizabeth rushed towards him in all haste, shaking him by the shoulders.
"Hey, are you okay? What’s going on? Is it that bad???"
Midgard reached him in turn, helping him not to fall, however, Dora signaled to let them know that he was okay.
He looked at Midgard, his eyes filled with disturbing distress.
"Midgard... can we take control of my body... now?"
Midgard grimaced slightly.
"Now that’s impossible. He has full control of the body, but now that you’re back, you can fight to get it back, just not immediately."
"... Midgard... He’s coming. They’re gonna die."
