Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 602 - 601: Doubts Resolved
Chapter 602 - 601: Doubts Resolved
As expected, as they got closer, the sounds of an intense battle began to reach them.
Cain's expression changed. Had Regi and Ren already begun their plan, right after Gengar left?
Hesitating slightly, Cain summoned Slowking.
With Slowking's psychic barrier concealing their presence, the chances of being discovered decreased considerably.
Aurelia watched as Cain deftly executed this series of moves, her mouth agape in astonishment.
"What are you standing there for? If you want to take something, you'll have to take risks. Do you have a Psychic-type Pokémon? If you do, join in. If not, stay here or leave already," Cain snapped irritably, seeing Aurelia lost in thought.
He remembered clearly that Aurelia owned a Jynx, although he wasn't sure of its current level.
If Jynx's power wasn't up to par, Cain had no intention of bringing her along. He didn't want to deal with a liability, especially since the situation could become very dangerous, and he wouldn't be able to look out for her.
Cain's words snapped Aurelia out of her reverie. Quickly, she pulled out a Pokéball and called forth her Jynx.
When Jynx appeared, her long yellow hair swayed gently. She wore a striking red dress, and her thick, prominent lips pursed coquettishly.
Seeing Aurelia, Jynx smiled with satisfaction.
"Jynx, create a psychic barrier like Slowking's," Aurelia ordered after calming her down a bit.
Jynx glanced at Slowking, and in an instant, a spark appeared in her eyes. That spark quickly turned into what seemed to be... admiration? fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Slowking, standing beside Cain, immediately sensed Jynx's gaze and trembled; he felt as if a dangerous beast was eyeing him.
Jynx, forgetting her trainer's instructions, lifted her red dress and prepared to run toward Slowking.
Slowking, frightened, instinctively took a step back.
Fortunately, Aurelia stopped Jynx in time.
"Jynx! Focus on what we're doing! This is important!" Aurelia shouted desperately, trying to bring Jynx back to reality.
Only then did Jynx seem to snap out of it, putting her feelings aside. However, she couldn't help but cast furtive glances at Slowking now and then.
Then, mimicking Slowking's movements, she managed to create a similar psychic barrier.
Aurelia apologized to Cain, "I'm so sorry. Jynx... well, she likes Slowking. She likes him a lot, but she can be a bit... overenthusiastic."
Cain had witnessed the entire scene and couldn't help but purse his lips. He nodded silently.
Jynx was, indeed, very passionate. Slowking had been so scared that he had moved to the other side of Cain, as far away from Jynx as possible.
But all this was just a minor episode. What mattered was the battle unfolding ahead.
Cain quickly assessed Jynx's power level and was satisfied: she was at the advanced level. With great talent and advanced psychic abilities, it was no surprise she had learned to create a psychic barrier so quickly.
As for Jynx's infatuation with Slowking, Cain thought it was due to the natural attraction between Psychic-types. Well, in this case, it was a one-sided attraction.
Slowking's immense talent had caught Jynx's attention.
"I hope you don't make mistakes. If something goes wrong, I won't be worrying about you. If an unexpected situation arises, we each go our own way," Cain warned Aurelia coldly.
Aurelia knew exactly what Cain meant. There wasn't much trust between them, so her best option was to focus on protecting herself.
Their cooperation was based more on the idea that being together made them feel a bit safer, nothing more.
When they arrived at the hall Gengar had mentioned, the sounds of the fight had reached their peak.
They saw that the ten-plus people who had originally followed Regi and Ren had now joined forces, forming a single group.
They were up against Regi, Ren, and their two subordinates: Glacius and another trainer aligned with Ren.
Four people against around ten, all with advanced-level Pokémon, but the battle was entirely one-sided.
Several Pokémon lay on the floor of the hall, as well as two Team Rocket members, gravely injured—likely the result of a surprise attack from someone close.
They had fallen before they could react, their fates uncertain, alive or dead.
Only seven people were left, desperately resisting the combined attacks of Regi, Ren, and their subordinates.
With the help of the psychic barriers, Cain and Aurelia concealed themselves in a shadowed corner, staying unnoticed.
The reason the battle was so one-sided was due to one Pokémon in particular.
It was a dark purple Pokémon: a Nidoking!
Cain was stunned upon seeing this Pokémon, as it hadn't been mentioned in any of the information he had received.
Only then did he realize that all the data he had obtained had come from Regi.
This made him question how much truth there was to that information.
"Regi! Ren! I never thought you'd end up collaborating! What are you planning with all this? Even with so much power, our presence shouldn't be an obstacle for you!" shouted one of the seven men still resisting.
He had been the first to decide to follow Regi, thinking that even if he couldn't reap the greatest rewards, he would at least gain something.
But he never imagined Regi would lead them here.
They were being exterminated!
Regi said nothing, his typical carefree expression gone, replaced by a cold gaze.
Ren, beside him, laughed maniacally. "Ha, ha, ha, ha! Weakness is your sin! Neither Regi nor I wanted this, but that door cannot be opened! We have no choice but to sacrifice you all!"
Cain wasn't surprised. From the moment he saw the scene in the hall, he understood what Regi and Ren were planning.
Moreover, connecting earlier events—like the destruction of the Great Tree of Life and Nidoking's rampage—Cain figured everything out.
In his past life, when he reached the quasi-elite level, Cain had learned some of Team Rocket's darkest secrets.
He knew exactly the purpose behind what Regi was doing now.
In the Pokémon world, ancient ruins were not uncommon, but most of the time, the keys to access them were lost. So Team Rocket scientists had developed a terrifying method.
After gathering enough blood energy, they could trigger a massive explosion.
Since the technique involved blood, most of the time, the doors to those ruins became contaminated. Then, by combining the accumulated energy with the explosion, there was a high probability the door would be destroyed.
However, this method required a strong catalyst, preferably a wooden object, as it was excellent at storing energy.
That was why Regi had used Nidoking to tear off a part of the Great Tree of Life on Mythical Island. To avoid detection, he used Nidoking's toxins to cause the damage.
And the Nidoking wreaking havoc in the hall was a powerful quasi-elite Pokémon.
That was why the seven men couldn't stand against Nidoking and Regi's other Pokémon.
What Regi truly sought wasn't the people but their Pokémon.
Cain had pieced it all together. All doubts were cleared.
